This morning, Scott Duxbury resigned his post as Managing Director of West Ham. The following statement has been released on the cllub website.
West Ham United have today announced the resignation of chief executive
Scott Duxbury. Duxbury said: “I am proud of my work at West Ham United but
feel the time is right for me to pursue other opportunities. “I wish Mr
Sullivan, Mr Gold and Karren great success in driving this wonderful
football club forward, and I know under their stewardship the club will
prosper. Thank you to all the supporters who have kept faith with the club
through good and bad times.” Vice-chairman Karren Brady said: “We thank
Scott for his valued contribution and wish him every success in the future.”
I know Scott arouses strong emotions on this site, but I for one wish him well for the future. Whatever people think of some of his decisions, he has kept the show on the road since the Icelandic owners’ finances hit the buffers. He also instituted a much more open regime at Upton Park, his interview with this blog in the summer being a good example.
Perhaps the biggest fear I have over his departure is that it will destabilise Gianfranco Zola, who may now feel somewhat isolated. Zola was very much Duxbury’s appointment and the two have been very close, I understand. I hope the new owners have squared Zola on this, otherwise there may be unfortunate consequences. On the plus side, it seems that Zola and the new owners have got off to a good start in their relationship. I just hope this decision doesn’t have an adverse impact on that.

I am convinced that Zola and Clarke are key to our future in two key areas … bringing on young players (e.g. improvements by Noble and Tomkins and big strides forward by Cole) and the purchase of established players close to their peak or at their peak … not has-beens like RVN or the Eiderdown … so I hope the new owners are of that opinion and continue to keep faith with them.
A Spoonful of Sugar makes the medicine go down (or should that read Karren Brady). With the takeover barely 2wks old MS Brady has taken up her mentors role as Head Apprentice & taken over the "YOUR'E FIRED" stance.
Since her arrival former players & icons of Tony Gale & Tony Cottee as ambassadors have left their positions in the club. Now Scott Duxbury has resigned moving on to pastures new. Tony Gale said on SSN this morning that this is a cost cutting exercise & more heads will role as Ms Brady becomes the Clubs Financial Doctor. Looking now into the medical area of the club, more employees will be looking to combine roles plus a reduction in wages or leave. As they say things will become worse before they get better & her swift action will not go down well with everyone. However the footballing side will not be affected.
With the possibility of Mido now coming on loan & other players in the pipeline & less than 3days left, it is good times ahead for THE HAMMERS/IRONS or whatever you wish to call WEST HAM UNITED!!!LOL!
Can't say the prospect of Mido excites me in the slightest Fishy. I reckon that
Macdonald from Celtic is about the best that we are being linked with at the moment and I doubt he will set the Prem alight.
the Mido story is quite depressing, Macdonald is ok but he's only championship IMO. Benjani looks to be going to the Makems, EG off to the filth (good news) McCarthy..who knows?!?! Beattie.. ok but nowt special and has had he's 15 mins..RVN…as if that was gonna happen, Hunntelarr…mmmm AC or WHU?? behave. God the list goes on and on and on…. as the geordie announcer on BB says….. 'you decide'
As a self confessed hater of Mr Spin himself i'm not gonna deny i wont lose any sleep on he's departure however i will be magnanimous and thank the man for weathering the storm over the last 6 months and keeping the wolves from the door…however i have a long memory and the tevez saga killed it for me and the spin and lies. As long as soppy drawers doesn't go anywhere near the players, the manager, upsets the fans or changes our name she can carry on. oh and the pessimst in me thinks we're gonna struggle to sign anyone.
Exactly Digger.
He was involved in the Tevez saga. Best rid I say.
Palermo are now looking at Behrami for the summer , if you believe what you read!!
the best thing to come out of Palermo…the plane home. Flatten the place.
He was pushed, obviously! However, he did need to be pushed, we could not deal with anymore of his wheeling and dealings. Thanks for keeping us going but that is as far as it goes. By cutting down on worthless expenditure, he could have done better. So in a way he got us some way into this. So my thanks are reserved.
Anyway, lets see what Karren Brady the Olympian brings to the club. Nothing outlandish, just keep it simple but workable and affordable please.
This was always going to happen. It was always when and not if. Zola knew it ws coming too, so I don't have any concerns with how Zola and Clarke feel towards it.
I wonder if Nani is going too. I think it is extremely likely.
Personally I would like to retain him- at least work with him in some capacity- freelance perhaps?
