Match Preview: West Ham v Crystal Palace

Win this game and we’re safe. Possibly not mathematically, but in every other way. No one can seriously imagine Fulham getting to 40 points and all the other teams below us overtaking us. But Crystal Palace have had a magnificent season since replacing Ian Holloway with Tony Pulis. The style of their football may not be everyone’s cup of tea (where have I heard that one before!?) but it has been effective.Any team that wins at Everton is doing something right.

Today’s game will be overshadowed by the death of Dylan Tombides. There will be a minute’s applause before the game. Some have questioned whether a minute’s silence might not be more appropriate, and I have some sympathy with that, but who are we to question the wishes of Dylan’s family? I’d love the club to announce that the Young Hammer of the Year Trophy will be named after Dylan in future.

Anyway, back to today’s game. I don’t see nay wholesale changes in the lineup. I imagine that Kevin Nolan will come back in to the side if he’s fit, meaning that Antonio Nocerino will lose out. One of the keys to this game will be whether Andy Carroll can get on the end of Matt Jarvis’s and Stewart Downing’s crosses.

And finally, I do so hope everyone gives Marouane Chamakh the welcome back he so richly deserves. But of course, no doubt he will score.

PARISH NOTICE

One or two of you have asked why I haven’t been doing the Player Performance posts after recent games. Unfortunately SurveyMonkey have changed the way they configure their results graph, which means I can’t post the results in the way I used to. As yet I haven’t found a way around this. It’s very annoying.
