Hello and thanks for a wealth of food for thought via your blog.

I can always depend on your site for something new and of interest, to enjoy a spare moment reading on my Blackberry :-)
I work in the fitness industry as a Personal Trainer, and find myself training clients who want to play football, among other sports.

So...my own West Ham story: As it happened, my choice of team was neither geographical nor related to who my family or friends support. Born in '77 and bred far away from London, in Yorkshire, the Hammers managed to capture my attention on TV, as something different and, for me, always rather special.

I first came to notice the team through learning bass guitar and having a taste for heavy metal: Steve Harris, bassist of Iron Maiden, played for the junior Hammers, has the crest on the front of his bass to this day, and put some Hammer-related clues to spot on pieces of their album art.

Despite the fact that, for my own mum and dad, everything indisputably revolved around Man U, for me the Hammers have been the ones who've always seemed to naturally put a big smile on my face. Easily the most engaging of the teams to watch; head and shoulders above the more local clubs when I consider who, overall, has kept me hooked.

Maybe their unpredictability as a club has played a part in that fascination. But, as they say, you don't choose your team. Your team chooses you.

Up The Irons!

Hey,
I too support the hammers cos my best friends did at primary school (in Hampshire)!
I also now live in Kent (in Capel-le-Ferne, twixt Folkestone and Dover)!
I also used to have a season ticket in row X of the DML (seat 178) but I had to give it up when I moved down here and had kids (so I didn't think it was fair to leave my wife with newborn twins for several hours every other Saturday) and lost my job (so I couldn't afford it)!
This site is one of the few that, for some reason, flies under the radar of our IT's security so I shall be a very frequent visitor now I've discovered it!

Cheers,
Graham

Hi Ian,

So many years have passed, to read comments like you have written is quite thought prevoking. We have all moved on through life taking up our new positions in life. My memories of life when we were younger at harvest time were of sandwiches which your mum made, mostly jam If my mind serves me correctly. Do you remember the time you put the bale hook through my bottom lip ? Never been the same since. Your uncle always comes to mind, I think his name was Pat, he always had a role up in his mouth with the grime that came with it. he was always some one that I looked up to. I could go on for hours.
Never know, might see you soon.
