Sullivan on Transfer Latest

David Sullivan has just given an interview to Radio 5 Live in which he reveals he has offered an out of contract player £100,000 a week to join us. I assume he must be referring to Ruud Van Nistelroy.

Some interesting comments here – here's my twopenneth:

The reason I questioned the signing of RVN is that it sends the wrong signals to players like Parker who WILL keep the club up. Don't mess with the wages structure and pay players what they are worth.

I won't speculate on transfer targets, but both Young & McCarthy would be decent signings imo.

    Sales:
    Not sure why people want to sell Faubert, I honestly think he has it in him to be a top class RB. So;

    • westham88 says:

i feel he can do a good job for us and we always have the opion to play him right wing if a right back comes along. i also dout we would get much for him.

    • broganq says:

Hey Devo, I think Sullivan was stupid to say we were getting a player in for 100k a week. He needn't of and I'm sure it was only driven by his inflated ego. What if we don't get him, which looks unlikely? What has it said to the remainder of the squad and their agents?

I think it's wrong going for a player at his age anyway – even on loan. It could go so wrong injury wise – it seems like such a risk.

And we shouldn't sell Behrami for 15mil in this window either. He's young and yet to fulfil all his potential, but if he does with us in the next few years, we will benefit and his price will only go up. Also we shouldn't sell to other successful English clubs, only to European clubs. What's the point in strengthening Man City at our expense?

  2. westham88 says:

Behrami is a great under rated player but 15mil for a player we have cover for has got to look good. maybe we could push them for 15 mil plus benjani.
paying a striker is realy going to upset the team when the likes of Green and Collison are only payed in the low 20s.

  3. DevoDevo says:

I wouldn’t sell Faubert, as I believe he has it in him to be a top class RB. Nor would I sell LBM, he is exactly what we are lacking at the moment on the left side.

    Spector – 1.5m
    Gabbidon – 2 m
    Davenport – 1.5m
    Kovac – 3m
    Noble – 6m
    Sears – 2m
    Dyer – free
    Jiminez – return

    16m + 8m pledged by David & David = 24m

Young & McCarthy in January – £6.5m Balance for summer – 17.5m. Add to this Sky money & the possible sale of Upson & Green and we have a large war chest to buy quality at sensible prices.

I would also be looking to unload some of the youngsters in the ressies like Payne and one of NGala & Spence if we are to keep Da Costa.

    • broganq says:

I doubt anyone will pay 2mil for sears, unfortunately he did himself, and us, no good while playing in the chapionship.

I am also in two minds about getting rid of noble. He's very popular in the dressing room and still maturing (even though he is the clubs most capped player.

NGala I agree will most likely go but Spence is to be kept no matter what. But I do agree, there will have to be a lot of tough choices made in the summer and some of them may not be popular.

spector is two footed and covers right and l/back, so although i dont rate him personally is useful as a squad player. if he does well at WC, we may gey more for him in summer. Gabbidon i dont rate but again is useful cover at c/def and l/back. Davenport is out contract in summer and so we would be lucky to 500k, also not fit and if charge of assault stands…could goto jail. Also he would breach contract if convicted of assault. Noble i like, but has been a dissap recently….dont understand myself. Sears 2 mill….lucky to get 500k imo.
Dyer no one will buy even on a free…65k a week and he wont take a paycut…so we are prob stuck with him till contract expires.
People want your best players not your worst and this lot on premier wages and wont take paycut, so can only goto premier club probably and doubt many appeal to other premier clubs….most trying to offload and not buy i'm afraid.

I have just checked free agents from seria A and goran pandev is one of them but surely we wouldn't offer that much, i don't know a great deal about him, i am intrigued to find out who this player is.

  5. Bazzahammer says:

Don’t sell behrami or faubert. Intact don’t sell anyone. We can’t risk losing players at the moment.

I’m still not sure about McCarthy. I used to really like the guy but I think he’s lost a lot of what he had. Luke young is also a slightly dodgy one but we do need a right-back. I think faubert needs to play RM/RW as that’s were he is most effective.

As for RVN. He is very risky. Injury prone and well past his best. If were going to sign a player for that many wages then I think we should spend it on huntelaar. Younger and deadlier infront of goal.

But I will say this again as I have before, mark noble has to go. Notthis window but the next as we cannot afford to lose any first team contenders right now.

In my opinion I think we will sign McCarthy, a striker from the championship (possibly on loan) and luke young.

    Nevertheles…coyi!!!

  6. broganq says:

If we can pick up a player like McCarthy and perhaps one other striker on loan then that should do us fine. I don't like the way S+G are offering such big wages publically – it's crass and very unwise.

Summer is the time for the club to re-structure the squad. We have no FA cup to worry about and with the run in we have there is no excuse in ending in the bottom three.

Also I hope Nani stays on in some department. His knowledge and contacts in Italy especially could unearth more Behrami's and Ilunga's. I think he is an asset and as such should be kept.

    • tlovegrove says:

Couldn't disagree more on Nani. I personally can't wait to see the back of him, and think it will be a great day when Nani leaves. I hope Brady sacks him straight away as he is a waste of space and money! Apart from Behrami and Ilunga his signings have been dreadful. I'm a traditiionalist and believe the manager should be the person to chose the players he wants, and not some Director of Football. I have faith in Zola to sign good players, but not Nani.

    • Goatygav says:

Completely with you on Nani broganq. Nani will continue to bring us some real winners if he stays on.

  7. tlovegrove says:

I would just like to say how delighted I am that Nigel Quashie has finnaly left the club. Hopefully this can be the last of the clearing out of the dead wood. In the summer Boa Morte, Davenport, Hines, Franco and Jimenez will all be out of contract which will significantly reduce our wage bill. I think we need to try and move on Spector, Dyer, Kovac, Da Costa, Gabbidon and Faubert in order to bring some money in. We clearly need 2 strikers and a right back now, and will need to bring in another 3/4 players in the summer. I personally would like to see Huntelaar, McCarthy and Luke Young arrive this window.

  8. I THINK IT MIGHT BE LUCA TONI FROM BAYERN MUNICH.HE IS GOOD FRIENDS WITH ZOLA

  9. OK I WILL BE BACK WHEN LUCA TONI HAS SIGNED TO SAY I TOLD YOU SO.

  10. NO SERIOUSLY I DO AGREE EVERY PLAYER ON THE PLANET WILL BE LINKED WITH WEST HAM BECAUSE OF THE 100,000 POUND A WEEK WAGES THAT IS BEING OFFERD FOR THAT VERY SPECIAL PLAYER.BUT WE WILL PROBABLY END UP WITH ZAMORA AND HAREWOOD BACK.

  11. gr8hammer says:

Listen everyone i think we should go to Man United and enquire about Berbatov on loan as fergie doesnt see much of him at the moment and he needs a boost which will probably come from a new challenge and significant role. This could help improve his value to help SAF maybe cashing in on him in the summer or sending him back to Man U a bigger player again. All we need for now is just a bit of a short term solution just to keep ourselves up rather than look for players that will serve our long term future. Berbatov can finish and thats all we need someone who if we have 2 chances a game can put them away and make our cause a lot easier. If we score 2 or so goals against the teams we play in the not too distant future we should hold on b/c we have the capacity to be real compact in defence especially when we are holding up great offensive teams in the division. Berba and Cole could be a pretty lethal combination. Now if you have to splash out on wages a bit this is the better option IMO. IRONS!!

  12. Braderz says:

oh right thanks for the update m8. I really don't know who it is.

  13. DevoDevo says:

3 players on tonight worth a punt:

    Beckford
    Snodgrass
Bale (well, he can’t win with Tottenham) :D
