More Clungetastic Gossip on the Transfer Front

In her Sun column yesterday, Karren Brady alluded to two West Ham players who had refused to move to other clubs because of the amount of money they were earning at West Ham. Adzman89 has just cleared up the identity of one of them in one his reports from his club insider, Clunge. Apparently Freddie Piquionne refused to move to Wolves as it would have entailed a pay cut from £38k a week to £25k a week. That just about sums up all you need to know about the lazy good for nothing. Clunge also reports that both Rob Green and Julien Faubert are refusing to sign new contracts because they want to leave on free transfers in the summer when their current contracts are up. That’s not the first time it’s been reported, but after James Tonkins yesterday signing a four year deal, it is very disappointing. If this really is the case, then I’d put them on the market now and try to offload them over the next week. That may sound like madness, as they have been two of our best players this season, but the club shouldn’t be held to ransom like this by players who ought to know better. I am really disappointed in Rob Green. Yes, I know he hasn’t been happy at his treatment and the fact that his pay doesn’t equal others, but if he was going to find a better club, it would have happened last summer. And it didn’t.

Clunge also reports that Freddie Sears has been offered to Bournemouth on loan, but they weren’t interested. Matt Taylor will be back for Ipswich and Papa Bouba Diop should also have recovered by then. He also thinks that Guy Demel is 2 to 3 weeks away from fitness. Negotiations are ongoing with Robert Hall for a new long term deal and Sam will reportedly have £35 million made available to him if we win promotion. He’s got £10 million to play with over the next ten days.

Slaven Bilic has apparently recommended West Ham to Jelavic and he is keen to join. West Ham are trying to send Piquionne in the other direction. One can but hope.

Well, enough for you to debate there!

    Crikey…..that was a depressing post…..Green and Faubert on a free, Piquionne won't leave…..

I just hope we can buy a one or two wide men…….

  2. safhammer says:

Rob Green wants to move….sad day.

    • HammersWest says:

Very sad, but he's apparently paid a fraction of the field players wages, so who can blame him. If it was me in my regular job I think I'd do the same, and you can hardly say he isn't playing his best while he's still here. I'd love to keep him though

      • safhammer says:

        True. Cant argue with that.

      • Diesel_Power says:

If that is the case then strike a deal with Rob and either keep him or sell him now. Let's hope if Rob really wants to go he will accept an offer from whoever comes in for him and not leave for nothing in the summer :(

  3. safhammer says:

Faubert can go, he is very hit and miss. Well more miss than hit.

  4. exeterhammerboz says:

Difficult one this, if well sell Green and don’t get promoted would we kick ourselves as he really is a top keeper and has gathered us points single handedly this year. On the other hand would you keep him and let him go on a free if he helps us get promoted, if BFS is gonna get 35 million to spend if we go up then christ we could get a good replacement for a small part of that budget. Interesting stuff, as for Faubert let him go now if we can get some dosh for him, he has done ok but nothing great. COYI

  5. Stewpott says:

I don't see why Green would want to leave if we get promotion, doesn't seem logical

  6. HammerRay says:

I don't get the Rob Green bit, and would be gutted if that were true, as he's been a top servant. We'd miss him big time if he goes. Not surprised about Piq though. Just further evidence of his very poor attitude. Shame we can't just sack him! Faubert splits opinion. Lots like him, lots don't. Personally I wouldn't miss him too much as he's largely under-achieved in my opinion, but as I say, I know others like him, so I'm not going to have a barney over it! All welcome to our opinions! ;)

    • Diesel_Power says:

If Rob decides to go, we should get Almunia back as he was terrific for us when he was here :) I would love to get VORM if we could :)

  7. RoyClark says:

As much as I would like to see the back of Piquionne who can really blame him for taking a cut of a third of his wages. I can't see many of us doing that. The fault lies with the club for giving him the contract in the first place. To say that "sums up all you need to know about the lazy good for nothing" is a ridiculous statement, Iain. Perhaps your mate Dave should take that attitude with some of his banker mates – which he won't of course.

