If West Ham Want Remy, Make the Deal Happen!

Will Remy join West Ham or not?  How serious is the alleged competition from Spurs and Liverpool?   Is there an emerging interest in the player from Arsenal and will that be decisive in him ending up at the Emirates?

It would appear that West Ham have agreed 95% of the deal with Nice, but the sticking point remains the scheduling of the transfer payments.  It has been alleged that Nice have some debt problems and they need a greater % of cash up front to enable to to address these.  That would certainly explain Nice’s negotiating position.

I am aware of Reny’s reputation second hand.  He may well be the next Henry, his goal to game ration last season was certainly good.  In Cole, Nouble, Piquionne and (to a lesser extent) McCarthy we have a broadly similarly type of player.   Strong players that can lead the line well and chip in with their share of goals.  What we are missing is a pacy, penalty box,  goal poacher to play off them.  We have youngsters in Hines and Sears that could potentially play that role, but both players, in different ways, have still to prove themselves.  So bringing in Remy could prove to be an excellent move.

At the end of the day, whether we fans want the player or not, he is obviously highly rated by the Hammers management.   So, if they want him, they should back their judgement and make the deal happen.  One gets rather weary of the club being continually linked with players, only for the deals to fail to materialise.

On thing is certain, if Remy joins Arsenal or Liverpool and proves a major success, there will be bitter recriminations amongst our fans that we failed to land the player when the club were clearly in pole position.   Regrets, are to be avoided as much in football as in life, in general, so make the deal happen!  Who knows, it could be a season defining signing, a bit like Frankie McAvennie in 1985-86!

Ok, not likely I know, but I can dream can I not!!!!   And if we do miss Remy, how about gazumping the deal for Eduardo!  He has to be worth a punt at c.£5m and Upton Park must be preferable to the prospects of playing football in the depths of a Ukrainian winter?  Failing that, we could rectify the mistake of failing to sign Tuncay from Middlesboro and rescue him from his current footballing exile at Stoke City!  Any alternative suggestions for pacy striker transfer targets?

We have offered Nice £13Milloin to try and push Liverpool and the "other major club" out! Also I think the extra cash is to try and sweeten the deal and convice them to take installments although we have apparently offered them the majority (which could be any amount) of the fee up front.

  2. MattRyan says:

Iain, I'm sure I speak for the majority of the members here in asking this but can you pleeeeeease do what you, yourself suggested and put the thumbs up/down feature to a debate and vote?

  3. So whats the latest on Ben Haim. I read his groin is at question. We need to improve our back four, as well as a playmaker in the middle.

    • MattRyan says:

It was made up rubbish mate! His groin is fine but he wants more money so I say take it or leave it

      • Very strange that the Jewish paper which originally reported the failed medical has now withdrawn the story. If he is haggling over a few quid rather than grabbing the chance to play in the Premiership we are best off without him

  4. If the latest Daily Mail report is to be believed G and S are serious and maybe, just maybe, Remy is on his way

  5. Really hope we get Remy looks a real good player, even if it is only for a short amount of time like some reports say, not too sure about ben haim seems like he's too money orientated and would just upset the dressing room too often!! Hitzlsperger looks a real good player see him at the peterborough match loves too pass and move and gets into real good positions off the ball, roll on 7th august to hopefully see remy in the claret and blue

  6. Like most, I hope we sign Remy. Looks (from the footage I have seen) to be very strong, quick, good with both feet and a good finisher.

A report suggests Francois Clerc from Lyon too, would like him too, solid full back meaning we can push Faubert forward onto the wing. But the report is only from one of the small time websites so won't read too much into it.

I am hoping we sign a centre back soon, whether it be Ben Haim or not, we need one more experienced player to play there. I would have taken Sol Campbell on a free and play him with Da Costa or Tomkins.

    Should be another interesting week!!

what's the point of signing a player that doesn't want to come unless he has to.
Give Hines the job when fit,had enough of all these mercs!!!

    • AussieGraham says:

How do you know, newspapers print so much rubbish none of it true, rarely.

    • Jolly says:

Chris – Hines is a great prospect but no more than that. He could do a job for a middle to lower PL team but if we aspire to be more than this then we need to buy better players. Every one talks about how well hines did at the start of the season – indeed he was excellent against Liverpool BUT my abiding memory of that game is of Hines hitting the post when he SHOULD have scored.

      • chrischris says:

Jolly that's harsh on your own youngsters, players become better with more game time (in their correct positions) they don't just become 20 goals a season strikers overnight.
The leap from prospect to finished article means minutes on the pitch.
        sorry cant agree mate.

    Good suggestions SJ.

