A Happy Hammers New Year!

Time to sign off until 2010 and wish all my readers a really happy New Year. If 2009 has been eventful, I suspect it has nothing on 2010. It’s a year I am hugely looking forward to both on a personal and professional basis. One way or another, I think it’s going to be one of the most important of my life. I hope you’ll be joining me on the rollercoaster than undoubtedly lies ahead.

I’m spending the New Year at home. I hate New Year’s parties.

Thanks for your company in 2009. It’s now time to look ahead with optimism and confidence.

And finally, big thanks to S J Chandos for all his hard work on the blog in the latter part of 2010. I know we all appreciate it.

Happy New Year everyone!

Iain

PS And congratulations to Matt Ryan and his wife on their new baby daughter!

Iain, SJ, one and all…one way or another it has been a crap 2009, and we are still hanging in there.
The tide is turning so let's prepare for ourselves for the good (if not glory) times ahead.
Happy New Year children. Keep the faith.

Ditto that on New year's parties, Iain!

Children are put to bed and the wine is uncorked.

All the best to my cyber friends on here and I look forward to a better year ahead for our beloved club.

Happy New Year from a very hot Queensland!
New Year hopefully brings the Hammers a top owner, the better players and Zola will be the best manager with some decent transfer money at his disposal.
It would be fantastic if a rule was introduced making a premier league side field a minimum of 5 English players in their side(Arse v Pompey none at all).
I have a sneaking feeling we are going to beat Arse on sunday we have nothing to lose.
Hope all our ambitions for our great club come true and Iain many thanks for this site because talking rugby league and cricket to the aussies all day is tough.
Looking forward to November and The Ashes first test at the Gabba in Brisbane I am trying to organise a box for the third day which is the saturday any of you boys need a good day please get in touch and I will try to help get you in if I can. We are going to smash them as this is a very poor Aussie side,Happy New Beer!

Happy New Year to all WHTID regulars. Although I’ll be making the usual 200 mile round trip on Sunday with all our injuries I can’t say I will be doing so with optimism. However its the following week I am looking forward to – hopefully new owners who will inject some cash for the transfer window that is about to open and then three points against Wolves. 2009 has been a very mixed year for our wonderful club and I am sure 2010 will signal better and more stable times. I know that whatever happens my support and that of all of you will never waiver. COYI!

Happy New Year everyone. I am grateful for 'West Ham Till I Die' and West Ham United FC. I am 41 and have always lived in West London, but the Hammers are my team. I could not resist buying a ticket for the Wolves game. I already bought one for the Blackburn game!!

A very happy New Year to every one who contributes to this site.

  20. Happy New Year everyone, take a look at this link on the BBC some nice footage of the 1980 cup celebrations and interviews with players. I was only 4 but just listen to the hammers fans in the background singing, brilliant.

    Hope the link works

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/fa_cup/8…

The daily mail are saying that the club are desperate for the fans to attend sundays match against arsenal and have sent out email messages to those who have not purchased a ticket. I fear we might have a really empty stadium especially as it's on ITV.

  21. RomeHammer says:

A Happy and Prosperous New Year to all. There is a great article at the Beeb in regard to the 1980 Cup winning team: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/fa_cup/8… In difference to what appears the majority opinion on this site I still think that the Hammers should go out and try and win the Cup this year in spite of their lowly position.

  22. Braderz says:

Happy new year everyone and special thanks to Iain and S J for all their hard work in 2009, lets hope 2010 is better than 09 as for me it couldn't get worse than 09 to be honest. Here's hoping to a fantastic new year and a succesful one for our mighty hammers.

  23. pjdpjd says:

brothers and sisters a happy new year to you all, took a quiet moment to look at our fixtures and came to the conclusion we should be ok .home games are our lifeblood so letscrack on and get behind zola clarke and whoever ends up wearing the shirt.peace and love to you all

  24. _E1 says:

Good Morning all and a HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!
The transfer window is open and the rumors a flying thick and fast, oh what it is to be a Hammers fan.
    My list as follows
Steve Warnock £ 4m LB CB LM
Mica Richards £ 5m RB CB
Kevin Nolan £ 5m CM RM
    Kevin Beattie £ 3m CF
Chris Eagles £ 4m LM RM
    To go
    Quassie £ 1m
    Green £ 7m
    Ashton payout £7m
    Transfere kitty £ 6m estimated.
All have fight and experience and thats what we need now.

    • Jolly says:

      E1 – it's a good list with 2 major problems;
      1. Most of the clubs won't sell or won't sell at those prices (Eagles for exmple is Burnley's best player – they have NO interest in selling him and Richards would cost nearer £10m)
      2. Where is the money coming from? Not just for transfer fees but for wages.

  25. telboy007 says:

Happy new year, and heres to the results continuing to go our way and keeping us out of the relegation zone!

  26. Jolly says:

We all know that we need around 4 additions to the squad to progress. Those requirements are:

    CH,RB,AM,CF

As such i would suggest the following:

CH – No idea (!) Steven Taylor at Newcastle is the best bet but the toon won't sell.
RB – Luke Young is back in favour at Villa but would approve of a move to the Boleyn but he will cost around £6m. Hutton is available from Spurs for around £3m.
AM – Jack Wilshire is available for a season long loan, Bentley would cost around £10m, Michael Johnson at Citeh is looking for 1st team football and could be picked up for a loan deal also.
CF – Chris Boyd has 6 months left at Rangers and could be picked up for around £1.5m. Keane or Pavlechenko from Spurs will cost but both are premier quality. Benjani at Citeh would cost around £2m.

  27. Roshi says:

Happy new year, thanks Iain, SJ and all the other pals I have made on here for the information, banter and laughs that make WHTID so flipping addictive.

  28. SingaporeHammer says:

    Congrats Matt!

  29. Goatygav says:

Yep – an eventful and challenging 2009 to say the least.

I too believe 2010 will be a great year for me and my family with lots going on.

    The only way is up.

    COYI!!