    • Soldier_Tom says:

I totally agree Roy, talk about pot calling the lkettle … they signed him on silly wages under their chosen one Avraam Grant and now expect him to leave and take a pay cut to free up room for other high earners to come in … yeah right and we'd all do that wouldn't we.

    • Fitzhammer says:

Soldier Tom beat me to it with the pot kettle analogy.

  8. RobIrons says:

Blimey this is bad news if true and hopefully it isn't regarding Green particularly. Surely we should be offering him a decent competitive wage though? If Piq is on 38k ffs Green should be on at least double. All silly money but its relative. Pay him. As for Piq, if that's true it explains his attitude, grrrr but I won't slander based on hearsay. Sadly we won't know for sure until the summer is over. Green seems committed to me.

  9. Gebby says:

Pay Green what he wants over last 4 years his been in my top 3 players and very rarely injured, will save 6m on transfer fee’s, Faubert can jog I think he found his level at championship footie. Look for some young blood I like philips at Blackpool or Zaha. COYI

  10. Falvo says:

Wouldn't mind Faubert leaving, apart from depleting the squad somewhat.
Green is a huge loss. Absolutely huge. And now we might regret never giving Stech or Kurucz a chance – as it's now going to cost us money when we have to sign a new keeper because we haven't got a tried and tested replacement ready-made.
Just goes to show you can have the best academy in the world, but you need to have managers adventurous enough to take the risks and give them game-time.

If that story about Piquionne is true, he deserves to be stuck in the reserves and never play a game of football again. That epitomises all that is wrong with football nowadays, a player turning down the opportunity of Premier League football based on a £13k pay-cut – disgraceful.

Good news on Taylor, Diop and Demel. Excellent news on Robert Hall, between the new contract for Tomkins and potentially one for him, it at least shows the intentions of Gollivan to no longer be a feeder club and tie down our best potential for the future. (The only problem is, and I'm not a critic of Allardyce's at present, PERHAPS we don't have the right manager to get the best out of youth at the moment – or maybe the wrong circumstances).

If Sam has £10 million to play with at present, spending £9 million of it on one player seems absolute lunacy! With Bilic's recommendation I could easily see him coming to us, but £9 million is too much. Sign Sordell and Whittingham for the full £10 mill!

  11. codisz says:

Shame if Green left, he is a good keeper and has won many points for us this season. But he is not the keeper who frightens strikers with his presence and sometimes can make the odd mistake at times.
If I am honest for what he does, he is probably the best performer of the team.

As for Faubert, won't shed a tear if he leaves because he hasn't convinced me since his move. If he leaves then Sam will have to buy a replacement and hopefully that player will be more consistent.

Piq has done it now, greedy bastard.
He wanted to leave West Ham for Villa year ago but now wants to stay to warm the bench and collecting 13 grand more here than more playing time at Wolves who are playing in the PL aswell.

Would be brilliant if Sam gets 35 mill in the summer to spend on signings (if we reach the PL) , that is backing the manager!
If that is true I will take my words back what I have said about the owners in the past!

Hopefully we will sign a striker and a couple of wingers before the end of January which will inject some fresh faces and more quality.

    • AussieGraham says:

Mate these owners giving someone 35 million POUNDS to spend?Never in their lifetime or the next!

      • codisz says:

I think we will have to wait and see for that to happen, I said in my post that WHEN it is true but it also could be inaccurate.

What will you say and think if they do give him 35 million transfer money?
Will you change your opinion of the owners?

Or do you think they will give Sam 35 million PENCE to spend?

      • Soldier_Tom says:

Totally agree mate, all talk and cheap has been's is in there blood, all them years at Brum and now with us … leopard and spots springs come to mind

  12. happyhammer1970 says:

Losing Greeno would be a mistake at this stage of the season, even if it means losing him on a free. Where would he go though?

