Gudjohnsen Signs for Spurs

Eidur Gudjohnsen has joined Spurs on loan for the rest of the season, according to Sky Sports News. Good. Unreliable sod. I hope he gets splinters in his arse from sitting on the bench, because he sure as hell will struggle to get a game there.

There seems to be a lot of banter about the possibility of us signing Robbie Keane and/or David Bentley from Spurs. Bentley has lost his way at Spurs and I could see Zola reviving his career very well. We are also in desperate need of some wide players. I am less keen on Keane (haha), although on his day, I could see him combining very well with Carlton Cole. But he really does seem to have gone off the boil in recent years. On his day he is a worldbeater and scores some fantastic goals, but his lack of consistent performance has always been an issue. If we could pick him up for £3 million, it would be worth it, but not for much more.

Really couldn't care less about eidur, like you i hope he has to pull splinters out of his backside from where he has been sittig on the bench, Benni should complete his move today after his medical yesterday, Hutton, Bently and Keane would all be great players to bring i to the club, Jimenez has now joined Parma after we terminated his contract. So i really am not bothered about this one as there are much better players ot there to go for, Benni in will be great for us along with another striker who would be better than eidur, for me Keane fits the bill perectly, He will want 1st team action and we will offer him it. Lets move on from this useless ureliable sod and look at better players.

    • Great New Iain !!! Best thing I have heard in ages. I was really worried when I heard we were in for the sweaty Blonde, Gamblers anonymous Icelandic version of Kevin the teenager.

Even better with the extortionate wages he will know doubt demand in order to keep his supply of cuprinol and woodworm cures permanently replenished he will be taking tottenscum one step closer to administration, how good is that ? hahahaha

One thing I don't understand is why there is not more interest in Pavlyuchenko, that guy is great and wuld fit perfectly into our squad as he is an intelligent footballer but also knows how to score.

In the meantime we will have to hope Benni can stay motivated if he joins us, he is a good player and usually does well for the first few months at any of his new clubs and with the run of teams we have coming up that will be a good thing.

    • _E1 says:

Not to unhappy about this one he's turned us down alresdy a couple of times so why did anyone think he would change his mind now ? No not for me I am sure there is better out there.

  2. Anon says:

Eidur wants to play for a big club in the Premiership, not a small and bitter club on its way to the Championship

    • Braderz says:

Well good luck to him and all he wants is the money to be honest with you, he won’t play very much. Spurs already have a fair load of strikers.

  3. Brentwood says:

welcome to the Meerkat IT centre, 3..2..1. we are lift off !! it has been harder to get a link recently, its not just me is it? Dont care about Eidur, apparently he wants to play for a team looking for a champions league place, 2 things, one he will play but rarely and off the bench, 2 the loan is for 6 months so he'll be gone before they play in it. He doesn't want to play for us… then we dont want him !! Im happy with the business so far, only need a RB now really.

    • Braderz says:

What bussiness mate, McCarthy still not confirmed, he is probably having a medical at spurs lol, I do believe he will sign for us but it is begginnig to drag on a bit which i think is due to the work permit situaton but i want it to be confirmed now as we need to look at some other players.

      • Brentwood says:

quashie and Jiminez both gone, reduces the wage bill, and rightly or wrongly, Davenports wages on hold. our owners are doing exactly what they said, sorting the club out. cutting out unnecessary wastage, such as cottee, nice fella, but do we need an ambassidor ?

      • Tony_E says:

Check MacCarthy's international record over the last two years or so Braderz. If he has been picked for the squad in 70% of the matches for which he is availlable (i.e. not injured or suspended), i believe the work permit is relatively straightforward.

    • Soldier_Tom says:

Why a right back mate …. we are screaming to balnce the midfield up with a left footer

    • Soldier_Tom says:

Why a RB mate … we are screaming for a left sided midfielder …

  4. chrischris says:

Keane would be a fantastic signing for us,would combine well with cole.
i really want robbie to come he would be first choice at west ham,I think Keane needs regular football to rediscover his form,Spurs like big man little man up front and most of their attacks come from wide ares often missing out Keane as he likes it to feet.
I think a move to us would suit Robbie,I take it hes living in London or Essex
    whats happened to Owen?????