The high profile screw-up was Savio, but we have to look at the context of that transfer. West ham were under terrible pressure to bring a player in, in a few days, due to Harry Redknapp destabilizing Bellamy. As we know Bellamy left to Man City but that was all started by "Arry"
In the end it wasn't too bad as we recouped a lot of the money and the contract was set-up in a way that we would only pay a large part of the money once he played a certain number of game, and international appearances etc.
The successes are Diamanti, Behrami, Kovac(now looking an astute signing after a terrible start with us) Daprela, Franco and Illunga.
Also look at the players that he has identified, and tried to bring in – Balotelli and Chamakh to name just two. We came close with both and now they are widely believed to be two huge players for the future.
Now think how much money we have spent on these transfers.
£5Million for Behrami, £2 Million for Illunga, Kovac(undisclosed- thought to be in region of £1.5-£2M). Franco £0M, Daprela (undisclosed) not thought to be more than £0.5Million) Diamanti £6M
now Behrami £15Million
Franco – unchanged
Illunga – £7 Million
Daprela – unchanged
Kovac – £3 Million
Diamanti -£7 Million
This is a conservative estimate but this makes a profit of £17million for these 5 players. I put no value of young Daprela who has only played once for us but he looks a fantastic player- in a year or two that figure will shoot up. Franco's price has remained the same due to his age, but his signing has been hugely significant for us this season. I mean, where did they Nani rake him up from?
I am concerned that we will sack Nani – I think he makes great business for the club and has unearthed real gems in Behrami, Diamanti, Illunga and Daprela. It remains to be seen if he had any influence with regard to bringing in Young Nouble too. He could prove to be a fabulous signing.
Please let's retain this man. £15 million pound in profit has to be good business. Why don't we mention his successes more instead of the failures such as Savio and Jimenez. Jimenez was on a loan – so no worry there. Also Savio – the money was recouped with Da Costa coming in as cover.
Sorry Andy, As said above SD is but one of the first financial casualties, Nani will leave in the next round as the club look to reduce costs!
Well I'm very happy that we are cutting costs. Im glad Duxbury has gone. We shouldn't be paying some of these people the wages we are.
And I love Tony Gale and Cottee but why were we paying them £40K in wages. They are still hammers fans, they still speak fondly of the club, they have other jobs – I don't see what their role was. Ambassadors?
They were and always will be ambassadors for the club. The whole title was ridiculous – Trevor Brooking, Billy bonds, Phil Parkes, Geoff Hurst are ambassadors for the club – they speak with great passion and fondness about the club at every opportunity – be they don't get paid to do so.
Exactly, However their financial role has gone and we move on down the list.
Dux did a great job at mopping up the mess and of course getting GFZ and Clarke. Its over to G&S now to prove themselves and hopefully realise that Zola can be a great manager given a little time and support. At the present time I think the club are taking new players out of his hands, although is that not what Nani was doing anyway. This is down to the extreme situation we are in rather than not listening to Zola's opinion. This is where loaning a player would be better so Zola can get his players in the summer. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing and long term G&S will work really closely with Zola and Clarke.
Thats my feeling Too, Loan players now & frees if we are able to get them & a complete overhaul in the summer as David Sullivan said at takover interview.
Hi Fishy your right Sullivan did say this, I guess thats why Eidur would have been ideal for us in respect that he has quality but was a loan deal. Its looking quite remote that we are going to get anyone before the deadline. I do think injury permitting that Cole, Franco and one other (perhaps Benni) would be enough to get us through the season. It just shows you what a massive game it is against Blackburn this weekend.
I have a feeling that the real truth about the Tevez affair and whatever negotiations ttok place with Kia Joorabcien about the ownership of the the players and the club will soon come to light.
Duxbury has done a good job recently, but I think he may well have acted incredibly poorly over this previous matter. Either way, with Brady in harness, he had no role at the club going forward. It's a sensible business decision for both parties.
Now we wait to see what will becom of Nani. I have no fear for Zola, because the players support him to the hilt and no chairman will give up a manager of Zola's talent while he holds such respect in the dressing room. Ask yourself: If you were a manager – would you want to try to take on Zola's job if the board fired him very much against the wishes of his players?
Zola's job is safe and so is Clarke's. Don't worry about it.
Let the Mirror and the Mail say what they want. At last we are getting rid of unnecessary expense.
Not convinced by those arguments Andy.
