You can't go wrong with averages and on the whole they look good to me … I was happy with 4 points from the nine and was pleased we stemmed the flow at the lane before a slaughter took place …
We arn't out of the wood yet tho and we need to forget the FA Cup and concentrate on survival … on that note are many of you going to Saturdays game ? the prices are just too steep for me this time round so see you all o the 10th
most peoples 3 for relegation.
Burnley
Hull
Portsmouth
i think (see below)…they have the worst goal difference…4th choice wolves. We will finish 12th…hopefully with our injured players back.
wigan
hull
portsmouth
I think some people who voted got too carried away by the fact that it was Tottenham that beat us.
Faubert & Upson were nothing less than good (7) and the fact that Behrami, who was dreadful sits in 4th, confirms that most people vote according to their personal likes and dislikes rather than objectively.
Oh and Kovac, of whom I have been particularly critical of in the past, was our best midfielder.
l think Kovac is going to become a very good signing for us,its going to take a few more games yet,but he's getting better every game, perhaps its just confidence he needs.l couldn't understand why we signed him,but he's improving all the time, must be Zola and Clark's coaching again.
Agree, Devo, with your observation about personal likes and dislikes. There has been a lot of this lately with heroes (e.g. Behrami) and several villains (e.g. Upson, Kovac in particular). Kovac has had some dire games but has been OK in the last couple. Behrami was pretty ineffectual on Monday and, personally, I thought that Diamanti was very poor.
Agree, Roy. Diamanti did very little, considering he is the "playmaker". In fact, he was lucky to stay on the pitch for the number of blatant fouls he committed.
I have to concur with the Jiminez rating, though, truly disgraceful performance. I would have subbed him for Nouble at the hour mark when we could still have got something from the game.
Devo I think the 4-1-4-1 formation suit Kovac hence the improved performances, in defence of Jiminez I just don't think we suit his style of play … so I am glad he is here on loan …
I am more concerned with Ilunga tho … he is a shadow of himself are you or Celtic aware of any family problems !! he was caught in no mans land for the first goal at the Lane
Tom I dont know anyone at the club mate so cant comment on players family matters. All I know is that last season he claimed he was very happy with the welcome he recieved from Hammers fans.
It could just be a drop in form, lets hope he recovers from it
Celtic, there is the thought that the 4-3-3 that GFZ exposes both full backs and just doesn't suit Illungs or Faubert … we've spoken about Kovac but Faubert has had a good festive period too with having some support in front of him … I personally feel LBM has been as sorely missed as Neill
Tom to me both are more naturally wingbacks (or in Faubert's case a right winger) and are more used to operating further forward. Against teams who play with 4-4-2 and try and get the ball wide both are asked to operate in an area of the pitch that they are not most comforatble in.
Maybe with LBM last year Illunga had more protection and was able to get further forward. Faubert certainly has started to get to grips with the role he is asked to play and in the last few games he has been excellent.
With Ilunga definitely struggling I think its time to give Daprela a run out, he is a natural left full back and has been a revelation for his national side as well as putting in some very impressive performances for the reserves.
Tom – you are spot on. I've defended LBM on here longer than most. A lot of people do not see the work he puts in and how it helps the team as a whole.
In a fully fit squad, LBM would be on the left of my 5 man midfield and Faubert right and used as wing backs.
As for Ilunga – he was playing for a deal last season and may have given 10% more than this. My biggest concern is his positional play, or lack of. I don't recall this from last season, but then again he tended to get forward more last year?
Devo, I have liked LBM since this time last year when he turned Hull down … I was fortunate to meet him after the Middlesborough cup game where my nipper took a penalty and he had so much time for my lad … I also haven't forgot the last ditch tackles he threw himself at in the great escape season and not just the game at Old Trafford … I know celtic will cringe at me for this but we have sorely missed his play on the left side to balance us up … I honestly believe in WC year he would have been quite tidy for us … and whats never said is his name when we talk about injuries … its always Dyer, Ashton and co …. LBM and put in a bigger shift that Dyer is ever likely too
You don't have to convince me, Tom! Balance is everything in a football team and at the moment we don't have any. It is ironic that he had played himself back into the Portugal squad prior to his unfortunate injury.
He lives in the same (small) town as me and although I haven't bumped into him, others I know have and say the same thing as you – lovely fella.
Behrami was tackling all over the gaff mate, dunno what game you watched
The result was what I expected, however it was very disconcerting that we did not create one 100% clear cut chance.
Not surprising that Franco stated that he was really tired after playing two matches in three days for the first time in his career.
The game on Sun will be played by two basically reserve sides, however Arse will still have too much for us .
The side I predict will be Stech Spector Tomkins N’Gal Deprela Jimenez Diamanti Kovac Fry Nouble and Sears
I think kovac can play in a 5 man midfield but has he the legs to play center mid with Parker.
In a 4 sorry.

Chris – Against Portsmouth (and Chelsea for that matter) Kovac sat deeper allowing Parker to get forward more. It worked pretty well.
agreed roy, but i would rather play 4 4 2 with a good partner for cole and scarifice kovac for collison or Behrami.
