James Tomkins due in court this morning

James Tomkins will appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court No.4 at 10am today charged with being drunk and disorderly, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer outside Sugar Hut in Brentwood on 22nd December last year.

Tomkins previously pleaded not guilty to all three charges when he appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on 9th January after being charged following the incident.

His legal team said he would “vigorously” fight the charges.

At the time of his arrest a spokesman for Essex Police said: “Police were called by security staff from the Sugar Hut Village shortly before 12.30am on Sunday the 22nd following reports of a disturbance.Officers arrived and arrested James Tomkins before later charging him with one count of assaulting a police officer, one count of resisting arrest and one count of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.”

He was out with two other team mates on Saturday night after playing in West Ham’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United.

A video emerged on youtube earlier this year which appears to show the moment of his arrest.

If found guilty of assaulting a police officer an offender could face up to a maximum 6 months in jail and/or a fine.
