Pompey away the writing was on the wall and we have got a quantity of players over quality.
The problem i see is the luck of width in midfield. The way i see it is that hes playing 4 CM's. All right footed. All who like to cut in. When stanislas comes on we look 100% more lively. For me he has to start every game. He is the only chance of getting goals.
I would also like to give a big ups to Fabuert . Another strong preformance. He has really came a long way since his debut.
Yes Salesh. I think that is the problem at home too. We have no width as exactly, we have 4 CM's playing there.
I wouldn't start with Stanislas though. I don't think he is very good and has not showed anything for us.Stanislas is a right footer who gets put on the left. This is no good.
I would play Faubert right midfield. He was a right midfielder when we bought him and was brilliant going forward yesterday. I would also put spector at right back. His last couple of performances deserve that. Ilunga is fit now to replace him at left back.
Diamanti is our only left-footed attacking player. He must start on the left. He could put lots of lovely left footed balls in.
I agree but the chances of Zola playing fabuert and diamanti in the same midfield are zero to one.
Only times i agree with zola's tactics are when we play on the road against a big club, where 4 CM's is needed to try and steal point. But when he plays it at home and against lessor teams questions have to be asked.
Portsmouth
Blackburn
Burnley
Out of these recent games we should have 9 points on the board. We got 2.
Now everyone on here knows that we must win our next 2 games. They are both must wins- we can't pick up any more draws in these home games. But what's to say we won't get another loss on Wednesday. We were absolutely abject yesterday.
No can be no bigger criticism than to say we lack commitment and purpose.
All our home games are "winnable" but as we know from our last performances, nothing is for certain. What is certain is from our Away games, we won't get any points.
Upton Park Games:
Birmingham
Hull
Bolton
Wolves
Stoke
Sunderland
Wigan
Man City
Away:
Man Utd
Chelsea
Arsenal
Everton
Liverpool
Fulham
What is certain, is that we can't keep saying, we were happy with the performance, and we were unlucky. We got what we deserved yesterday.
Has our manager got the skills required to help lift the team to victory against Brum?simple we win the signs are good, we lose what do the powers that be do to rectify the dire situation? The next game after wednesday is a week and a half away but how on earth can the team be motivated to win?every team is on a roll apart from us and Pompey,I cannot see a victory,if we go 1-0 down we always lose confidence the hope and fight disappear, how does this team win, how?
A 451 is a more containing compact and solid formation. It suits our squad of players as we don't have much width at all.
The problem with this formation though is that at home, where we need to get wins, we must play 442. This is a far more attacking formation, and one which should provide more chances for the front two.
But as we know, if you play a 442, you must play with wingers. The least we should do is to play with balance.
From now on we MUST provide the front two with more crosses and get behind defenses more.
Here is my team for wednesday.
Green
Spector
Tomkins
Upson
Ilunga
Faubert
Behrami
Parker (captain)
Diamanti
Ilan
Cole
This team has balance. On the flanks Spector is right footed as is Faubert. Ilunga is left footed as is Diamanti. Also, we know that Diamanti can put in a wonderful cross as can Faubert, who produced a couple of the best crosses you will ever see yesterday. Both these players can go past defenders too.
This formation would also serve to 'rest ' our out of form or disinterested players. Collison, Noble were woeful yesterday and whilst I think Collison is a wonderful player, he is just too off form. Noble however has not played consistently well for us for over a year now, maybe more. Behrami had a very poor game yesterday too but he is too good a player to drop, and has showed lots of commitment and energy since coming to the club. With a 442 we need tigers in the centre, who snap into tackles, and I can't think of a better pairing than Parker and Behrami.
I would love to drop Upson, who was the worst of the lot yesterday. His commitment was pathetic. However, we just do not have another replacement here so he has to continue. I would however take the armband off him now. Parker who has showed everything that we need to get us clear of relegation has been wonderful. He is our leader out there and we need to reward him with the armband.
Here's a date. October 31st. The last time Burnley won a game.
