There are various reports circulating that the club are seeking to get Huntelaar from AC Milan on loan for the remainder of the season. Huntelaar is a striker with a big reputation from his days in the Dutch league, but has apparently failed to settle in the Spanish league and Italy’s Serie A.
There is no doubt that he is quality and just the type of goal predator that we so badly need. The only question will be whether he can adapt quickly enough to the more physical nature of the PL to maximise his impact over the remainder of the season. My view is if we can realistically get him then we should go for it! It could be an inspired move!
However, this is only one of the rumours circulating at the moment. Other sources have us signing McCarthy from Blackburn and/or Gudjonsson from Monaco. I think that McCarthy will be a good signing in the short-term and for a fee in the region of £1.7-2.5m you cannot really go wrong. Some sources are stating that Blackburn are digging their heels in over a £3m fee, but the player is clearly unsettled and, hopefully, this will prove decisive in pushing a deal through.
There are also reports of Spurs proposing a player swop deal involving Carlton Cole and Robbie Keane. Whilst I would consider Keane joining the club, losing Cole is really too high a price to pay I am afraid. Similarly, we should reject any offer from Man City of £15m or a lower fee and a player exchange. Again, losing Behrami is just too high a price to pay in my book.
However, things have gone quiet on prior reports that we were setting up a deal for Luke Young from Villa. I have to admit that I do hope that a good quality right-back joins the club, as it is a position that really worries me. We need to tighten things at the back and preserve/ improve our current goal difference. The -9 goal difference could be worth an extra point to us, seeing as most of our rivals at the bottom are c. -20. Hopefully we will climb to mid-table and goal difference will not be a factor, but just in case!
Zola also has to decide whether he is happy going with the two young reserve keepers as cover for Green. Both are very good prospects, particularly Stech, but do they have the experience to cope if Green got injured? As an insurance policy it might be advisable to Bring in a veteran keeper on a short-term deal. Similarly, improved cover for Upson and Tomkins might also be a preferred option, but it has to be recognised that you can only do so much business in what remains of the the January window. Perhaps we may just have to go with Da Costa and Gabbidon as first line cover, with promising prospects Spence and Ngala as our fall back?
Whatever, the next 7 days should be very interesting. Starting with, hopefully, delivering on the club’s stated objective of bringing in a striker before Tuesday’s match with Portsmouth. Interesting that Pompey beat Sunderland yesterday. There is always one team every season that starts off well and then ends up dropping in to the relegation mire, could that team be Sunderland this season?
SJ. Chandos.

Huntelaar coming for a relegation scrap….Ridiculous.
Benni more realistic.
Huntelaar will undoubtably be a fantastic LOAN signing, this simply becuase his wage demand will be too bif for us in the long term, for the short term of about 4-6 months then fine he will be worth paying biig wages to as we will be able to financially, they have again said to day that they want a 'quality striker' and for me he is the man. Other options out of McCarthy and Eidur, i would rather Benni as eidur has turned us down on many occasions and obviously doesn't want to play for us, Benni i believe will do a great job, Huntelaar and Benni will both be great signing for us, Then if we can we must look at bolstering the right back position. Hopefully we will have a new striker in the team and ready on tuesday night to face pompey away. Keep the faith everyone.
'iain,
Please please please change your hosting website. With the business end of the Transfer Window coming how will we survive with the site down eveyday.
Moan over.
As long as we get a striker who can score 10 goals before the end of season I don't really mind who it is.
Berkshire…Ignore the whiners, encourage the free-thinkers and sod the rest of em. Please don't expect Iain to sift through the dross. It could turn him into a rambling nutcase…or worse, a socialist.
Iain I could never say a bad thing about this site you gave us but you owe me some finger nails and a bottle of just for men. Its bearable when the site goes down another month just not a window month.
Agreed.
Braderz – On both counts??
yh on both lol. Especially the 1st.
Lots of speculation, as usual… but this time its heightened by our new owners sense of needeing to remain in the public eye (which I'm not sure is a good thing).
For me, Bennie would do fine.. so long as we keep CC and he comes back to full fitness soon. I don't think we should be doing anything radical and also think that the players we have are more than good enough to shoot us up the table over the next few weeks.