Behrami, sure. Big hit, huge success.
Diamanti £7m, Illunga £7m – says who? Where's your evidence? I'd bite anyone's hand off for offers anywhere near that for either, personally.
Franco and Daprela are successes? Really? Highly debatable.
Nani will be gone I reckon. Brady is clearly going for a new broom seeps clear approach. Personally, she has my backing. a clear message need to be sent from top to bottom that we have a moral and a financial responsibility to be sustainable.
Nani is tainted by the excesses of the previous regime and, as such, his position is arguably untennable.
HI Headmaster
Well, Behrami is being touted for £15 Million – that is 10 million profit there.
Illunga was brought in for £2million…ish. Last season he was our best player- a real success. Brilliant. He has struggled this season since coming back from injury but remember – Liverpool were after him before we signed him – it was alleged they were willing to pay – £7million. That figure is also what they paid for Dossena!!!!
Also, we bought Diamanti for £6 million. He is now exposed to the Premiership and has improved game after game. He is extremely skilful and passionate, and I think after the rest of this season and a pre-season with us under his belt he could be a star for us.
I'm sorry but if the likes of Younes Kaboul at Portsmouth are commanding fees of £10million then why wouldn't Diamanti get that at West Ham.
Franco also has been a very astute buy. He has done extremely well for us considering he was an unknown and signed on a free. We have actually relied on him at times since Cole has been out- we would definitely be in the bottom three right now without Franco at the club.
Daprela looks a wonderful prospect. within a year he will be in the team for sure. His performance against Arsenal in the FA cup was excellent as he is only 17.
I think these are all big successes
They are sweeping out the clutter that is costing the club dearly. We need to cut money
I wouldn't get rid of Nani though. That would be a huge mistake. He has made massive money for west ham in his deals for the club.
Andy, I think that his problem is that he seems to be limited to the Italian market. We need to cast out net wider to identify players and he doesn't seem to have the contacts. He is also, reportedly, on £1m per year!
I think it was fairly obvious that Brady's arrival made his role untenable – I expect Nani to be the next casualty.
Without any inside information at our disposal, it is pure conjecture whether he did a good or bad job for the club, I suspect it was somewhere between the two.
I don't think that any of us can comprehend how difficult it must have been to fulfill his role given the constraints of the banks in the last year and it would appear that he may have played a significant role in keeping the club from administration – for that we must be thankful.
I believe that a line should be drawn under the whole Icelandic affair and that the club should start afresh under the new regime.
I'm sure Duxbury had the club's best interests at heart, even if mistakes were made and I wish him well.
Nobody's perfect Devo & I agree with you Duxbury did a good job for the club in difficult times keeping the club afloat. Whatever anyone said on here about the man, I would much rather be in his shoes at West Ham than Peter Storries & Avram Grant at Portsmouth!!!! LOL!
Gianfanco & Steve Clarke have the complete backing of Double D, as have the players. This was shown last week when they went to the training ground, to reassure all concerned over the uncertainty that had crept into the squad over the takeover. As for NANI's future his appearance was conspicuous by his absense.
One question that has arisen over finances is Calum Davenports wages suspended by the club, over his pending court case. I understand (Express: KB leaves a bitter pill) that the PFA has been in touch with the PL to confirm whether this is legal or not.
INTERESTING TIMES!!!
I think that is going too far. I accept that Calum D is at best a fringe player now, but what sort of message does this send out to the other players & staff? Maybe I'm being naive, but it is hardly going to instil a warm fuzzy, good to belong, sort of feeling is it? On reflection I probably am naive, as aren't most players just a bunch of mercenaries anyway?
The reports are now that Davenport was far from an entirely innocent victim in the whole affair. If this is the case and the club feels that he is unable to play because of his involvement in a criminal action at his own instigation, then I think it sends exactly the right message to the younger players about their conduct away from matchday and the training ground.
What I expect though, is that the PFA will cause all sorts of trouble and he will lose 2 weeks money for misconduct. The only possible action might then be to cancel his contract on the grounds that the injuries were not football related and sustained in pursuits which were potentially criminal, (i.e. he was instigating an assault and the injuries were sustained as a direct result of that action). That way though, most likely it becomes a civil law matter (breach of contract) and will have to be settled through the courts not the FA.