If he does go Al-Habsi coming in when Wigan go down would be a fine replacement

  13. jackthehammer94 says:

Guarentee If we go Up green and Faubert will suddenly want New contracts

If we did sell Green we should Get almunia Back of Wenger with an option To Buy At the end Of the Year

With regards to faubert Another Player with Promise who Has failed

Shame We do This to The good ones

    • Diesel_Power says:

In my opinion, when we get promoted at the end of this season, and i believe we will, they will adjust the wages and contracts to reflect the status. Right now I think they need to be a prudent and keep everyone on their toes. They need to play for their money and better wages or for the transfer they want by catching the eye. If you give them what they want they could do a Piquionne and become lazy and greedy

  14. chickenrunboy says:

Let's be sensible. Football is their profession and who on this site would be happy with a major pay cut or not try to maximise their earnings? We would do the same as Piq and besides who would willingly leave London for Wolverhampton?
The club have overpaid deadbeats for years while failing to keep some of the key players like Rob Green happy. No doubt he's on good money but I see no reason why with his quality, service and experience, he's not close to the highest paid player on our books. Great shame if he does go but I won't begrudge him better money if he can get it. I'll reserve my anger for those that don't try on the pitch.

  15. Soldier_Tom says:

Ahhh the ever reliable clunge again, either he is very close to Gollivan or another bottle washer feeding off scraps giving it some large. The two high earners not wanting to leave shouldn't be too hard to work out, Piquionne and Illunga ?

I don't blame Greeno for not signing a new deal, I don't think he will go anywhere, however I do think he is manouvering himself into a better bargaining position and who is to say we will get promoted ? if we don't then why should he not leave, for me he is in the best form of his career right now and our most consistent player.

As for Faubert, let him go, he is another high earner and we have O'Neill and others to play wide right. I find it hard to believe that he still gets the nod over Sear's who played there last season really well until he was dropped by Avraam just in case we stayed up. Faubert is simply not good enough for the Premiership, much like a few other players we have.

What makes me laugh is the fact that there's Brady going on about trimimg the wage bill in one breath, and David Sullivan offering Nolan, Taylor, Diop, Carew and Faye silly wages in another. So do you actually blame Green waiting for a better offer, or Illunga and Piquionne wanting their contracts paying up or refusing to move on.

As for Jelavic, not for £9m and the associated wages … We could get Sharp, maynard and the boy from Watford for the same price

    • DevoDevo says:

I'm with you on this one Tom. Green is playing hardball and deserves a better deal, which I'm sure he will be offered. If not, who could blame him for leaving?

Piquionne sums up modern football. The analogy that none of us would take a 3rd pay cut is nonsense. Footballers should WANT to play football, not sit on a bench and underperform when selected. In any other walk of life that attitude would result in the sack!

Not bothered abput Faubert going despite his improvement this season. Not good enough at the top level and there are far better right sided players all over the country.

      • Soldier_Tom says:

Devo, what is more alarming is the thought that clunge thinks he is in the know at the club, if all he says is true he paints a very scary picture of how Gollivan run the club, Brady makes the savings and Gollivan blow it all on over inflated wages and transfer fee's.

    • Diesel_Power says:

If Jelavic scores goals for fun and gets us promoted and challenging in the prem then i am sorry you pay it.
It's ALMOST like Manchester United saying No to Messi because they can buy four players for that. He will win you matches and make up for the money spent.

Maybe not the best example but the point being One man is sometimes better than four mediocre ones :)

      • Soldier_Tom says:

My point is you and me could score goals for fun in the SPL playing for Celtic or Rangers, he is just as unproven as Rhodes, Maynard or Sharp … so IMO £9m is risking to much on one player when we are more desperate for a left winger. I think it is wrong to blow the budget on one player at this stage when we all know the squad will need more surgery come the summer.