Zavion Hines is the future of our club….this guy is something special!

He needs to be used wisely over the next couple of years but I have no doubt that he will eventually become prolific.

Sears scored that one goal against Blackburn and gets praised for his commitment But Hines caused the Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa defence real problems.

If we groom him correctly we could be reap huge rewards in a few years!

    • Salesh says:

      You are right.

He caused huge problems against liverpool, arse and villa with his dribbling and pace. Something that was lacking for most of our players last season.

He could be as good as tevez one day.

Sears seems done for me. Didnt live up to the potential. He had nermous chances to shine and all he has to show is 1 goal. Most times he was non-existent. Also didnt do too well in the championship on loan.

  10. Craig Bellamy.

Always loved seeing him play, and I still believe he is in the top 5 strikers in the Premiership.

Remy would do nicely though, it is good to see our club aiming for top class athletes and competing witht the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

All we need now is a decent, experienced and passionate defender who can organise the defence! It will be hard to find someone with all those qualities but it will be interesting to find out what the club can come up with..

  11. Raul is on a free and wants a move to England
    Thoughts on this people?

  12. Braderz says:

If we are to believe the reports this morning, Remy is on his way to Upton Park, we have increased our offer up to £13m with most being paid up front, some are saying Arsenal will try and hi-jack the move and do this by selling Eduardo to enable further funds to buy the player, i hope this is wrong and that Arsenal aren't in the race for him, BUT, we are currently the only offer on the table for him, Nice are happy with the offer and the stumbling block of transfer payments looks t ohave now been resolved so hurry up G&S and get him down at Upton Park and into a Claret and Blue shirt. IF not, then like someone else suggested, lets hi-jack Eduardo, would love him at Upton Park, bid £8m and get him down here. Come on Sullivan and Gold, if you are serious about sucess for the future of our club, then get 1 more striker in, a cb and a right back then job done!

  13. AussieGraham says:

I reckon the Nice chairman has forced the highest and best bid out of West Ham and really Lyon pulled out as did Bordeaux and both said we had put a great offer by 5 million more than they both valued Remy at and he has played us like a fiddle. The likes of the Spud,Liverpool and Arsenal normally just go bang we have signed him currently with us it is a combination of a circus and the theatre with the end result being that he has always been ours but on better terms and conditions to Nice, the art of negotiation!

  14. if g&s are really willing to pay £13 mil for remy then fair play to them, but if the deal is taking so long why not look else where. £13 mil will get u a good striker anywhere.

Eduardo (arsenal) Salomon Kalou (chelsea) Yakubo (everton) Craig Bellamy (man city) Tuncay (stoke) Roman Pavlyuchenko, Robbie Keane (spurs) Hugo Rodallega (wigan)

there just some of the strikers proven in the prem that i'm sure we could get and probabley less than the £13 mil.
i'd love to try sign Pavlyuchenko or Rodallega even try throw in upson with the yids

  15. if g&s are really willing to pay £13 mil for remy then fair play to them, but if the deal is not done by the weekend look else where Hugo Rodallega or Roman Pavlyuchenko would be very good signings and proven in the prem and we could even throw in upson with the yids.

  16. Jolly says:

Great post SJ – i think you are bang on the money! Get the deal done and we may have a half decent season to look forward to.
If the deal does fall through then Eduardo is a defo NO NO – 27, never recovered from injury and even when fit, never completed a full season.
I think Matt Derbyshire would be a better bet – he never got a fair look in at Blackburn, scored goals for fun when coming off the bench, is still young and could be available for as little as £4-5m.

  17. is anyone else having problems posting messages?????

y not try sign roman pavlyuchenko or hugo rodallega if the remy deal s taking so long.

  18. chrischris says:

Sorry guys,Remy's an expensive gamble, rather spend 13mil on a defence.
we have Cole Hines Diamanti LBM Nouble Barrera Piquonne Hitzsperger parker and collison coming back, all these can score.
our defence on the other hand is SHOCKING!!!!!!!!

  19. Razor says:

Spot on sj and jolly and ads could not put it better there is no one out there to touch a 23year old remy or naymar now looks like going to chelsea direct but even if we get him for two years he has to perform to move on to that arsenal or chelsea or man city and we collect nice profit to rd invest and imagine players actually wanting to come here because we have class not spectors and crap playing for us as grant knows this game for sure remember his worked with both ends of the table and I think the hines and edgars tommos will then be brought in when ready I really think sj you can see grants telling sully what to do not the other way round like zola times as much as I liked him obviously still learning himself but got good feelings for this season and will apologise if sully puts his money where his mouth is remembering he can also get back cash with sales of upson headless chicken even noble as colly back in new year and better player