    • Braderz says:

Keane would be a great buy, him, cole and benni would be a real threat up front with he likes of franco and nouble also able to come on wold be great for us, we should do triple move for Hutton, Keane and Bently which would be great for us then all we would need to do is sign a spare keeper to cover for green then bussiness well done but i can't see this happening. Come on west ham give us some information on what is going on in the transfer market.

    • Soldier_Tom says:

Chris, I couldn't agree more …. Keane running off CC or Franco is what we need … not another fat lump like Eidur …

Apparently it was GFZ who wanted him not the two D's …. I am slightly concerned now that we may still not have anyone in by the weekend tho

    • Tony_E says:

My reservations with Keane are based on the fact that he seems not to have fitted in well in more than one club. However, I take your point that there is no doubt that he has the class, (form is temporary – class is permanent), and if there is anyone who will get the best out of a flair player it has to be Zola, one of the greatest flair players of all time.

If the price is right, and Harry is selling, we should probably buy.

    • DevoDevo says:

I'm sorry, chris, but you do make me laugh. One minute you are suggesting a Cole/Nouble partnership and moaning that we have no pace. The next minute you are pushing for slow, past it players.

      It's entertaining. :)

  5. He so obviously doesn't want to play for us. Last year he decided to warm the bench at Barcelona rather than come to us. Then he moves to Monaco and within months he's out on loan. Then he goes to Spurs who have too many strikers anyway. Something isn't quite right with this player's motivation.

He's gone elsewhere so let's get over it. There's no need for sour grapes, he's not too great a loss.

Not sure on Robbie Keane. We've had a few inconsistent strikers (DiMichele,Tristan) over the last few years. Bentley – maybe – we need the width and he needs to fulfill his international potential.

  6. Didn't want Eidur personally, I can't see him grafting like we need, Blessing in disguise.
Would like Bentley tho' I think GZ could get him back on track, no denying he has a good cross on him, and with big CC nodding down to Benni I can see a few goals in that little trio.
If we did get Bentley he could play R midfield and for a short tearm we could Behrami at RB.
    So
    Green
    Behrami – Tomkins – Upson – Illunga
    Bentley – Parker – Noble
    Collison
    Cole – McCartney
would be my pick, using Colly playing between mid field and attack, he has the engine for it and I can see goals galore

  7. kevin57 says:

haven't we had enough of Icelandics screwing our club.? We've been like a desparate lover mooning over an unrequited love with gudjonsson for six months now.; it's embarrassing. Still rage inducing that harry nicked him but I don't believe he was ever up for the challenge. A good player in his time- don't really know if he's still got it. he'll probably bank the cheque and warm the bench.. at least i hope so.. benni much more our style

  8. Tony_E says:

Seems like Harry has finally done us a favour! Don't know if that was quite what he intended though….

Does the kit man have some decent tweezers in his kit I wonder, hope those splinters don't turn Eidurs butt septic!

  9. Read this somewher and liked it so here, what do you all think??

So the mismanagement at West Ham continues. Who do we point the finger at this time ? Scott Duxbury ? Why on earth would any club give a prospective transfer target a medical without first signing a contract conditional upon passing the medical ?

  10. FishySuffolk says:

Plus 2 doctors on £400 grand & Nani? Whether or not he has gone yet no official announcement made.

  11. FishySuffolk says:

So Harry now has 5 Strikers to boot (HE will have to build a bigger trophy cabinet)
    Lol!

  12. FishySuffolk says:

Portsmouth website crashes as they fail to keep up payments. Oh Well at least we have a reliable website(Most of the time) & with an upgrade next week everything will be hunkydory!Lol!

  13. Digger2 says:

wonky eyes has done us a favour!! hate the way he's done it but still its good news, he's never wanted to come to us and has had so many chances, let him rot on the bench at the filth the fat useless bejam boy. i do think west ham do need to look at there transfer strategy, the McCarthy thing is going on too long and i do believe he'll be paraded before the game saturday as Blackburn will stipulate he cant play as a part of the deal, the whole Jiminez saga was and is pathetic, we spent forever getting him and for what, we gave EG a medical and a hotel and with nothing saying he cant speak to others, just silly. As for RK…does anyone honestly think we could or he would sign for us…come on people

  14. MattRyan says:

This may sound like sour grapes but I'm actuallly quite glad Harry did this! It has outlined what a fickle, pathetic player Eidur is! He has messed us around so much lately and now does this!