        • Diesel_Power says:

True, we could LOL :D We do need a wide player who can cross a ball as Bentley, Taylor both out… O neil needs to learn how to being a wide player LOL. I still think we are lacking that creative attacking midfielder like a Benayoun, DiCanio, Berkovic etc… we always had one until Benayoun left. That is when you get the whole team scoring as we then have the attacking formation

        • tonyjones says:

I was impressed with k.boyd's scoring record at G.Rangers and suggested signing him around 18 months ago. His record was better then, than Jelavic's is now. He joined Middlesboro on a f/t after his contract ran out (and was overall dissap), went on loan to forest (and flopped), then was sold to a smaller turkish side for around 1.5 mill euros. Things did not work out and he is now unemployed !!
Paying such a lot for Jelavic sounds a massive risk for me and i hope we buy cheaper options available. If we spend so much on him, we will have nothing left to bring in some width, that i feel me desperately need.

          • Soldier_Tom says:

Tony, I actually think it is all a bluff anyway, they have inquired and and choked on the figures, they simple haven't got that sort of money to spend on one player. The two strikers in our price range haven't even had a bid put in for them from us, Maynard and Sharp would prove worthy signings at £3.5m, add the lad Sordell on the wing and that would be a scoop. You can garantee both Carew and Piquionne would put transfer requests in to get a move once they knew there was no hope of playing time

  16. justhammers says:

I think the piquionne story proves why he was on the bench on Saturday……if we have to pay him, we should try and play him…..

    • Diesel_Power says:

As a sub not coming on, They should make him sprint up and down the touchline for the whole game just so he works for his money and wastes his own time LOL :D

  17. Hammerchris88 says:

Jack Sullivan just tweeted we have failed with 5 huge bids for players.but HOPE to sign a top international before end of transfer window.doesn’t sound too promising if I’m honest. How hard are we pushing the clubs thats players we are bidding for. Can we have rhodes?no.ok sorry for asking. We roll over as a smaller club when teams want our players.time to get a little more pushy.if that’s true about pow then he should be forced to train with the kids and never play for us again.we need Taylor now and could do with demel too.Lansbury is a must start in the next game.I’d drop diop or collison. Probably collison .not because he’s a worse player than diop it’s because of style of play.Lansbury has the ability to run the channels if he finds himself there. Have a strange feeling we will sign only one player so if we do then
Hopefully he will be real quality, not injury prone, available and match sharp straight away. Green and faubert would be disappointing
Losses. Green moreso obviously but would like
To see faubert in premier league even for the first half of the season then flog him if he hasn’t shown Anything worthwhile. Sears not interesting
Bournmouth ? I know he’s not great but he would surely do a job for them so I would speculate westham
Want a fee for him or want some of his wages paid for the duration. 35mil if we go up? For that sort of money we will hopefully not go spending
It on savios or other teams reserves.getting ahead of myself here! Coyi!!

  18. Hammerchris88 says:

Also would like to see out striker Robert hall play as a striker not a left winger .he will be wasted and spolit (like sears )if played out of position for too long

  19. StainesWestHam says:

I like the idea of Jelavic – he could possibly cut it in the premier league. Surely Rangers would take Carew and Piquionne in part exchange or on loan?? Carew would be perfect for the SPL…even if we have still pay a proportion of his wages. If it's true we have 10 mill we should go for Jelavic and Sordell..

  20. JMan43 says:

I think we should be contemplating not signing anyone in this window and concentrating on how to get the best out of what we already have. We are winning and need to continue to eek out those results and then use all our available resources in the summer to move forward in the Premier League. Jelavic at £9m, no thanks, Rhodes at £8m no thanks, Maynard at £3m plus someone like Sordell or Philips I would be happy with but need to plan the remaining games without anyone new and make sure we keep winning, no matter how ugly. Expansive football at all costs no thanks.