Considering the run of games we have coming up, most of which are at home, I'm not too fussed if we get anyone.. so long as all our players remain at the club and Cole is back soon.
I really believe that with all the media hype about the takeover behind us (which no doubt has affected players and managers alike), we'll get back to the levels we showed last year and be comfortable mid table by the end of February.
So, my message to the 2 Daves would be… keep quiet, let the manager be heard for a change and keep the wolves from the door… then review what we have or have not in the summer time properly..
Celtic,
I see where you went wrong with your workings on how much the clubed owed.
You didnt know the tea lady and kit man were both driving brand new 59 plate Astons that the club had 21,000 shirts with ironed on logos still in stock.
Maybe next year we could just iron something on them and use them again?
Good call BH, I'l be sure to pass on Celtic if I see him, Irelands not that big a place, he must be round here somewhere…!!!
Agree with your previous post about Benni… and the site…
At this stage in the season and with the position we are in, we need tried and tested Premiership players rather than any European "star names" who cannot get into their present teams. We simply do not have the time for them to get up to speed and need players who instantly know what is required of them.
Michael Owen fits our needs perfectly. He is desperate to make the plane to South Africa but will get only a handful of starts for United. In normal circumstances, he would give us a second thought, but the lure of starting every game, feeding off CC and catching the eye of Signor Capello might just be enough to turn his head.
Just need a cunning plan to make it palatable to Fergie now.
Knew there had to be a fault in the plan.
Agree with that, a latter day Toshack and Keegan. Can't see Fergie letting it happen or Owen wanting to move south though.
We could hand Owen a World Cup ticket…that should be enough to convince the player. Bottle of fine red should get Fergie on side.
We should try for Berbatov on loan.
I know it is only a video and doesn't mean he can do it here but he looks class. Great goal pocher and has great eye for goal and is what we need. Loan will be great. [youtube mIIGScglFCE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIIGScglFCE youtube]
Once saw a youtube video on Faubert. Its amazing how well these agents can edit.
Faubert did look world class on youtube lol
He still does.
Even at Real Madrid he scored 8 goals in 20 games with an average of 34 minutes per game. For the Dutch squad he made 14 goals in 29 games. For AC 3 in 12 games. Considering he never had a change of adapting to these teams and getting to fit in that is quite impressive.
By the way: in the Dutch league he made 109 goals in 138 matches, best average ever. Thats better than Cruijff , van Basten or van Nistelrooij.
So dont compare him to a Faubert please.
we had better move quick if we want huntlaar cus hes having talks with everton as we speak. I just cant see the point of signing mcarthey ( who cant get in the blackburn team) of gudjohnsen ( who has constantly snubbed us) . Huntlaar would be a great signing come on david do the biz COYI
Gudjohnsen can't get into the Monaco team… he isn't even on the bench. He's failed to score a single competetive goal so far! I REALLY dont think he's da right man…
Here is another vid of his top 10 goals, a lot of over head kicks lol, very talented at them. [youtube 2PMi5emuuXs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PMi5emuuXs youtube]
Cahillcc – Sorry mate, thought that it was CH's post. Need to go to spec savers.
yh i know lol, he doing alright at the minute.
I have the same dreaded feeling that I had towards the last window…….It is being reported we are targeting players playing for Top 4 clubs in their respective leagues when we should be taking a leaf out of Everton's policy and looking for players within our budget and playing style. I am very worried we will leave it too late again.
Huntelaar is about as likley as RVN. These players are short term option as is Benni Macarthy. Its not me being pessimistic its us being realistic about who we can get in. Just having a look at the Belgian League, this fella looks pretty useful. Romelu Lukaku. Realtively young but looks like a real powerhouse. Can't find anything on transfer fees, but given his young age I would suggest that not much more than £5-6 million. He is the type of player we should be looking at [youtube rH7aOG263tw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH7aOG263tw&fe... youtube]
Bob, Lukaku is one of the best striker prospects in Europe. Every big club knows about him and Chelsea has been trying to bring him in for quite some time now. We had a better chance of getting Ruud than we have of getting Lukaku.
Also, he is only 16 and his parents insist that he finish he schooling before transferring. Basically, he's a school boy during the week and a professional footballer on the weekends! Although any team would love to have him, he simply is not available.