Is this REALLY who we want playing for us?

Na, let him sit on the bench at the Spuds and I really hope the board and GZ give up on the loser totally now!

I mean, he's not even THAT good! We can do a lot better!

    McCarthy is probably better nowadays!

And Fishy mate, not true mate, some players sign contracts that offer employment subjest to a satisfactory medical :)

    Matt

  15. mrDET says:

If West Ham have got a policy not to sell to Tottenham, why on earth do we want to buy their players!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let Harry keep em all, with their highly inflated wages, and with a bit of luck Tottenham will go like Portsmouth!!!!
We were almost there ourselves, so lets bring our youngsters on and only buy players who want to play for us,and not mercenaries! we might not make the champions league, but will Harry?

  16. FishySuffolk says:

I think the delay over Benni is his working permit. According to SSN tracker we have signed him till 2012. Double D are doing a juggling act to keep other targets in the transfer circus before it moves on to its summer venue.

  17. Brentwood says:

I dont mind not selling to spurs, if there is another option, but not buying someone who could do a job for us, would be just hurting ourselves. I hate spurs with a passion, but if Keane wanted to come to us, i aint going to say no.

  18. vortexdiego says:

I hope we sign Keane just to piss my mate who is a huge Keane and Tottenham fan off. Will buy his shirt if he ever joins us and wear it everytime i see that friend of mine.

But gudjohnsen is no loss really, 2 years ago i would have said we have missed out on yet another signing but after so many seasons on the bench (many more to come it seems), i don't think he is the same player anymore. Bring on Benni and another striker. We have the premiership experience now, so for the other striker, Beckford anyone?

    • Digger2 says:

i look at Beckford on tv and think, blimey the larrey little bleeder does know where the goal is…then i ask my leeds mate about him….25 chances to score 1…good idea vortex but i'll say no thanks.

  19. chrischris says:

    Bentley———-Carthorse

  20. djd678 says:

Good luck to Gudjinsson at Spuds grat way to end your carreer and we don't need another football parasite like Lucas Neil at the club anyway, Well done Redknapp the bubble will burst for you soon when the tax man gets you, you've been bitter and twisted ever since you left and this being after you shafted one of the best bloke West Ham ever had., teamed up with Brown to destroy Portsmouth and what for, a micky mouse FA cup win aginst a championship side who far outplayed you on the day. …………. Sorry, the cheeky chappie act has finally got to me, still onward and upwards COYI

  21. chrischris says:

its just being reported theres something wrong with Benni's medical…Oh dear.

  22. chrischris says:

Redknapps got no intention of playing Gudjohnson, its just a swipe at west ham, fella never got over being sacked, bad for his CV.

  23. Digger2 says:

maybe he dropped he's kebab on he's foot??

  24. celtichammer says:

He is no loss and will be consigned to the role he filled so magnificantly while at Barca, sitting on the bench! He has continually turned us down after protracted negotiations and even if he did sign its impossible to think that someone who stalled and withdrew from so many moves would give his all for the club.
The concern now is that we have wasted so much time chasing players we didnt get who are we likely to get in with the window about to close. The club hasnt offically annouced that Benni has signed yet (unless I missed it) and while some people say it is because they want to announce several signings together I cant say I agree with that thinking.
I would rather see a player a day unveiled at Upton Park than one job lot on the final day. Parading new players on a regular basis sends the message that we are serious about bringing in new talent and that players are happy to join us. I also fail to understand how we take so long to do a deal when the likes of the spuds can wrap one up in 24hours!
I have given credit to Sullivan and Gold for being positive in this transfer window but they need to deliver quality players and stop talking about players they were never going to get and moaning about ones who changed their mind! Personally I think we dodged a bullet with Eidur.

    • RoyClark says:

Celtic, the delay is apparently doen to work permit issues as he hasn't played the required number of internationals over the past year or two. If this is true it could mean that we initially get him on loan until these problems are sorted out.
The other reason could be that Blackburn don't want to complete until after Saturday's game so he can't play against them.