We MUST shake up the team.
Look at this for a bench. If we need reinforcements we have them on the bench.
Stech
Da Costa
Noble
Collison
Mido
Dyer
Kovac
I think this team has balance and more bite. NO MORE DRAWS ZOLA
Andy…I wouldn't start moving Faubert Into another position this late in the season, hes just got the hang of fullback I would keep him there, althou I don't rate him much.
you said to me a few days ago,you were worried about Diamanti left midfied,he is the only person who can do a job there unless you play him left of 433.
I went yesterday the lack of pace against in our side is terrible, next year we must add more black players to the squad, who are generally strong and quick.
Also Noble was a joke much to slow.
I agree it's not ideal for him but at least he is left footed. I would put Collison there normally but he is seriously out of form. Also by putting Faubert at right midfield we would be able to put Behrami in centre Midfield which is his natural position.
My concern is that we would be less solid, but I also think we would be far more potent going forward.
I think you have to accept now that Faubert is playing brilliantly and was our best player yesterday. His crosses into the box were superb. Almost impossible to defend. This is what we need as we now have a fox in the box in McCarthy, something we haven't had all season
Something we all agree on is we must win our next 2 home games

I have just watched Zola's interview on whufc and he said that he thinks Benni will be okay for Wednesday, I think we need to play all 3 in the game, maybe 2 as subs and one straight in but the two as subs will need to come on early second half if we are playing crap. If we survive this season, we need to get rid of Upson and others who don't want to be here early in the summer market and get in better players and thicken up or deffence. Because going forward yesterday we looked very dangerous but we looked weak at the back, them two goals could have easily been avoided but they weren't. We must convert all our chances into goals because it simply isn't good ebnough anymore just to play well and get nothing or only a point out of the game. We desperately need wins and to get a bit of a run, we need to win both of our next to games to give us confidence when we play the big 4 lot. It is going to be very tough but we have simply got to find the wins otherwise we are in deep trouble.
brad..we need to get rid of upson coz hes to slow on the turn.
can't believe the Mccarthy purchase, for the same price we could of had Moses.
another Dyer type purchase, waste of time fellas just huge.
whats going on at my club? we're in free fall,
at least the under 12's are looking good.
Dont worry folks,I can tell you now my son will walk into the team when hes 16,think inesta/scholes…thats my boy!!!!!
blowing trumpets…not arf!!!!!
chris – Faubert still poo?
Chrischris.
I think McCarthy was very dangerous yesterday. He had good composure to take it past the keeper and shoot. He hit it well enough, just 99 times out of 100 that would have gone in. Also his runs were outstanding. He timed the runs behind the defenders absolutely perfectly. Have a look at his run on to the pass by Parker, it was perfect.
I think he will prove a very good signing. He was very dangerous and unfortunately had to come off. Apparently he will be OK for Wednesday now which is a big plus.
I agree though that we should have bought Moses.
andy you got to flippin joking!!!!!!! why was all the people around shouting run you fat —-!!!!!! andy,,, he went round the keeper and run out of legs,i would say hes a stone over for football.
andy the run was perfect ,but you got to have the legs for the last bit.
I'm disappointed to see that so many now want Zola to go. I would rather see him stay and improve to team. Its been said that he has lost the dressing room. Personally I think he has lost two key players : Upson & Collison. I think they have already been promised moves at the end of the season and neither looked like Hammers at Burnley.
It's the first time we have played any kind of 442, and we have done it with players who have not played together, and it took a long time to get going. The 4 man midfield just did not work, but it 1st time out and Noble and Behrami seemed to do nothing useful for much of the game. Despite that we made chances galore and Benni should have buried the first one and but for the woodwork Stan would have put the free kick straight in.
I still have faith that we can stay up, when we got going we were fairly good. we must sort out the Midfield. I also agree that Zola should try the orthodox, lefties on the left, and create more width and more crosses.
Upson needs to decide whether he is a Hammer or not. If he can't make up his mind Zola should make it up for him and show him how life in the reserves looks – which will definitely sink his chances of South Africa. That goes for Collison too.
