Just got home from Stamford Bridge as I write this and I can honestly say I have never celebrated a draw like we did last night
Yes the football was rubbish to watch and as always it was a very nervous watch as we defended for 90 minutes but to be fair to Sam and the players they succeeded in their strategy of stopping Chelsea playing.
As always the 3000 West Ham fans sung their hearts out through out the match to the largely mute Chelsea home fans. After just nine minutes West ham started singing “Were drawing away, Were drawing away, How shit must you be, Were drawing away” This continued throughout the game punctuated by abuse for Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard together with the song what to do with a blue flag.
West Ham fans were up to upset the self named special one by chanting “Sit down Mourinho” and “Your not special any-more” being some of the more printable song sung during the night. Jose waved West Ham fans away which just encouraged them to give him more abuse.
Typically Frank Lampard came in for the most abuse as he warmed up in front of the away end. To be fair to him he just chuckled and laughed as the abuse and songs got more personal.
Andy Carroll played for 65 minutes and looked a better defender last night than he did a striker. Our one chance was completely missed kicked by him.
The man of the match for me has to be Adrian though, another great performance to cement his position as West Ham;s number one keeper.
Having two good centre-backs showed how organised we can be when players are fit.
I finally understand what Sam means by respect the point last night. This was one point I will respect because of a gutsy performance from the lads.
As we filed out of the Stamford Bridge into the rain in Fulham Broadway we sung “Nil Nil to the Cockney boys, Nil Nil to the Cockney boys!”
On the train home I got speaking to a plastic Chelsea fan who said and I quote “You didn’t deserve to draw but we didn’t deserve to win!” Answers on a postcard please.
Jose rushed to the press box eight minutes after the match ended fuming to give his interview.
He said “It’s very difficult to play a football match when only one team wants to play. A football match is about two teams playing,”I told Big Sam, they need points. To come here the way they did, is that acceptable? Maybe it is, they need points. This is not Premier League, this is not the best league in the world. This is football from the 19th century. The only thing I can bring more to win was a Black and Decker. A Black and Decker to destroy the wall."
Sam Allardyce laughed Jose’s comments off in his interview: “I couldn’t give a shit, he just can’t take it, he Just can’t take it. I knew he would (say that). It’s brilliant when you get a result against him. I love Chelsea moaning.Good old Jose, moaning again.”
Below are the scenes I recorded on an iPhone at Full time as we celebrated a Nil Nil draw.
NB Iain posted the picture of Sam as the Pope. Iain swears he’s not fickle… Hmmmm.
UPDATE
Jose Mourinho quote on 25th December 2013 after Chelsea parked the bus at the Emirates earning them a goallesss draw against Arsenal.
“I think boring is a team who plays at home and cannot secure a goal. That’s boring. Because you go to your stadium and fill your
stadium in weather like we had last Monday, to see victories.”