When (& if) he is found to be guilty, then I completely agree that he should not be paid, but a fundamental principle of the law is that you are innocent until proven guilty. I appreciate that by then he will have been paid a small fortune whilst unable to play, but to suspend pay now, when the trial is in progress just seems crazy. I suppose the club will say it only became apparent during the trial that there is a possibility of contractual wrongdoing. It just seems petty and mean minded. Not that 20 grand a week can be called petty !
In principle I agree, innocent until proven guilty. However, there is nothing to stop them from mounting an internal disciplinary proceedure which could reach the decision that his conduct had effectively breached his contract. They will wait until the case is heard before making any public move so as not to predjudice the hearing.
Civil law operates on the balance of probability, criminal law beyond reasonable doubt. It is quite possible that he could be found innocent of assault but still be contractually liable for his own inability to play through his behaviour on the night in question.
I imagine he has come clean to the club over the truth of the matter anyway as to withold the information would not be in his best interests in the long run. If they have decided to withold wages, they must have a good reason to do this, and if challenged they will have the resources to extend back pay to rectify any unfairness.
The club is cash strapped. It would be harder to pay the money now and recoup it later than to put it aside and pay it if that became apropriate.
Yes, I agree they are probably looking at a contractual breach of contract, to be pursued after the criminal proceedings are settled. I just cannot help feeling they should have waited until the end of the current trial before suspending pay. Accepting we are cash strapped and it is harder to get iot back than not pay it, it still looks mean minded & petty. How much longer would they have had to wait anyway, a couple of weeks? I suppose after all the bad publicity we have had over the last few years, this hardly makes the bottom of the scale!
Lets face we are not signing anyone(maybe Benni),so lets just get on with it.
Its cole diamanti nouble sears Franco and Benni fighting for 2 spots.
I personally would of liked a rightback and center half(upsons legs are going)
No one wants to come so stuffff!!!!!! em will fight with what we've got, starting against Blackburn COYI!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said mate, Benni will do fine. Good competition for places up top then as Nouble looks brilliant, as for Dux i wish him the best for the future and thank him for his hard work for our club.
Please excuse my language, and if I could think of a better way to put this, I would be very happy, but we are sounding more like Leeds & /or (sorry!) millwall (ugh, wash my mouth out!) fans every day! No one loves us & we don't care!
spot on ChrisChris, im just hoping Franco comes back soon, love the fella, Hines out for the season is a sad read.
Benni McCarthy Latest:
West Ham continue to be linked with a number of players with little more than three days of the January transfer window remaining.
With Benni McCarthy set to be announced as a new signing imminently the Irons have already made their first capture of the window – although further players could follow before Monday’s 5pm deadline.
McCarthy – who met supporters at the Boleyn pub yesterday confirmed that a deal had been struck and that he will wear the number 17 shirt vacated by Luis Jimenez, who has returned to Italy.
Benjani now in talks with Sunderland over a move!!
As for the delay in Benni McCarthy move Big Sam says West Ham have some ironing to do over the deal in the 24/48hrs before it is completed.
I'm sorry to see Dux go, but I can't believe it is a surprise to anyone. The writing was on the wall in big bold letters as soon as Brady Olympic was appointed. The only surprise might be if we don't see a claim for constructive dismissal follow in due course. I hope not but in his shoes wouldn't you?
Although I am genuinely sorry to see him go, he did lose a few points over what he told Iain when he was interviewed. Unless I'm mistaken didn't he say that although the accounts are horrendous, the club is now self sustaining or words to that effect? Forward selling of season ticket income and sponsorship money, is hardly self sustaining; it is spending income you haven't yet received. If that was necessary to keep us going then good on him for doing it. I just wish he hadn't been so economical with the truth, although again maybe it was necessary to put that word out to try and stop some of the damaging press?
Anyway, I for one wish him well. What price he ends up at Citeh where the current CEO is rumoured to be on very dodgy ground?
I should imagine Fat Sam just doen't want Benni McCarthy scoring against them tommorow so rather than say so he's stalling Fishy.
Have we signed anybody though? Is Benni coming, why have we looked at Mido & Beattie, with all due respects to him I think in a few game and a goal under his belt Nouble would be just as good a prospect, the lad just needs a bit of confidence. Same as Mido? What does he give that either Stanislas or Hines can do on his day?
As for Duxbery, there's no smoke without fire and I think he's part of the reason we're in this mess now and his definately not pert of the solution, as is alwya said, it's a results business and the results form his time have been by and large very poor.