Cheers for your update, I will keep searching.
Oliver, without sounding like I am condascending but are you an expert on Belgian or Dutch football? The reason I ask, is a I spent a couple of days going over a few players from both leagues, (hence the obligatory You Tube clip of Lukaku) I looked at another player from Roda JC, Mads Junker. Danish striker 9 goals in 19 games, again, only what I can see from You Tube looks useful. Do you know of him, or any other players that could "hit the ground running" as it were?
i cant see us getting huntelaar and i realy dont want gudjohnsen, he is old, has to many problems off the pitch and never wanted to come before. i would like to see us get mcarthy even though he is not played at blackburn he was still their top goal scorer the last 2 seasons. big same just dont play him.
i would sell Behrami for £15mill its a lot of money for a player we have plenty of cover for.
talksport tomorrow night i think david gold is on with danny kelly @ 7pm ….should be a good listen
Stop dreaming fellas. Owen's gone at the game, RVN was never coming and unless Huntelaar is desperate nor will he. We don't need anyone in to stay up – wait till the summer.
PS. Petrov doesn't look too happy at Citeh.
Lukaku is only 16 !!! sweet child of mine !!!!!!!! Im glad RVN hasn't signed actually, although i understand why Mr Sullivan wants to pay him so much, but surely it cant be good for the rest of the squad. Owen would be a good shout. I cant do anything about who we bring in…. so i will wait and see!!!! please please please lord, a 3 or 4 game winning streak would be great right now.
Well here's to a new week, a new week to be filled with transfer specualtion, hopefully a week where we sign some nw players who will come in and help, a week where we hope we defeat Pompey on tuesday followed by another win against Blackburn next sunday, a week where as hammers fans for once we don't have to think about the takeover as that is done, yes, done. Then their is the future, the future we can look at getting away from the bottom, a future where we push for Europe and then for the top 4. We can always dream as hammers so heres hoping for only better things to come for us hammers fans who deserve it. Keep the faith guys we have a big week ahead of us.
Hear Hear!!
Ditto, make you right Braderz!
Lets get behing OUR team!!!
Weather we sign anyone or not by tuesdays game we must go for a win to start the run of easier games on a positive note it will give the team real confidence for the coming fixtures, poor old pompey are in turmoil and i fear for there future(makes our probs seem like tea in the park). And that means playing two upfront if we've got a new striker or not ,so thats Nouble and possibley Cole, if he's not fit then diamanti we have to put the pressure on a team low on confidence right from the off.I think we will sign McCarthy who will be ok anyone else is just speculation.
TImes on line says we have signed Benni on a 2.5 year contract. If true why would we offer a 32 a two year deal?
If McCarthy has signed by tomorrow, my team vs pompey will be:
Green
Spector (yes i know what your thinking but he did well vs villa)
Tomkins
Upson
Faubert
Behrami
Parker
Collison
Diamanti
McCarthy
Nouble
With hopefully cole on the bench who could come on and play for about 25-30 minutes to get back in to match fitness. Fingers crossed that we sign a striker this week, if we don't then for me play same team vs villa and bring stan and diamanti on 5 mins after second half to cause a large threat.
COYI !!!
Braderz even if we don't get McCarthy in i think we should still try and play two up top, we have to put Pompey on the back foot remember it's a game they have to win as well and we don't want a stalemate with a packed midfield.Lets hope we get Mac in tomoz.
I hope we do get McCarthy, even if only short term. If he is fit he knows where the net is and wanted to play for us apparently before Blackburn got him. He'd be useful this season IMO. I'm pleased RVN turned us down. I didn't want him. I don't think he would have fought for the cause, and would purely have come for the cash. Good riddance!
Iain, I agree with your thoughts on the two up front, both benni and Eidur would be a good addition … what has amazed me more than anything tho is that you seem to have this fasination with the RB slot when we have not one left footed midfielder fit .. I posted earlier that is it a coincidence that Illunga has looked a shadow of the player we saw last season without LBM grafting in front of him …
The £100 000 PW were for me just a PR stunt to throw smoke … RVN and KVH were never going to happen … Owen is a thought that I like and if he was honest is his only real route to the WC by showing he can play off Carlton Cole … warming the bench at the manure isn't …
I think Mac just is'nt a Allardyce sort of player so he's doe'nt get look in he'll jump at the chance to come to us,if the moneys right Blackburn will sell.