  25. I do not like dealing with Spurs at all. You get the feeling we are now only getting the left overs therefore its imperative the club do not over commit with salaries and contracts giving us more flexibility in the summer. I guess thats why Eidur was interesting for us as it was a loan. Hoiwever I am confident with Cole, Franco (to come back) plus 1 other it should be enough to see us through!

  26. MattRyan says:

I just scoured every sports site and can find and have SSN on and I can't find anything aboutr Benni's medical.

Where did you here it Chris mate?

  27. chrischris says:

Radio london matt, dont know fella name but he said there might be a problem???

  28. chrischris says:

Spuds are signing Kaboul!!! how much money this mob got!!!!
Getting really pizzed off now,we gunna sign anyone for gods sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or is it all pizz and wind as usual!!!!!!!!

    • brayhammer says:

Chris your on the ball today aren't you . . makes sence why the Benni deal has taken nearly 3 days to complete!! I hate Redknapp with a passion and the "Auld Harri Boy" act is well over . . he is a gangster, a tax fraud and NOTHING he says is the truth . . few days ago "We won't be doing any business in transfer window" Now he spends nearly £12m on players . . how in gods name can they afford all this!! HOPEFULLY IT ALL ENDS UP LIKE POMPEY!!

  29. FishySuffolk says:

Perhaps we could do a deal with PAV on loan as we did with RVN.Plus the three musketeers. All for one & one for all.

  30. MattRyan says:

Give it time mate! We have 3 and a half more days! :)

  31. Actually I like the sound of bagpuss doing his usual and spending up all the spuds money. Maybe he'll leave them in the same state he left pompey!

  32. EarlsCHammer says:

    Problem with McCarthy's medical? Great…

If there was a sniff of a chance of signing Keane I would be going all out for it. Top player. I think he'd work well at WHU alongside Cole!

  33. FishySuffolk says:

Harry now wants Younes Kaboul from Portsmouth. How many more does he need to warm the bench for him. David Levy better lock his wallet in the overnight safe.

    • andyhammer says:

for in the region of £10 Million apparently. I would be gutted if I was a spurs fan to hear that we would be buying Kaboul at all – especially for that price. What a joke.

      Arry – do it!!!!

This is the man who said he wasn't going to sign anyone in the window. Really!
can we believe a word that is vomited from this man's mouth

  34. DevoDevo says:

Victor moses is the answer to left mid. Especially since they are skint (LOL at Warnock). However, I expect others to be knocking at his door with more pulling power.

McCarthy will do for this window – we have more than enough to stay up this season. Let's wait till the summer before rebuilding in earnest – we might even find some of our existing players improve enough to make some signings less important.

    • andyhammer says:

      I agree Devo.
I would love to see Viktor Moses at the club. This would allow Collison to play a more central role alongside Parker. I think everyone knows that this is our best central partnership. I'm sure Zola knows it but he doesn't have the option right now. Collison has to stay out on the left and continue doing a very good job for us.

I just can't see us going for him though as the owners made it clear that forwards are the priority. I have to say though that considering Palace's financial position, it would be good business for us. they are not exactly in a position to barter are they. Reminds me of the position we were in until recently. Quite a shame really

    • _E1 says:

How about Snodgrass from Leeds he's a left footer and against the spuds the other night looked pretty tastey or cheeky bid for Babbel on loan.
and a big AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH for warnock.

  35. andyhammer says:

I wouldn't deal with Spurs at all. I can't imagine Sullivan wanting to deal with them after making his "What goes around comes around" speech.

These latest rumours of Bentley and Keane are so wide of the mark. Even last week we heard about Payvluchenko being linked. I doubt any has foundation.

Bentley. Sullivan stated quite clearly that we need strikers, a right back and a back-up goalkeeper. Bentley is a right-sided midfielder. Who plays there for West Ham? Behrami. Who is Better. Behrami has more skill, pace, industry, commitment…need I go on? He is also not a trouble maker with a terrible attitude.
I would be exasperated if we try to buy this man. It would make no sense. In his own head he is Pele, but in reality, he is closer to Jason Lee.