Benni has signed mate and will wear the number 17 which Jimenez used to wear, they are just overcoming a few little issus and we expect it to be officialy announced in the next 48 hours, But Benni is our player. So i think we will hear more soon.
dj, No one in the chicken run yet. WHO we have in the frame???
Benni waiting on transfer permit.
Mido brings one thing only : experience. I would imagine you might be right about Benni McCarthy, Fat Sam dosn't want to be embarrassed at the weekend
Portsmouth miss another payday according to SSN reports
How long before Dux puts in a constructive dismissal claim?
He resigned Tim so no problem in that quarter
I hope you're right, but I think it is likely. Curbishley resigned but then stuck in a claim for constructive dismissal. See my earlier post.
That's the entire point of the term 'Constructive Dismissal' Fishy : that an employee is treated in such a manner that they were no longer in a position to continue in their employment through no fault of their own.
I don't think Dux will go down that route though. He wants to work again. I'm not sure about Curbishley, though with the financial situation the club was in it makes his claim against us appear even more disgusting.
I am in agreement with most of the comments, he is (was) our legal council and he made a mess with anything he touched in that area.
I feel he was trying very hard in diffficult circumstances to somehow to make up for these errors.
He seems a genuine bloke and wish him well as I don’t usually bare grudges.
I'm rather nonplussed about Duxbury going. It's only in recent years – as the internet has seemed to have over-taken peoples lives – that we now seem to be interested in CEO's but does it really make any difference?
Like us all he had his faults but I like to think that he did his best for us through some very troubled times. We are still in the top flight and although very much in debt we have gone the way of a lot of others in the same situation, due in no small part, I reckon, to Scott Duxbury
Hi All,
Off topic but today I am feeling a little let down by West Ham.
Where are all these new signings and where did Spurs get all this money from??
Over the past 2 weeks we have been linked to at least 50 people and everytime I look at SSN or Newsnow that player has gone or is going to another team, namely Spurs.
I think the Benni deal is done but will not be completed until 16.45 on Satrday once the Blackburn game is over.
As for anyone else coming we will have to see.
We don't want no others!!!!!! no one wants to come so stuff em all!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets see how Diamanti plays floating behind cole,he scores when hes in and around the box, lets not judge him on having to beat 2 people off the right wing.
We can play 2 big lumps up front in Nouble and Cole if needed, people might say its not a great balance, any one see what sidibe and fuller done to Arsenal!!!COYI
I think you are right, Benni deal is done but Sam is stalling.
The problem the club face is that there just aren't the players out there to sign. Gudjohnson would have been a desperation purchase really, RVN just a vanity buy.
Better that we spend what little money we have wisely and show the new ownership a little patience. Zola will get us throught this season somehow with whatever resources he has.
Tony I think there are plenty of class players out there across Europe but as Zola is new to managment he does not have a large scouting network behind him like Wenger etc…
Yeah, I see your point Chris and I guess that's where Nani comes in, but I didn't really explain myself very well. I was just suggesting that in the Jan window there are very few players worth having that want to move, they are either committed to their clubs or they are being shown the door for one failing or another. Picking up a bargain right now is the toughest of tasks, even for the more entrenched management teams.
Dead right Tony. Every year people get excite about the January transfer window and then very little happens. In my view it should be scrapped and just have the one window in the summer – or don't have a window at all, just let club buy and sell whenever they want.
Let down?l feel embarrassed as a fan,no decent players want to come to West Ham,especially when they're turning there nose up and going to Spurs.
Then you get in the papers that the staff have been told to turn the lights out,and half the staff are getting sacked to save money!! ,great morale boost! Same thing happened at Spurs when Sugar took over,is that were Karen Brady got her ideas?Sugar was absolutely hated by the time he sold his shares,l feel so down,l don't even feel like going to the match tomorrow.
As far as Benni coming,I'm more excited about paying my income tax bill this week..
I'm off to Burnley away next week. That should be fun!!
Try to get a grip mate. Agreed, Spurs poaching a player we wanted for 4 months was poor ethics but this PL football where dog eats dog! As GFZ says, it is disappointing that Gudjohnsen decided to play us along so GUD RIDDANCE, once and for all! Half the staff getting sacked? where did you read that? Of course there will be redundancies and cost cutting but welcome to the recession. Keep the faith and give this management team a chance but more importantly maintain your support for a team you clearly fell passionate about!
det cheer up mate least your bill wont be as big as redcaps
Nice one lol ….