I think LBM had some real stinkers but his work rate could never be questioned and without doubt he gives the left back a lot of protection.
The trouble is though Dicky, we just haven't mentioned replacing him … two up front and a LM for me please
Stop talking just get Huntelaar or Pavlychenko they will be great long term buys ,if you really do want quality.
We don't need a lot to be honest our best eleven is'nt that bad it's strength in depth we've lacked and competition for places.Agree with left mid and width we play very narrow at times but if all we get is a striker and right back i'll be reasonably happy, remember Cole is almost ready as is Franco and all Nouble just needs is a goal and he'll be up and running.
I have this sneaking suspicion that Cole will not be ready and thats why they are talkng about 2 strikers when we probably only need 1.
Hunteelar did'nt do anything in spain and has done nothing in Italy a bit to much of a gamble for me sort term I don't think he would give us much.
McCarthey will be ok IF the price is right but I think Beattie is a better option and more likley to hit the ground running we might get him on a loan.
No sign of a RB yet ?
The thing is every ones going on about tuesday but the window is open for another week and to be honest hardly any prem clubs have done much busines yet,so a striker signed before tues would be great but lets be patient and see what happens,we had to wait weeks for a take over i'm sure we can wait another week for a couple of signings.
SJ's original post was a summary of the various rumours but, away from transfers, I was somewhat amazed about the story in the NOTW that Davenport is not being paid because of breach of contract. I cannot see how that can be. However also in today's NOTW was a report Norwich are close to going into admin and I see that club are saying its a complete fabrication and taking legal action so you have to question the Dav story too
I've said it a few times, but i still would like Beattie! I know it goes against 'project football' but i'd play basic/effective for the rest of the season if it kept us where we need to be! And then after the WC, see what we can do to help the squad.
Huntelaar would be great for 'Project Football' maybe the final peice in a, yet to be proved or to be realised puzzle. Benni short term could do a job, but we need either Prem experienced, or top quality, ala Huntelaar!
To be honest, I think we'll end up with no onet, £100k offers are great! We could offer Messi £500k a week, but he aint going to join us, empty promises with no end product! Get a right back, our goals for in the botttom half isn't that bad! And we have had a bad run!
CC to get back, Franco to get back, Beattie in, and if were going to be silly, offer wages/cash money, go Beckford (yes he has retracted his transfer request) he could do a job and in the future, where ever that may be!
Robiniho wants out at man city, wants more football, world cup around the corner etc…
Is 100,000 of west hams money good enough to tempt? can move on after the world cups over.
Does not have to move country for 3rd time, can concentrate on his football for 4 months.
If the new owners want to gain respect and a Premiership future, Huntelaar and Pavlychenko would give them both!
Huntelaar is on 65 Grand a week at AC, a drop in the ocean if you are wanting World Class boys!
What makes people think that a player brought in on a short term big money deal is going to put themselves on the line for the club? A hired gun really isnt the answer.
What we need is to buy a player who sees his future at the club helping it meet challanges, this season the challange being getting clear of the relegation scrap.
Give someone an emotional investment in the club, give them something to believe in and something to fight for. Show them where this club is capable of going and tell them you them to help you get it there.
Appeal to the part of them that made them kick a ball to begin with. What is the point in trying to appeal to a multi millionaire with a 4month contract that in real terms isnt going to change his wealth very much. In fact if they get hurt it could actually cost them money as they know we wont be there for them after May, they could well be left injured and without a club.
Make a statement in the players you bring in. When DDM and Tristan were signed there was uproar about signing players the wrong side of 30 on short term deals and now we are being told that we should expect nothing more.
Can you really see a player on a short term deal with a club who had told him he is gone on the summer going in for a 50/50 that could get them hurt?
Stop running this club down and bemoaning its situation, stop telling people what a disaster it is, who the hell wants to join a club whos owners say its lucky to even be in business?