    • RoyClark says:

I think you may be right there. If we get Taylor and Demel back fit we should have enough to get promoted. It's then that we should look at bringing players in as we will need to strengthen significantly if we are to have any hope od surviving in the premier league.
Promotion will increase revenue and make us a more attractive proposition to better players. In the meantime, giving some game time to a couple of the better youngsters will enable the club to ascertain whether they really are good enough to cut it.

  21. westham88 says:

Sky now have us linked with Peter Odemwingie, what are peoples thoughts on him. on his day he is a good player and scored 15 premiership goals last season but at 30 i think he might only go down hill from now on.
i would let Piq rot in the reserves if he wont leave.

  22. FleaTamer says:

    re: Green

Let's just say for a moment we were not promoted. Rob, 32, would surely want to move on and, like Scott last year, have a chance of one last big contract with a top club. Who would blame him after what he has done for WH (as with Scott)? However if he signs a long contract with WH now then this would price a lot of clubs out of buying him and he would most probably spend another season in the chumpionship. It still baffles me why no serious offers came in for him last summer, even though he was, unjustifiably in my opinion, still tarred with the World Cup blunder.

My hope is we'll go up, and he will sign a new long contract (4/5 yrs) with WH in the prem. Only if one of the top 4 clubs (i.e. Champs League teams) come in for him in the summer would be be tempted away (as long as we are promoted that is).

  23. HammerRay says:

One thing I'd add is I've never seen Greeno put in a lacklustre performance like Piq has done many times, so if Rob did want out he hides it well! Lets hope he stays for many years yet as he's one of the main reasons we are sat top of the table today!

  24. mileendpaul says:

Changing subject slightly – how important is it that we are now top as opposed to second ? To me, psychollgically it is massive – we now only have to look down and not up as well. Soton now have us above them and Cardiff on their heels – that will play on them tomorrow. Plus their next two games after tomorrow are massive – Cardiff and Brum ! If we can do Ipswich I think a bigger gap thna three points will appear

  25. AussieGraham says:

It goes to show you if Freddie Sears has been knocked back by Bournemouth, where next if they don't rate him?

  26. percydaltons says:

One thing that you's have to say about Rob Green is that he's a strong character, after all the nonsense of USA chants from so called England fans,he gets his head down and plays possibly the best football of his career.I feel sure he could have gone in the summer but he's stayed where he's appreciated.

this being a debate subject at the time of Ernie Gregory's passing is fitting,EG being a loyal West Ham bloke all his career.I for one wouldn't begrudge Green anything better if we didn't get promoted, but why would he go anywhere else if he gets the right deal?

Despite what other's say about West Ham these days post Tevez,Eggie and all the crap we have had to endure,we are still a special club.We still need a few additions in this window to get us over the line, let's worry about the summer issues in the summer is my view.

  27. andyhammer says:

Seems like we've missed out on Jelavic, and by these comments from his father, we are lucky we didn't sign him. Last thing you need is dad making comments like this in the press- sounds like a problem family- stay well rid.
Let's get a decent nippy winger, and try to nab Rhodes or Sordell – If we can't do the business then don't waste the money.
LIVERPOOL want to hijack West Ham's pursuit of Rangers ace Nikica Jelavic.

And the Croatian striker's dad revealed his son dreams of moving to Anfield — under boss Kenny Dalglish.

Championship leaders West Ham made a £6million offer for Jelavic last week — but talks have stalled over the player's wage demands.

Jelavic's dad Philip said: "We know about the interest of West Ham and QPR. But Nikica has five or six clubs that are interested, including that of the great Liverpool.

"As for West Ham and QPR, Nikica is more ambitious than that.

"It's most likely that he'll sign for Liverpool.

    • SailorMalan says:

I think thats a fair comment andyhammer, if it was my son I would say the same.

    • Diesel_Power says:

      Bilic, recommends us to Jelavic

    • brazilianhammer says:

"As for West Ham and QPR, Nikica is more ambitious than that.

That´s what we need to change after the promotion.

Unlike Man City we don´t have a Sheik, so we have to work under our small budget and sign the right players. No more Carew, Piquionnes, Keanes.