Robbie Keane. Between Liverpool and Spurs, this man has been traded in the region of £20 million. His price would have plummeted since. It is more likely to be at £9-10 Million now. Robbie Keane is THE most over-rated player in World football, probably in the history of football. I think Rafa is a terrible manager but I have to say, he gave that man chances- but how many open goals can one man miss? He did the same at Tottenham. Runs around like a headless chicken, misses lots of open goals, tonnes of chances. I've never understood why anyone would want him. I have a couple of mates who are spurs fans(I know I know) and they are desperate for us to sign him. They think he is pony

Pavlyuchenko. Out of these three he is the only one with talent, but this is over-ridden by the fact that he just can't be bothered.
West Ham- don't make the mistakes of the past. Remember layabouts like Paulo Futre and Radaciou. Players who had talent but who, quite frankly, just could not be arsed

The only player I would think about at tottenham is Hutton, but I don't think he is any better than Faubert.
In defense of Faubert he has improved massively, shows real pace, strength and his awareness is improving. He is also a utility player, he can play right midfield – quite useful. If we could buy a young Gary Neville then yes, I would buy him now but – are there any out there?

    • DevoDevo says:

As usual, andy, I agree with you, all apart from Pavylucenko's attitude. Yes, he has become disenchanted at Spurs, but surely that's due to the way Redknapp has treated him. Far superior to Crouch & Keane as a goalscorer and technically better than Defoe, yet warms the bench if he is lucky.

I think he'll return to Russia, but I would love to see him line up at the Boleyn.

      • andyhammer says:

        cheers pal

To be fair to Pav, if we did sign him (which we wont) I would look on with great interest on how the first few games with him would turn out – he has talent. I could get used to him.

Robbie Keane – I really couldn't stand that. Big wages and always commands a huge fee. Baffling.

      • mrDET says:

Pavylucenko put a story in the paper sometime ago saying England was everything that he hated, the women, the shopping, his missus didn't like either, she was very unsettled, that's what started the whole attitude thing off! so in my opinion, let his piss off back to where he came from!!!! he would never settle at West Ham, probably in his head, only Barcelona !!!

    • westhamod says:

"I would be exasperated if we try to buy this man. It would make no sense. In his own head he is Pele, but in reality, he is closer to Jason Lee."

It's been ages been ages since I've heard a reference to Pineapples, but he still makes me laugh!

  36. Wavid says:

Yeah! Gudjohnsen is going to warm the bench at Spurs! Also, maybe 'Arry is spending Spurs money to make sure they go skint, like all the other clubs he has managed at! I actually don't think we are such bad shape in regard to the team as a whole, when everyone is fit, we do need strikers and two defenders, but a short run of good results will push us up the table. January is not a good time for transfers and seeing what has happened this week just goes to show the motivation of some players. The Davids should hopefully realise that its not the same as when they were at Birmingham – its a different league now and they need to get up to speed quickly. But saying that, I feel more informed than before and feel that their management style will be a real relief from what we have had previosuly.

    • FishySuffolk says:

Wavid, David Gold said the other night that once at Brum they were so sure they would sign one player, it was ledt until the 11th hr when he went off & signed elsewhere. No time left to find anyone else. This is why Double D have had fingers in pies over 5 strikers hoping to sign 2/3 before the window closes. Plus other positions.

      • Wavid says:

Fishy, there seems to be no law that cant be broken during the transfer window in regard to fair play. I would rather have confirmation than media speak, but I understand why it happens. Its going to get really nervy during the last few days and the DDs need to deal with everything with sole purpose! Hopefully we will have a couple of new blood for the team by Monday.

  37. Digger2 says:

i blame newsnow and my addiction to it…always promises and never delivers..hang on..that sounds familiar, my earlier post said it, the transfer strategy at the club has to be looked at, stop looking at them, stop talking em up, stop getting qouted on them and sign em. The Heffner Brothers need to sort out bloody club out.

  38. andyhammer says:

And as for Gudjohnsen. This man is clearly happy just to sit on the bench and pick up his wages. I've never thought he was that good. Always over-rated.
Any of you on here who say "well I hope he sits on the bench and gets splinters"
well that is what he is happy doing. He is quite content to just pick the wages up and let his career trundle to a stop.