Tell them what this club is, tell them the place it holds in the footballing heart of a nation, tell them about the fans that have captured the hearts of some of the greatest players in history, how the likes of DiCanio rejected ManU time and again because he couldnt bring himself to leave these fans, tell them you want to bring the club to its rightful place, that you want to reward these fans for their faith and their passion and tell the player you want him to be their new hero and yes there are easier options but there are none that could be as rewarding!
tell them the place it holds in the footballing heart of a nation,
Everybody hates us ever since those clowns oop north couldn’t get promoted. Only misguided fans looking through claret and blue glasses think that the world has forgiven us for Tevez. We know longer hold any affection as fans’ 2nd teams. Things have moved on – not unlike what you should do with the new owners.
What memoribilia you selling now that they’re in charge?
Well said m8.
I would normally agree with that statement 100%. Hiring in expensive players with no loyalty to the club would do us no favours at all.
This year though, there are a few players out there who might see WHU as their last chance for World Cup glory. With our current striker problems might we take advantage until the summer?
Now if we could get the kind of player you describe, I'd be all for it. But the Jan transfer window is a lousy time to buy that kind of player. To move in Jan suggests that the player is unwanted where he is, or is willing to push for a move because he isn't first choice, or isn't loyal enough to want to stay with his club to the end of the current campaign for either career advancement or money.
If we can survive this season, then I agree with your philosophy for the future, but right now I wonder if we have much choice?
That is exactly what Gold and Sullivan are saying, survival this season is the only goal. Investing in players in January is never easy, they cost more and normally are not wanted by the clubs they are at. They have stated that building for the future wil begin after this first target is met.
I do agree with most of what Celtic has said about bringing players who want to be here and see their future at West Ham but Gold and Sullivan has said the same thing. If they said that no players would becoming in January unless they met that criteria and didn't bring anyone in, they would be accused of risking the clubs premiership status.
I seem to think Celtic is looking at it from the wrong perspective. Lets give Gold and Sullivan the benefit of the doubt. I for one have been quite impressed with what they have had to say so far, regarding their vision and the passion for the club.
It makes a welcome change thinking about bringing players in rather then players leaving the club.
Agree 100%, trev.
Gold and Sullivan's openness since they came in has been a breath of fresh air and the wastefulness that they are unravelling, is truly disgraceful – who, I wonder, was poncing around in the leased Aston Martin?
I didn't realise Gold was 73. Looks good on it – then again, spending your life in the porn industry can't be too stressful, can it?
I am not sure of the strategy adopted by our new owners but the problem they have is just that convincing top class professionals to come to our club.
Mercenaries come for money{Lucas Neill]some come for the appeal and challenge[Paolo Di Canio]other people have to be convinced or are enticed by a manager who they feel could take them to international standard[Carlton Cole].
I genuinely would get Pav and Huntelaar because that is a young top class international forward line who will deliver.
A full back Ferrera of Chelsea is excellent,Luke Young not good enough.
Why settle for Beattie 31,Mccarthy 33or fat Gudjohnson31 who is a mercenary, what is Zola,s actual input in all this.
Another way Moses,Beckford and Hutton all young hungry guys who are 100% up for a fight!
Hutton and Beckford are not the answer either. Having just got rid of Quashie we don’t really need to replace him with his footballing cousins.
Beckford hasn’t suddenly become good overnight just because he’s scored a couple of goals. If he was in fact thought to be special then teams would’ve been sniffing round long ago – they weren’t.
As for signing the Scottish Carlos – forget it. The fact that McCleish and O’Neill have never been linked with says something. If Birmingham are happier with Stephen Carr that’s enough of a clue as to how highly Hutton is thought of.
Funny how Beckford scored at Old Trafford and White Hart Lane, our boys got nothing at the Lane but he would at least get himself in a position to score like at Old Trafford,we let them have 4 zip at home so he is on his own by beating our forward line, so he has not become bad overnight either, he can score!
huntelaar all day for me, but a amazing prospect for the future, i'd go for BENIK AFOBE in the arsenal youth team, a local dagenham lad, who plays for england under 16's as well, i remember watching playing for his school team he will take on any player then look to set up a team mate, very unselfish, with a well balanced mind, in the mould of thierry henry ( mind set ) he is worth looking at on UTUBE guys, but a england striker for the future i promise,(hope) i know injuries, or failing to live up to tag, but this boy has got it all,
If the tabloids are to be believed, we are about to sign six or so strikers. Just shows you that you can't believe a word these people say. We are not a charity and don't go around buying players to help out their ailing careers. However if the sun is to be believed, that is precisely what we are doing with James Beattie. If he was a racehorse, he would have been shot long ago, and ended up on a frenchman's plate. More a knackered old donkey than a racehorse. And £3M???? Please let it not be true!!!!!!!
