What an Evening to be a Hammer!

What an evening!

I am too tired to write much, but I feared the worst this evening. It didn’t start well when I got off the tube at Plaistow rather than Upton Park. God knows why. Anyway, I got there with ten minutes to go in the first half, in time to witness the brilliant Antonio goal. When they equalised I did wonder what might happen and then to see three of our players go off injured you just thought the Gods were against us.

Towards the end Liverpool did look the more dangerous side, but Carroll did really well and even after his injury Valencia kept threatening. He should certainly have had a penalty. Payet flattered to deceive through most of the game, but with him you only need one piece of sheer brilliance, and from the moment that final cross left his boot you just knew someone would be on the end of it. That it was Ogbonna was fantastic, as he had a great game.

Antonio was made man of the match, but for me the unsung hero was Pedro Obiang. He hasn’t really had a run of games or the chance to show us what he can do, but tonight he really shone in a very understated way. He has a zen like quality about him and rarely looks flustered. He shows some excellent skill at times and I’d really like to see him stay in the team for a bit. It’s just brilliant that there is now so much competition in midfield.

And Darren Randolph. Magnificent. That save in the one on one was world class. We are so lucky to have two such outstanding keepers. He was man of the match at Anfield, and wasn’t far off it tonight. I hope he plays at Blackburn. He deserves to.

It was great to meet David Hautzig, Bianca Westwood, Nigel Kahn, David Silver and David Blackmore of Blowing Bubbles fame. And thanks to Jon Ross for hosting once again. It was a brilliant evening, and I wish I could write something more meaningful and detailed, but I’m beat.