  28. Razor says:

Aussie you mean you don’t believe that our half owners will give Sam 35mill to spend in the summer ? After all the money they have pumped into our club saving us from extinction and getting the great grant in as our saviour. Buying piq and paying him 38grand a week such good football businessmen eh! Next your be saying they should sell our club to someone like Tony f at queens pr! And stick to what they are good at. Shame on you son.

  29. westhamjohnny_ says:

I see birmingham have said to west brom to double there offer of £1m for Liam ridgewell……. I no we're after a striker and a wide man but for £2m he would be a great signing can play left back and centre back.

Also seen celtic are looking to sell paddy mccort, now I havent seen to much of him but when I have he certainly has a lot of skill and I'm just wondering if he could do it in the championship.

    • JackSparrow86 says:

I agree mate. Prem experience too. He would be a great signing for £2mill and we need cover at left back. McCartney is only on loan so come the end of the season we will definitely need a player like Ridgewell, so why not get him now for only a few million. I cant think of anyone else with his experience that we could get for that money.

  30. lenny_fox says:

Is it an indication of how unexcited we are by the actual football being played as there are only four comments, two of which are about Di Canio, on the ratings of the last couple of games?

  31. brazilianhammer says:

"Negotiations are ongoing with Robert Hall for a new long term deal and Sam will reportedly have £35 million made available to him if we win promotion."

Well, well, well. Let´s hope for the right deals. At least 5 good players. Let´s pray.

    • thomasd1983 says:

dude stop beliving some guy called adzman….between him and braderz they have not got one single thing right, think you all need too realise that west ham are playing everyone including there own fans, do you not think they know about adzman?? we all know gold loves the net so do you not think he is aware of such sites like these with so called inside sources!! come on people wake up!!! they are happy for silly little rumours like this too come out just as long as you think they are trying too sign someone then thats fine…go too other teams websites see if they have "a Source" that just texts some guy who owns a yellow ferrari or something else ridiculous and gives up all the clubs secrets and transfer plans instead of passing it all onto a journalist (like all other inside sources at clubs do ) who would give it national coverage the next day instead of just sharing with a few people on twitter…..COME ON YOU LOT WAKE UP cant belive people on here are actually discussing a ten year old boys tweets for gods sake!!! you do know he is the owners son right??? he'll print whatever daddy tells him too and you and one thing it certainly aint, is THE TRUTH

      • brazilianhammer says:

Man, I don´t REALLY believe that we will have THIS amount of money. I know that we´re not playing FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer, but as a WHU fan, I´m sorry, but sometimes it´s good to speculate and get off this mediocrity, like losing Parker to the Spurs, being the last club of EPL or supporting Carew, Piquionne and Sears. You don´t have to believe in every single shit that this guy or the sun publishes, but you have to, at least, believe in something.

      • Soldier_Tom says:

Shhhhh don't tell everyone, I was enjoying the thought they actually think we believe them. As for Braderz though, he is a top lad, is he wrong to pass on what he is being told ? I think it is all part of the territory when you have the likes of Gollivan and their toy tester at the helm

  32. Diesel_Power says:

    COYI WHTID
IN: RHODES,JELAVIC, ODEMWINGIE, ALMUNIA, VORM, RIDGEWELL
    OUT: PIQUIONNE, CAREW, SEARS,
POSS OUT IF THEY REALLY WANT TO GO: GREEN, FAUBERT (would want to keep both)
I would be happy with that :)

  33. Diesel_Power says:

Now Let's give our youth a chance

  34. pjdpjd says:

maybe ive become an old cynic but gollivan seem to do the same old dance every transfer window.tell us all that we have bids in fo such and such a player, dont get him and get an oap loanee.the huddersfield boy was the first this window ,now yesterday the croatian lad s personal terms cannot be agreed and now other clubs are in for him.what are the odds we get kevin davies…..nil i hope

  35. FinHammer says:

We have a squad that will get us into the PL. At that point we can then spend.
As a premier league club we will attract the players and also we will have a better fiancial standing.
Lets face it the accounts were horrific and I really understand that the owners are doing their best for the club to get us straight moneywise.
Seems to me a pointess and expensive excersise to be spending money now when we need not to.
Save the money and spend after promotion!

