Fancy a Day Out?

Guest Post by *Safe Hands

As you will no doubt be aware from the discussions we’ve been having about our crest, the shape of the shield is influenced by a cross section of the first iron-hulled warship, HMS Warrior, which was constructed at the Thames Iron Works.

This could just be me so please excuse my ignorance, but I’ve just found out the “HMS Warrior”http://www.hmswarrior.org is at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. I thought it had gone the way of most of our historical ships so I was a bit gobsmacked to find out it’s still afloat and you can go and have a look around. Also, from 24 July to 2 September they’re running free activities for kids … well, they’re free once you’ve paid to go on board.

I just thought it may be a place to visit during the holidays – of course, the primary reason being a day out for your young ones to discover and appreciate our rich naval history … nothing whatsoever to do with the fact it was built by Thames Iron Works and has a connection to our club :)
Bon voyage!
