What a difference a year makes

What a difference a year makes! This graphic of the two Premier League tables after 16 games of this season compared to last season illustrates the massive move forward we have made as a club. This time last year we only managed to win three games against Cardiff on the August opening day, the 3-0 win against Spurs in October and a 3-0 win against Fulham who were eventually relegated along side Cardiff. We had registered five draws including in the first sixteen games including Newcastle, Southampton, Swansea, Villa and a 0-0 draw with Sunderland which marked our 16th game as it did this season.

Just to remind ourselves we have eight glorious wins so far against Palace, Liverpool, QPR, Burnley, Man City, Newcastle, Albion and Swansea. Draws against Hull, Stoke, Villa and Sunderland. That adds up to 28 points which is double the 14 we achieved after 16 games last season.

We have conceded the same amount goals 19 in both seasons up to the 16 game mark but crucially we have scored double the amount of goals this season, 27 compared to just 13 last season at the 16 game point. Those 27 goals have come from 12 different West Ham players, a feat only shared with Chelsea in the Premier League.

Sakho is leading from the front with seven league goals, then comes Downing and Valencia on three each, Carroll, Cole and Zarate have two each to their names which leaves Cresswell, Noble, Nolan, Reid and Tomkins with one goal a piece. It is about time Kouyate, Song, Jenkinson and Collins got on the score sheet and register their first goal of the season ;-)

This time last last year Ravel Morrison was West Ham’s top goal scorer with three goals, he just returned to West Ham from Cardiff City yesterday to train with the Hammers development squad, what a difference a year has made for him too! In second place we had to rely on Carlton Cole and Vaz Te with two goals a piece then Nolan, Noble, Reid, Diame and Joe Cole with one goal each to make it twelve West Ham goals after 16 games, thirteen were you count an own goal by Liverpool.