  36. ChinaHammer says:

Dont Know if anybody has sen this yet but it could be interesting as i know we were looking at Jason Puncheon in the summer i think, i think he would still be a good buy and fits in the area where we lack the most 'The wings'
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16678939…

  37. JackSparrow86 says:

I cant help but feel that we are going for unrealistic targets. Jelavic and Odemwingie wont be sold for anything less than £8million and will demand high wages.

Apparently Jelavic's agent laughed at our suggestion of £20'000 a week, claiming he would hold out for double that. Odemwingie scored 15 goals in the prem last season but has only scored 4 in 13 so far this season. West Brom brought Long in from the Championship and he has started consistently ahead of Odemwingiw. So is £8million too much?

Personally I think we should be looking at players like Lewis McGugan. The lad had a great game against us and has been a sensation in a very poor Forest team. The club are in need of money and we could probably get him on the cheap. I believe his goals from midfield and his bit of flair is exactly what we need. He is a player that I could see adapting to the prem too.

Another worry I have is that this transfer window could be all smoke and mirrors. We seem to be bidding for a lot of players we dont stand a chance of getting, and only this morning I read and article where Allardyce said he is happy to sign no one in this window? I dont doubt how hard our owners are trying, but are we going for the right players? Im not sure.

I'm wondering if Carlton Cole will be going to either help fund, or alternatively be offered as some sort of swap, a move for someone like Odemwingiw (terrific player IMO) who has proved himself at Premier League level.

      • JackSparrow86 says:

Cole has come out a few times and publicly stated he wants to stay at the club. Maybe it's because he feels like he might get sold but feels settled in London and doesn't want to move. Either that or he is happy at West Ham and just wants to reassure the fans we're not selling any of our players. I still believe Cole and Baldock will score more goals once Taylor is back. He is our only creative outlet and when he was fit our current squad were scoring a lot more goals. Personally I think we should be looking at wingers and creative midfielders as much as strikers in this window.

        • Goatygav says:

Yeah – hear what you're saying and I agree. I just think that it might be time for Carlton to move on and bring in someone new to pair up with Baldock. A striker that scores goals as well as does all the hard work & hold up play that CC brings to the party.

          • JackSparrow86 says:

I see where you're coming from. I have always backed Cole but he is incredibly inconsistent. On his day he can be unplayable, but these performances are becoming rarer and rarer and in all fairness he should be destroying the championship.

In his defence though, Allardyce has rarely played him alongside Baldock and usually throws him up front on his own in a 4-5-1, which doesn't really suit Cole. We need a creative midfielder with vision to be picking him out with clever passes and we need to get him and Baldock playing together and forging a partnership if we hope to get the best out of him. That said though, do we have the time and we can we afford to risk it?

"apparently jelavic's agent laughed at our suggestion of £20'000 a week" sorry but how do you know that??

      • JackSparrow86 says:

It was part of an article I read this morning on News Now. It said that Rangers had given West Ham permission to speak with Jelavic and his agent but after talks we were miles apart on agreeing personal terms. We weren't looking to pay any more than £20k a week in wages, but his agent apparently said that interest from other clubs was strong and he believed he could achieve twice that and laughed at the idea of him being offered £20k. His father then came out and said there was interest from Liverpool and that he would probably sign for them as his ambitions were too high for West Ham and QPR.

It might all be media nonsense but thats what it said. I would be interested to know what he is on at Rangers. I cant imagine its more than £20k!

        • davethehammer says:

The media dont want to see really good players to come to West Ham.

