In the last transfer window there was a bit of chatter that West Ham would re-sign Rob Green from QPR. I didn’t think much of it at the time but Green has confirmed it all in an interview with the Daily Mail
Perhaps the main source of frustration is how close he came to leaving last summer and in January. Some have suggested moves to West Ham and Crystal Palace fell through because of his wage demands. Green insists that was not the case, having agreed terms with both clubs and even passing a medical at Upton Park.
The truth is QPR’s owners had an issue with selling to West Ham, while things did not quite fall into place in terms of squad numbers at Palace. ‘The newspaper reports weren’t far off the mark,’ he says. ‘I was pretty close to leaving.’
It’s difficult to understand why we would have wanted him when we are blessed with two excellent goalkeepers in Adrian and Darren Randolph, along with Raphael Spiegel and Sam Howes.
It’s also difficult to understand why Tony Fernandes would have a problem selling to West Ham, a club he supports and wanted to own. Or maybe he has had a big falling out with David Gold and David Sullivan.
All in all, rather odd.