Like I said earlier, it's so important for West Ham to get players who are really committed, relatively young but experienced, and who have the willingness to listen and learn and fit in to the team.

Pavlychenko, Bentley, gudjohnsen – a pattern is forming here. I really hope the stories that we are trying to sign these two are unfounded. I'm sure they are.

If we could buy pavlyuchenko and somehow instill Scott Parker's attitude – then he might be World Class. Unfortunately we have to accept that he is lazy, disaffected, unlikeable and bored. We MUST look elsewhere.

    • brayhammer says:

Agree mate . . only problem is the time factor . .worst case senario is that if CC gets injured against Blackburn we are back to square 1. I know patience and all that but I am a little jumpy at the moment (no sleep checking around 40 websites at once – how have I not been fired!!) as I want to get someone in up front. Still no matter what I will be in East Stand Upper screaming my heart out come Saturday!!!

  39. chrischris says:

Reading some of the posts I think your right, can't see spuds doing business with us.tossers! still think this forward line would smash spurs GRRRRRRRRR!!!
    Behrami ..Parker…Collison
    …………..Diamanti…………
    Cole……………………..???????Maradonna

    • brayhammer says:

      I would have gone with

      Behrami . .Parker . . .Collison
      ……………Messi ………………….
Cole………………..Pele (Not the rubbish Ex-Southampton one)

  40. andyhammer says:

Reason 569 for not dealing with spurs at all.
Redknapp is trying to offload his duds. He now has 5 strikers on big wages at the club. He can't keep them all happy. I'm sure the likes of Robbie keane and pavluychenko aren't too pleased right now.

Let him have his strikers. Let them all sit on the bench. Arry needs to get rid. Let's hope no b*gger comes in for them as he will have a problem then. Don't give that club any money!

  41. brayhammer says:

So now Redknapp wants Kaboul and Begovic!!!! Eh what!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From We are buying no-one" to 3 in a day!!! And we are having trouble buying a player that agreed to join 2 days ago!!! Patience is tough . . . still better than Upson Green etc leaving . . . . .

  42. bulldogsob says:

i think we should go for pawel brozek from wista krakow.

  43. FishySuffolk says:

Goalkeeper Robinho from Palermo is being linked with a move to WH & fullback Behadj from Portsmouth is also on DD radar.__More detailed information on KUMB.

  44. brayhammer says:

And if we played Millwall it would have been

    Dicks . .. Bonds . . .Mark Ward
    ……………Di Canio………..
Cross……………..Boogers (Just for his tackling ability!!!)

  45. westhamod says:

Gudjohnsen seems to have just the sort of attitude that we don't need around Upton Park right now. Personally I'm having difficulty in seeing how a move to Tottenham could be benefical for Eidur; I don't think he'll be able to come between Judas & the Stork in their line up; Enough respect to Mr. Gudjohnsen (I'll admit he maybe able to play football about a million times better than me), but if he is happy being a second string pairing with Robbie good luck to him. I am far more impressed with what I have heard about Benni McCarthy- apparently he was gutted that our deal with Porto fell through and has had half an eye on West Ham ever since. We are talking about two different sorts of player here- one that is happy to play when called upon, safe in the knowledge that he has the professional ability to do the job (and expects a wage that refelects this; £80k). The other being a footballer who still feels he has things to prove & achievemnets to make (like a world cup) . Obviously neither player is a long-term option for the club, but we need someone (or someones!) to come here ready to do the job for West Ham rather than be here because it's their job.

  46. Digger2 says:

Belhadj is a good player, i'd have him in a shot. Lets not let Wonky Eyes find out tho hey!!!

    • agreed digger2, I rate him too.
I posted a day or so ago that I would take any of, Belhadj, Kaboul, Begovic, Boetang and Piquionne from Pompey – all good players in my opinion but was blasted by a few on here, still what do I know ???

Can't we buy Moses and let Palace keep him til' summer, he is going to be a hell of a player, left mid' or up front.

  47. OLAS says:

Redknapp was quoted as saying in Thursday's newspapers that he had offered Gudjohnson identical terms to West Ham – how the hell did Redknapp know what deal we offered? Something sticks there and it must have something to do with Vicente Montes I reckon. Why is there so much deceit in football?
