I was surprised when Sam Allardyce dropped Jussi Jaaskelainen for the Manchester united game. Apart from making at least one terrible error at Norwich, Jussi has played some great games this season and been man of the match on several occasions. Adrian has played in all the League Cup games., and will do so in future, but it was surely a risk to blood him in the Premier League against Man U and Arsenal. In each game his mistakes led to the opposition scoring a goal we should never have conceded. However, apart from those two mistakes he made some very good saves and looked reasonably solid. He did well as first choice goalkeeper for Real Betis last season, and it is clear that at the age of 39 we need to be planning for the future.
It’s good that we have someone keeping Jussi on his toes. Will Jussi be brought back on Saturday to face West Brom? I doubt it, but we’ll see. I suspect Sam wants to make a judgement about Adrian after the Cup game against Forest.
Well, what do you think? Who should be our first choice goalkeeper for the rest of the season?
