Ten minutes ago the WHUFC website confirmed that Javier Hernandez has signed on the dotted line. He will have the name Chicharito on the back of his shirt, although his shirt number has yet to be confirmed. Hernandez told WHUFC.com
“I am very happy to join West Ham United. For me, the Premier League is the best league in the world and when the opportunity came, I was desperate to sign for this club. It was not a difficult decision. West Ham is an historic club, and very ambitious – this summer you can see with the players signed that they are looking to have a very good season. I’ve had three fantastic years playing in Spain and Germany, but England was really the first big chapter in my career and I am so happy to be back. I am desperate for the season to start and to help the team achieve all their objectives.”
He has a great goals per game ratio of 0.42
Guadalajara 64-26
Man United 103-37
Real Madrid 23-7
Leverkusen 54-28
Mexico 96-48
Total 340 – 143
How can we not be excited about this signing. A goal every 2.37 games is a statistic which most strikers can only dream of. When was the last time we signed a striker with those stats? It doesn’t happen often, does it?
What we need to do is play to his strengths, and let’s hope and pray he doesn’t suffer from the West Ham striker injury curse. Personally, as I ‘ve said before, I’d love to see him play alongside Andy Carroll, but could they play together? I hope we will soon see, although I do wonder whether Mr Carroll might end up back at Newcastle. I do hope not as I really rate him, and he gives the team something no other striker can. But so will Javier Hernandez.
And he’ll make his debut at Old Trafford. Tasty.
UPDATE: Nigel Kahn has penned a song for Chicharito…
Chicharito, you and I know
How the strikers come and they go and were glad they’re leaving
we’ll be singing once again and our pain will end
we will have no time for grieving
Chicharito the fans will cry
with the bubbles ln in the sky and floating above you
you will hear fans sing once more like they did before
Sing a new song, Chicharito
score once more like you did before Sing a new song, Chicharito
Can you imagine 57,000 of us singing that?!