        • thomasd1983 says:

thanks for that mate… sounds like his dad dont want him at no one but a top six club then!! oh well enjoy the spl then!!

          • JackSparrow86 says:

Let him stay here then because if this liverpool rumour doesn't materialise then he's certainly burned his bridges by undermining West Ham and QPR. Well, his dad has.

        • Soldier_Tom says:

When was the last time a club bought a £9m striker and offered him a pittance in wages ? just goes to show that clunge and adzman are so in the know … if we can't afford the wages then that tells you all you need to know about that deal, £9m indeed

          • JackSparrow86 says:

I agree, I cant see many £9million players signing contracts for £20k a week. Doesn't make much sense to me. But then again it could just be the media spinning the yarn as usual. The truth is that nobody knows anything for sure until a contract has been signed. The speculation does make for some entertaining reading though.

Mentioned his name earlier but since saying it I spoke to a couple of cetic fans about Paddy McCourt and watched a few clips of him on YouTube and he is certainly what we are missing he has skill, loves taking on players and creates a lot of chances and I reckon he could cut it in the championship at least. Have a look on YouTube Paddy McCourt goals.

  39. eric_nyc says:

Well it seems Jelavic's dad has said that he would rather play for Liverpool if they are bidding. I don't see how we could compete. Same old story. I am still holding out for Sordell. Is Maynard still in the picture?

Anyone concerned that Darious Henderson had his second hat trick for Millwall? His second hat trick! We need to get goals from open play starting with Ipswich

Reading the transcript from Harry's trial at Southwarc CC today, interesting to learn that H earned 300k from Rio's move to Leeds back in 2000. Not a bad week's work, have to say.
But before everyone starts calling him a thieving git, it appears it is pretty common practice for all manager's to take that sort of cut from transfer profits.

  41. davethehammer says:

Sod Jelavic, dont want him to come to us he's a glory hunter.
Seems as though no great players want to come and play for us.
Then again it seems that all media outlets dont want any great players to come to West Ham so they make up a load of S**T about us and put them off,the EVIL media.
It seems as though if Sully and Gold want a great player quick they will have to break the bank, which isnt easy in january window.

    Anyone heard any news?

There's been a lot of talk about agents today, and the influence that this is having in this window. KUMB has highlighted a story which started as a bit of a rant on Peter Harrison's Twitter feed, but is also linked back to Bolton and a Wanderers Fan page, much like KUMB in format called the Manny Road blog.

It strikes me that the same name, Mark Curtis, is mentioned in all Harrisons rantings (he certainly has an axe to grind over tapping up by agents). But despite that there is still a discernable pattern if what I have read is correct. It is alleged that players seem to swap agents immediately before a deal goes through, because certain agents have close links to certain clubs and can make more money through this. But OK we have heard all this before. The main allegations are linked to Phil Gartside and Bolton and were aired on a Panorama program in 2006.

What now pokes out is that Tomkins, previously with a local firm, transferred to Mark Curtis just before the speculation about a move to Newcastle. New contract, big wage increase. Now Collison is rumoured to have signed with Curtis.

It will be interesting to see which players who come in are also connected to this agent, just as it was noted that Barry Silkman was very involved in much of our transfer business during Avram Grant's time.

Now I'm not alleging that anyone is taking money that they shouldn't, or that I have any evidence of undue influence on players. Harrison can make enough trouble all by himself I'm sure. I just find the situation disquieting. Are agents too close to clubs, and are they acting on behalf of more than one party in the transfer? Is there an organised tapping up of players by other more senior players on behalf of agents?

There was a comment posted to the effect that Mark Noble as being deliberately unsettled – it will certainly be interesting to find out if he swaps his agent too.

BTW, Mark Curtis represents Sam Allardyce and Kevin Nolan, and also rumoured to have represented Andy Carroll in his recent record breaking move.

As yet, despite some very strong, direct and personal allegations against names still in the game appearing on Twitter, Manny Road and other places, no legal proceedings have been instigated for defamation.
