Today at 5pm is the deadline for Season Ticket Holders to keep their seats.
It will be a watershed moment for many and I know some are still adamant they will not renew while Sam Allardyce stays the manager. I respect them for that but five minutes before writing this article I renewed my season ticket in the Sir Trevor Brooking lower stand. For me, the act of renewing on the actual deadline day was a semi protest but completely pointless in many regards.
The many who don’t renew today will be replaced either by new season ticket holders or their seats sold match by match as life goes on.
David Gold said something poignant over the weekend:
“Managers and owners come and go but the club is there forever, fans are for life, it’s their club”
It is our club and I support them through good times and bad. It has to be a personal choice for each season ticket holder but I will continue to turn up every other Saturday to Boleyn ground to watch my team no matter who is in charge, what the tactics are or how attractive the football is. We have been through difficult times before, why is this any different?
As the namesake of this website the saying goes:
West Ham till I die,
I’m West Ham till I die,
I know I am I’m sure I am,
West Ham till i die…
I am looking forward to next season
Come on you irons!
PS From Iain: I also thought long and hard about renewing but on Saturday I renewed both my tickets for exactly the reasons Sean has outlined above. If I hadn’t, I would have shut down this site. But this site does what it says on the tin. We’re West Ham Till We Die.