On the subject of Dux I feel, like most of you, that he did a good job to keep us afloat over the past six months. However, some of the blame for the Tevez affair must fall with him as our in house lawyer. He must have known what he was doing. Thank you for everything Dux and good luck with the future but not 100% endorsement.
On another note – just read this article in the Standard – http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/foot…
Zola's comments show his usual dignity but 'honest arry' says:
But Redknapp today insisted Tottenham were blameless in their pursuit of of the Iceland interntional. He said: "Before West Ham's takeover, we were hot on the trail of Eidur.
"This is his decision. I get on well with David Sullivan and I wouldn't have wanted Eidur to fall out with Zola and Steve Clarke, but Eidur called me back and told me it was his decision. He wanted to come to Tottenham.
"I've always admired him. He can play in several positions, he gives us different options and he is a fantastic footballer."
Horrible horrible little man!!
you tell him kim….Handbags and all!!!
Kim, Isn't it funny how Harry says we were hot on the vtrail of EG, However it was not until we confirmed we were interested and on the point of signing him that they (TS) comes in.
whats happened to Owen? loan deal to us?,last time I watched him on tv he scored! legs still seem there, not like when he was 21 but still gets in the positions,we've got plenty legs in our squad!!!!!!!!!
I think west ham should take a punt on two players now.
Why not get Victor Moses from Crystal Palace and Jermaine Beckford from Leeds?
I heard today that Newcastle have made a bid in the region of £2Million. Just £2Million!
For a man of his skill and undoubted potential, I think we should jump up and take the chance. This boy can play left wing, has pace and can score great goals. Plus he is eligible for the England team. It is only because Crystal Palace's precarious financial position, and the fact that they are unable to barter too much that he is a steal. Why not come in for him.
Also, Jermaine Beckford is available. I'm sure if we made a bid of £5Million he would come.
Both English players, both with huge potential, who are doing the business right now.
The great thing about Moses is that he would allow Collison to play in his preferred, and best position, at centre midfield.
Also, If we buy Beckford, he would be a great foil for Carlton Cole. I think the two would work well together. Cole can create knock downs for Beckford. Beckford also seems to have an eye for goal. Who knows, we might end up with an Ian Wright on our hands!
I'm extremely surprised that Premiership teams have not come in for either of these boys.
We would also not have to spend big next summer as we would have our left midfield problem sorted, and also our striker situation would be sorted. We could spend summer looking at a right back, and goalkeeper.
Imagine this team until the end of the year
Green
Faubert
Tomkins
Upson
Illunga
Behrami
Parker
Collison
Moses
Cole
Beckford
Imagine this team lining up for the first time. Let's face it, it would really inspire excitement in us fans. I personally would love to see this side out
guys Faubert no way!!!!!!!!!! and we need a pacey center half in there, upson turns like the titanic these days.
Moses and beckford are worth a punt, agreed.
£7M the pair? Sold. When can they start?
beckford has singed pre contract with eveton
Speakin of 'arry (as Kim was) I can't help reaching for a bucket to watch him on SSN this afternoon, explaining what a big favour he's doing to Avram by nicking his two best players. Will this man ever get found out?
anyone know what the likelihood of him going down is due to this tax avoidance?
if he does I vote we all go on the biggest alldayer of all time to celebrate!
Headmaster the mans arwful.
Yes Headmaster. When the Inland Revenue and Customs service reveal to all the world what a naughty little tax evader he has been.
I would have thought 'Arry will be too busy filing his tax return to beat the deadline today LOL
HH, He has another 33hrs before the tax deadline & he told me he was too busy trying to arrange another deal, to bring the rest of Portsmouth team to White Hart Lane before Mondays 5pm deadline.
After that he will offer to buy P'mouth & ask HMRC for a tax rebate owed to him due to the clubs losses!Lol!
Was reading about the state of the money owned between Portsmouth and Spurs. If i read it correct it is something like this.
Porthsmouth owe spurs money
Porthsmouth sell player to spurs as they can't pay for these transfer
Spurs get a sell on clause becuase the player came from Spurs
Porthsmouth lose out and Spurs don't acutlly have to pay any money out
Harry is only buying the players as he liked them and thats why he took them to Portsmouth.
Got to love Harry!!!
hahaha, that's hilarious. 'Arry probably knew all along what would happen to Pompey so knew he could get the playrs to Spurs for next to nothing. The swine. Hope he goes down.
