Kevin Nolan has been a good captain of West Ham. He’s a clear leader of men, just the sort of person you want captaining your side. It is clear, however, that if he stays at West Ham to see out the rest of his contract (one more year) he won’t be an automatic first team choice. Indeed, I suspect he will leave the club within the next month.
I think most of us would like to see Mark Noble take over the armband, but I wonder whether he will be an automatic first choice in the side under Slaven Bilic. So if not Mark, then who?
Winston Reid captained the side last year for a couple of games. James Tomkins did the same against Lusitans but again, will he be an automatic first choice? If Alex Song rejoins, you could make an argument for him, but he’s likely to be out injured until October.
If I had to bet, I reckon I’d put money on Winston Reid. But I’d still rather that the honour went to Mark Noble.
Who would your choice be?
