West Ham 1 FC Birkirkara 0 - Are There Really Any Positives To Take?

I wasn’t there tonight, but I suspect everyone will share my disappointment that we were only able to score one goal against a team that would presumably find playing in the Conference a bit of a challenge. We certainly had the lion’s share of the possession, but failed to capitalise on it. Let’s look at the match statistics…

MATCH STATS

Possession 74-26
Shots on target 7-0
Shots off target 7-1
Corners 8-0
Crosses 18-2
Bookings 3-1

At least we scored through James Tomkins, albeit the goal took 80 minutes to arrive. So why couldn’t we do better? Perhaps those of you that were at the game might have a bash at telling us. Here are a few questions…

1. Did Maiga show any signs of being dangerous?
2. Zarate provided the cross which led to the goal, but did he look as dangerous as he did against FC Lusitans?
3. What did Martin Samuelsen look like when he came on?
4. Did Elliot Lee do anything to impress when he came on as a sub?