Benjani yesterday looked hopeless against inferior opposition in Scunthorpe. The Iron effortlessly kept him quiet all game. Hardly fills the head with optimism knowing we could be signing this man for £3million???!!
Tolifilou Maoulida- No I've not heard of him either. He plays for Lens and (like Beattie) is unable to get in the team. Has scored 1 goal this season and unsurprisingly is KEEN to come to the Premiership. Well of course he is.
So basically, out of this lot, the only options are Huntelaar and Benni. Out of these two, Huntelaar, I would be extremley surprised to see him coming. Amazed. What a signing it would be until the end of the season. Benni McCarthy woudl be a good signing if only for the £2M or so he is being touted for.
Toifilou Maoulida- plays for Lens, is 30 years old and is cr*p. Only scored 1 goal this season
James Beattie. Past it(dining out of 1 good year for southampton 7 years ago), slow, injury-prone and sub-standard.
Huntelaar.
Benni McCarthy
Benjani.
Seriously Gold and Sullivan. If you want to waste millions of important money that could be better spent on better players in the summer then go out and buy Beattie and Benjani. Between them, they cost £6Million.
I would rather us take our chances until the end of the season with a crocked Carlton Cole and an aging if industrious and willing Franco. Franco and Cole are ten times the players these two are.
I'm hoping that when Gold said yesterday that he is "confident" of bringing in a "special" player before the transfer window shuts- he wasn't referring to Beattie
Fingers and toes crossed.
Andy – pretty much what I said on another thread. I would welcome McCarthy as additonal cover, but we don't need anybody else to keep us up this season and when you look at the recent performances of Spurs and Liverpool, you realise that the step up to challenging for top 4 is not as distant as it used to be.
agree- i would rather take our chances till the summer , i think we have enought in the squad as it is but its not that deep if we get injuries as we have. so out of them benni mccarhty is the only one i would like to see with the addition of a defender like luke young or alan hutton .
I've said it before and I'll say it again…. What we need is a poacher, and the one of the best goal poachers in Britain at the moment is Kris Boyd.
100 goals in just 3 seasons, even in the SPL is bloody good going by anyone's book, he's out of contract in the summer and the right offer would bring him in.
Why is it we don't look north of the border anymore? McAvennie anyone? Paolo played a blinder for Celtic! There's a pool of terrific players here at the moment, just crying out for a coach like Zola to nurture them and take them to a different level…

Todays players in the shop window we are linked with today include Maluda & Beattie. With Mccarthy in pole position are definite possibilites. But as has been shown before if the terms are not right they will not sign. As with RVN as a long shot it shows that Double D mean business and the major changes will not materialise until the summer. However 7days of the window are left & we hope that a couple of signings will be made before the deadline.
I've got no interest in these big names coming to our club now. In my opinion its not what we need. Maybe a loan deal at the beginning of next season.
I'm not a fan of McCarthy or Benjani as neither of them could hit a barn door. McCarthy looks over weight at the moment and might take a while to regain fitness. Benjani hasn't played regular football for over a year and his reputation is based solely on a few great performances.
I must admit I wasn't too keen on us being linked with Beattie either, but the idea has grown on me. I think he'll fight hard for the team and he's vocal, which is something we lack at the moment.
There is always a concern that he might try and wrestle Zola naked but I think that's a risk worth taking.
According to SSN Mccarthy has said he no longer wants to play for Blackburn. Other Strikers are Benjani who is out of contract in the summer & we are looking at a loan deal until then. However no deal will talked of until after 2nd leg CC on Wednesday. Argentinian Masquez (spelling?) is also on the radar. Upto 5 strikers are in the frame.
Fishy if Menseguez is a striker then someone should really break the news to him! A career total of 14 goals in a career total of 150 odd games suggest no one has told the lad!
