Rumours abound that former West Ham starlet Rio Ferdinand may make a dramatic return to Upton Park during the coming transfer window. He’s been told he won’t be a first choice at Manchester United and his contract finishes at the end of the season. It is thought he will probably retire at that point, at the age of 35. However, a last hurrah at his spiritual home might well give him a new lease of life.
From West Ham’s point of view we get a player with a proven track record and if he is signed on a ‘pay as you play’ basis until the end of the season it is difficult to see what there is to lose. With Winston Reid playing a similar game to Rio, he could clearly learn a lot from him, as could some of our younger defenders.