Nobody goes missing for the rest of the season – we stay up. Any more of that kind of absent mindedness – we go down.
we need to win every home game,no chance.
dont blame collison, hes played on the left wing.
Morning Tony_E
I agree we need more width. I also agree that it is a little premature for people to be calling for Zola to leave. I still believe he can be a very good manager for us. We just need to stay up. I was happy with the team he put out yesterday and it should have been more than enough to win.
Upson must be sold in the summer. Hopefully Upson realizes that although he doesn't want to play for West Ham he must play a lot better and show more commitment, otherwise he will be on the plane. That would be good for both the club and for him. He will go to the World cup and we will get a better price for him.
You know we are all saying we must win our next 2 games. Well, have a look at these home fixtures
Birmingham
Hull
Bolton
Wolves
Stoke
Sunderland
Wigan
Man City
Even if we win 7 out of these 8 games, we would end up on 42 points. That is 2 less than the tally we were relegated with last time round. This surely highlights the seriousness of our position. We can't win our next 2 home games….we MUST win our next 7 home games at least. Winning 7 out of 8 home games is a big ask for Manchester United. We are not Manchester United.
As for the Away games. Forget it. We will be lucky to pick up one draw from these fixtures. That would be away to Fulham.
Oh dear. That performance yesterday really did put us in the poo didn't it?
Morning Andy.
It didn't help did it?
I look at the table though, and I see a lot of teams around us who haven't been able to escape the mire. I don't know off the top of my head a season recently that has been so tight at the bottom. I think it is 9 points between 10th & 17th. We have had terrible luck with injuries, but we have a side which is mostly fit now. Once they are used to playing together, I think they should be mid table side without too much trouble.
Mido, Ilan adn McCarthy still haven't had a lot of football, but yesterday they were in all the right places. Had they been match fit, how many would we have buried yesterday, and how different would this thread have looked this morning?
We're in trouble for sure, and some of it is down to Zola's lack of managerial experience. But some of it is down to unsettled players not pulling their weight, some of it is down to injuries, and some of it is down to lapses of judgement from the younger players. To sack Zola now would be a disaster in my mind, to bring back Curbs even worse.
We lost, but the hour of the game I saw was entertaining football. Never should we go back to playing how we did under Curbs.
wish we had got onouha on loan he is a very good right back who is fast and gets farward and i realy wont to see faubert right wing but it cant happen when we have no cover at right back.
we can still get out of this but are home form is key we need to play each match till the end like a cup final.and not leave it till the final 2 or 3 games.
remember this season we have got draws at Arsenal and Chelsea so ther is no game we cant get at least a draw from. We can get out of this. we have to.
Come on the hammers
hand on hart who thinks we are guna stay up?
i realy dont know.
Me
I'm still not sure that even if we win most of our home games we will stay up. People have to remember that the teams around us are winning and picking up points. We are not and don't look like doing it. Zola Out. You are the worst manager I've seen in ages. Duxbury's summer of selling Collins and Neill has come home to roost.
All those that didn't want to cash in on Berhami for 15 million in January, might be having a re-think?
I am with you on that one Devo,
How many if we had the money for replacements would you keep now, we agreed on 8 last time as being first 11 I'am down to 6
Fabuert
Cole
Parker
Tomkins
Collison (in the middle)
Franco
PS. What are the odds on chrischris Hansen being a fat lump himself?
Birmingham?
Green
Behrami
Upson
Tomkins
Spector
Faubert
Parker
Kovac
Stanislas
Cole
Mido
I wouldnt even waste a seat for Noble on the bench
Pop – same as mine but with Spector Rb and Daprela LB.
I tell you guys what I think is scary, I still think Zola genuinely believes we are going to qualify for Europe! He is so naive and tactically inept its frightening. Hopefully Birmingham will beat Wolves. We desperately must beat Brum on Wednesday as otherwise I believe we are finished.
