The Optimism of Karren Brady

There’s an absolutely fantastic interview in today’s Independent on Sunday with Karren Brady. It’s full of optimism and it’s almost inspirational. She eulogises about the club’s plans for the Olympic Stadium and reveals that she expects to get a six month exlusive negotiation with HMG about the future of the stadium.

Was a really good read, it would seem that the Olympic Stadium will be ours which i am happy about but i will miss Upton Park a lot, the memories we have of the good times and a lot of the bad but moving is right if we want to become a bigger club and attract bigger players. I am pleased to see that we are looking at big players and i am optimistic for a better future for West Ham.

Dispite all the negative talk about gollivan I feel we’re now seeing their dream of West Ham starting to take shape. First get rid of zo#a & start to get their own people in. It sounds petty but I love what they’ve done with the kits. Going back to our roots is exactly what we needed & as long as it happens on fhe pitch I can only see great things ahead. COYI!

I really hope we pull off this deal and get the stadium. I have been over there and it is a fantastic looking stadium. Had a little tour of it and I’d be happy to have that as our new home. A traditional club in a modern stadium. And if the club stick to there word and bring down tickets prices I can see us selling out the 60,000 capacity week in week out. Well maybe not for the Blackburn & Bolton games as there boring usually. COYI

Have just read it through and was worried about the 'All that stuff about the athletics track being in the sight-lines is a red herring,' sentence. It was of great concern to me. So far as I know sight-lines are not at issue at all – it's all about the distance from the pitch the fans will be watching from that's our biggest worry.

There's still next to no information coming out about the 'like watching ants play football on a distant subbuteo pitch' issue. If there's nothing in it then I'm fully behind the club's bid to get the Olympic Stadium. If there's going to be an athletics track between the stands and the pitch then it just won't be West Ham. Simple as!

    • Thats exactly my concern. My seat is back row LBM centre of goal which is great. Because of oval shape of new stadium as I understand it central positions are furthest away from pitch so I'll either be miles from the action or will have to swap for corner seat

Good read ian thanks usually get the independant not because im lib dem as im new labour but like the paper for good read on lots of topics and kb sounds a good business woman of sensible ideas and upton park full of brilliant memories over the years but time must move on and imagine cheap tickets to schools and getting future supporters following west ham not man u cos they win the league well used to now chelsea but get my point and the area I was born is now reborn and I dont mind as times change and that super stadium will be great with other sports to use also and the whole of stratford shopping rail links schools will be great for all of us also sounds like remy not dead yet which im really looking forward to watch play in our colours this season!

Had a good read and there is very much cause of opat the pitch will be optimism!

What I am worried about is that the stadium will be used for a lot more sports than football.
What can happen is that the pitch will be used so much that the pitch wont recover as well.

Take a lot at the pitches at Wigan and Wembley the pitch is awful, with Wigans ground is that it is used for Rugby and football and you can see how the pitch is suffering from that.

Do I need to say more about the pitch at Wembley?
    Everybody knows that story!

  8. Will miss Upton Park but lets face it, since that Dr Martens stand was built the atmosphere went down anyway. Upton Park is old and shabby these days, and to move forward, we need change.

I am concerned like most, as we have not seen any plans for how it will look as a football stadium whne it has been transformed, however, what I will say is, full up with 60,000 West Ham fans is bound to make it a noisy arena!!

    • I was also pleased to read that she thought the players were untouchable, and that she wants to bring the fans closer to them…. I remember when Redknapp was in charge, you could go down and watch the players train, and then meet them all afterwards and talk to them.

Nowadays, it's all about keeping tactics secret so that the scouts can't come down, and that means stopping all the fans from coming in to watch. I hope that changes, as I used to love going down there as a kid and getting all my autographs!!

All it will cost is our heart and sole and a few quid down specsavers, the deal as it is at the moment is not for me and after 42yrs I can see my visits coming to an end along with my 6 kids.
