Three At The Back The Way Forward?

NOTE FROM IAIN: The Predictor League for Everton on Wednesday is ready to enter HERE. The deadline for entries is 4pm on Wednesday.

I’ll do what I was always advised not to and start with another apology this week. I’ve had an allergic reaction after retrieving a ball, and getting stung or scratched, from a hedge during my lad’s Sunday team’s game. I’ve come up in some horrible blotches and am struggling to do anything at the moment so it’s going to be an extremely short article this week.

After watching, and itch scratching my way through, Sunday night’s match I was reminded how strong we look with three at the back. In David Moyes’ first stint as gaffer he employed the defensive formation to great effect and I’m pleased to see this return. Clearly the tactic isn’t going to work in every situation however it’s great to see DM ‘mixing it up’. The next progression I’d like to see would be an, in game, changing formation which we’ve not seen at West Ham for as long as I can remember. Like for like substitutions have been our MO for a very long time and have been ineffective nearly all the time.

So do we want to see the team set up with a back 3/5 as our main formation in the future? I’d love to go in to further detail about how certain players, like Artur Masuaku, benefit from the team being set up in this way but the itching is in my hands and, quite frankly, typing is agony so I’ll leave you with that question to discuss.

Have a good week all.

Cheers
Gav.