Sounds about right, if unable to pay players wages & outstanding transfer payments owed to other clubs.
It would be interestinmg to know how much P'mouth do owe Spurs over Harrys wheeling & dealing between both clubs!
If this is right, where is the £2m held by the PL over TV money & where is Lens over their latest instalment due???
yes headmaster
I've always been baffled how more pundits on tv don't question his past dealings and the state he leaves the clubs in.
Why has this man always been able to spend a fortune at whatever club he has been at?
I think Portsmouth fans must have such a loathing of this man. Is he really saying he is doing Portsmouth a favour?
He could have done Portsmouth a favour by not signing Utaka on £80,000 a week. The man has hardly played he is so poor.
Why does nobody question this?
Let's hope there is Karma.
Storrie needs to take a lot of the blame for the money Harry spent at Pompey. He was (is?) the CEO and, as such, would gave given the OK.
you could probably get beckford for £3m, £2m for moses = £5m not a very big gamble IMO either – good shout AH
I wish Duxbury well, he wasn't perfect but I think did a reasonably good job in unbelievably difficult times…
As for players, I'm not pushed if we get anyone else except Benni… the team and squad is more than adequate to beat all the teams we have coming to Upton Park the next few months…
Green hasn't had a great season, but is improving…
Faubert, Spector, Illunga, Daprella.. all average, but adequate for now…
Upson, Tomkins, Da Costa, Gabbidon… more than adequate for now…
Parker, Behrami, Collison, Noble, Diamanti, Kovac, Stanislas… have shown enough all season to be a match for most midfields, its just down to how they are setup by Zola…
Cole, Benni, Franco, Nouble, Sears, Hines… A good mixture, Cole and Benni would be a good pairing (i think/hope)… with Franco and Nouble backing up…
Its no top 4 squad, but its not that bad either… I think I'd much prefer to hold the additional 6 million til the summer and review it fully then…
off topic but if that Smalling fella from Fulham is worth between 10-12m ( i think thats what UTD have paid) then what is Tomkins worth!??
Smalling has played only 2 first team games
Really good thought. Tomkins is class, and will only get better. Bet if we sold him we'd only get about 4 million though… why is that!?
Smalling looks ok, but only ok.
Smalling looks an athlete in the Rio mould. Tomkins not so agile with suspect passing abilities.
I agree on Beckford, though haven't seen much of Moses.
If we could get JB for £3 million odd, it would easily be worth a gamble.
I mean, it'd be a safer bet than the whole Savio situation…
Here's hoping for a good 3 points tomorrow! IRONS!
If you read between the lines in Gianfranco's interview on tomorrows game it sounds as though Benni is currently the only signing we are going to get. Unless he is keeping shhtum over last minute deals.
lets hope there are some surprises before deadline day
I can't help feel that Elmer Fudd and Gold gobbing off about 100k a week players, this player and that player that it may have hampered us getting people in and alerting other managers / clubs about our movement and getting in there while there is still time to hijack the deal
MIDO- why do managers never learn he was useless at boro-wigan-spuds now we want him please tell me this is not true hopefully just his agent trying to stir things up …….he would be a passenger and a burden on the rest of the squad plus does anyone know if he's calmed down on the old pies yet …..waste of time ! zola i think well i hope will see throught him i know where desperate but come on .
Thank god Duxbury is gone, an awful lot of bad decisions were made by him, and the unnecessary expenditure has now been highlighted. One person I will not be missing whatsoever, and sorry Iain but the answers he gave to your interview have very little relevance to the Club today. King of spin has left the building!
I wont miss Duxbury but like Iain i would wish him well for the future.
Just heard a big story about John Terry and a former team mate is about to break tomorrow. If its true he really is scum……doesnt deserve to wear the armband!!!
Where from Chris?????
Google John Terry affair….don't want to post the full details because this is just an allegation
thanks Chris
come on you have to give us more than that!
Brilliant. I can't stand that thug.
Skinny Chris – share all!!!
I rather hope that this isn't true but I suspect it is. It says something really nasty about Terry as a leader that he would abuse a team mate's trust in that way, especially as his captain. Not only that, I imagine that the football club knew about it also, but Terry remains captain and the other player is now elsewhere.
Most of all, I feel sorry for the other player as his personal life will now be cannon fodder for the red tops.
just heard benjani is talking to sunderland !
Yes Lee,I reported that we had finished our negotiations with City at around 1pm when the news broke on SSN.
wie-eye-maan!
