Rumours are swirling that we might be in the market to sign Liverpool striker Fabio Borini. No, really. It’s the kind of rumour that makes you want to bang your head on the desk and shriek “Nooooooooooo!” The fee is said to be £8 million, can you believe.
In his entire career he’s only made 94 first team appearances, scoring 24 goals. At Sunderland he managed 7 in 32. At Liverpool he scored 2 in 25. With that ratio we might as well have kept Carlton Cole and saved ourselves £8 million. I am very much hoping this is all agent talk and there’s nothing in it. Surely we can do better than this. Loic Remy is a proven goalscorer and wouldn’t cost much, if any more. Given the choice of the two I suspect I know which 98% of us would go for.
Or do you disagree?
UPDATE: Claret & Hugh has a quote from a club spokesman saying there’s nothing in this rumour. Long may that remain so.