They're welcome to him
The rumour is that Wayne Bridge’s wife/girlfrien is pregnent and………
yeah thanks …………i heard that to but have just finished doing cart wheels down the street…good news
Interesting comments from Tony Fernandez on the bbc website!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/…
Not that it matters now but I wonder how many supporters would still prefer TF rather than G&S. Personally I really hope that TF gets involved. He would have to have a major say in the club. Could he not take the other 50% with G&S agreeing to him having equal say?
I hope we don't all sit there wishing what would have been…
Maybe the 10,000 hammers fans should contact him again asking him to still invest.
BBC are reporting that Tony Fernandes has been contacted by 7 clubs including 3 from PL. He says that he is constantly being asked but unlikely to invest after missing out over West Ham. "You only need one owner" he said & it sounds as though West Ham will not be on his agenda for the forseeable future.
Don't see G&S giving anyone equal footing in the club after waiting so long to get it. Other inverstors will likely be limited to a percentage share around 10% as previously suggested.
SSN have said WHU, fulham and wigan all in for victor mosses… be nice to get him. Jack wilshere has gone to bolton (theyve done well there)
would be nice to see him at ours with the likes of collison, stanislas, hines, nouble all doing well under zola BUT i think he's got man city written all over him just lets hope for his career he doesn't go the spuds. carnt take the spuds pillerging another club because they dont have the intelligence to bring there own youth on.
[...] Duxbury Quits | West Ham Till I DieThis morning, Scott Duxbury resigned his post as Managing Director of West Ham. The following statement has been released on the cllub website. West Ham. [...]
I did not like Duxbury at all, for the sinple reason he acted like a politician (which could be the reason Iain liked him!! – ha,ha), and his excessive spin (propaganda / lies) lead a lot
But, in a way, it's amusing the way his spin came back to hit him over the head (i would probably laugh if it wasn't for the fact it was my beloved Hammers).
- he tried to make a big play of the injury problems we had under Curbishley -extremely unfair and classless as injuries are so muxh doiwn to luck .-and what happens? We have more injuries than ever under his new Italian physio regime on 400 grand per year, including more pulled hamstrings and soft tissue injuries than the club's ever known
- he tried tomake out, through J.Burt, that we had paid 9 million for Savio – that hubg the young player out to dry, as he had been hyped up so much.
I disliked much of the interview with Iain on here, particualerly the way Curbishley was mocked and ridiculed for being 'glass half-full' –
9th place and aiming for mid-table secutiry was not good enough – "I want to win the league", said Duxbury. What absolute hubris and rubbish, (I'm no Curbishley fan, but the way he was treated after he left, with the constant jibes at him by Duxbury in the press was classless – no wonder he wanted to sue us)
That should say his excessive spin (lies and propaganda) lead a lot f fans up the garden path.
No way did he institute a more open regme at West Ham – they deliberately held back the accounts for 2 seasons running!
Believe what you will but i have a friend who's uncle is a football agent and is very close to west ham, i managed to get a chance to speak to him today and he siad that Benni McCarthy will deffinately be joining West Ham and it will be concluded this weekend, he siad that we are also in for a few other players which his friend who is another agent is close to. He said he will ask him about it but said he may not be able to let me know as he is very very busy at the minute, i can also confirm off west ham news that Danny Shittu will be joining Bolton, this is news before SSN get it so i can confirm that to you. I will do my best to keep contact with him but as he is busy it will be tough.
So it is great news on the Benni front, he also said that he felt Eidurs actions towards us was disgraceful as he had agreed to join us but then turned us away. I will do my upmost best to keep you all informed but with 3 days left, agents are extremely busy but i may be able to give you some deals after the transfer window say if we went for a free agent or something. Hope this helps a bit for everyone.
I'm starting to doubt D&S's pulling power. Everyone else are making moves, even Pompey!!! Fair enough we aren't selling any one and McCarthy looks likey but I can't see anything but some last minute blush savers taking place. Victor Moses will go to a Championship side for about 1.5 to 2m, Begovic to Spurs 1m. Just a couple of examples of players who would be a great acquisition without breaking the bank. If we have a 8m kitty why does it seem we letting everyone around us strengthen without a fight, just the same old links to high profile players that will never come. I imagine we'll get Benni on Sunday and have a nail bitting Monday hearing nothing and wake up Tuesday to a press anouncement for a couple of aged has beens.