Parker has certainly benefitted from Kovac in the side. I maintain that our personnel suits a 3-5-2. However, this would include Faubert & LBM as wing backs and Diamanti as an impact player.
Devo…. no one plays this system anymore.Coz its hard.
Saying that Harry got us playing 3 5 2 well,so maybe it would work but I cant see zola trying it.
I agree with you Chris, I have just commented to Devo above that I think the
4-1-4-1 suits both him and Parker and allows us to have some width …. however the sooner we have palyers available to play a 4-4-2 the better ..
Couldn't agree more Tom,,,,also yes width has been our prob all season, recently i've been watching Hartson's 1998 season where he was leading scorer with some 20 odd goals, every goal (near enough) was a ball received from a wide area, from Lazaridis Berkovic etc….If only ZOla had stuck with 4 4 2 bought a wide player and a center forward.
What 's with all these hamstrings at west ham? I suggest underlaying chadwell Heath with sponge.
Most injuries at this time of year are hamstring, chris – it's the cold. Normally affects the quicker players.
an't none of em heard of cycle bottoms, thermals etc…
Considering all the money the club supposedly invested on the medical staff and equipment, its shocking the amount of injurys we are getting. I'd ask for our money back!
Over here spanish players never have these problems. Its simply the weather conditions…wet/cold/heavy pitches….not good for playing or training in.
All low marks apart from Tomkins, cant say that anyone deserved more. It was a pityfull team effort.
Arry Redkrapp is loving it at the moment, even had a cheek to slag us Hammers fans off to the press. Well lets see if he is as smug when he goes down for a stretch for tax dodging. Pity they couldn't pin him down on all the bungs he surely must have accepted, allegedly..
The Premier League is a very unfair an imbalanced league.Top 4 or 4 clubs virtually spend what they want picking up the best players from the poorer ones and you get uneven scores Manu-Wigan,Arse-Pompey.Most of the bottom half of the table are limited by lack of funds to compete so really when you have sides full of mis-fits,has-beens and no money to improve The Hammers ,realistically will, unless we inherit a very wealthy benefactor( A LA Jack Walker)will put on a good show on occasions but consistently wont have the squad size or class to ever challenge for any honours unless the pockets or borrowing power can be bigger than most.
I hate seeing the cherry picking of our best talents that has been allowed by shite owners and I sincerely hope that pig ,Terence Brown, is not in anyway shape or form associated with the winning bid, help us if he is!
Just read on kumb that Tony Fernandez is favoured by most hammers fans rather than G&S and Intermarket, I like the sound of him but doubt if he has enough money to make it a success. Kumb seem quite down on the Intermarket group, anyone know why? and does anyone know more about the people behind Intermarket are they Hammers fans? Celtic??
Stevie InterMarket have kept things very close to their chest about who exactly the dedicated Hammers fans that make up their consortium are which makes me think that possibly there is quite a number of wealthy individuals rather than a hand full of mega rich tycoons similar to the Drumaville consortium who previously owned Sunderland but probably with more members and more cash.
Of course it could simply be a front for a single individual who wishes to remain in the background until the club is bought. Why would an individual wish to remain anonymus through out this process? Any number of reasons but to start listing them would simply be idle speculation!
Thanks Celtic would it be ok to ask who your preference would be out of the three interested parties? I think I remember you saying that you were not overly keen on G&S. Personally Intermarket sound quite interesting but we don't seem to know enough about them.
Stevie in an ideal world Tony Fernandes would have enough money to buy the club outright on his own as he is someone I greatly admire. He has grown a business in the hardest hit sector in the middle of the worst global recession in living memory. However as he doesnt have the cash he is a non starter.
Gollivan are a simple no go. End of story.
InterMarket seem to be a great option, but the lack of transparency about who is behind it gives me pause for thought. That said they have conducted themselves in a very professional manner since the out set and have shown excellent business practice. They have announced at every stage what they intend to do and then simply got on with it. They said they were interested, they said the would show proof of funds, they said they would enter a non disclosure period and they said they would lodge a formal bid and thus far they have put their money where their mouth is.
They do seem a good fit with the club and what is being done at the moment and if they are genuinely composed of Hammers fans then the clubs best interests will be paramount. I am really hoping that those involved are revealed before the take over is formalised
It's only a rumour, but the word is Tony Cottee is involved with Intermarket.
I've heard this as well. Would be great as he is West Ham through and though and would make decisions with the best interests of this club at heart. From what he's been saying, I also believe that Tony Fernandes may actually be part of the Intermarket group.
Hi all. I haven't commented here before (despite lurking for about a year) but would like to ask if you know what the format is for the fit and proper person test where a consortium is involved?
Strikes me that all our troubles started with Kia Joorabchien, in the sense that had he been able to take over the club as I am sure he had planned, then Tevez would not have had a 3rd party involvement in his contract, and I believe that was down to the 'fit & proper person' test. (Please correct me if I'm barking up the wrong tree)
People have suggested that the consortium may well put money into transfers before such time as a takeover can be fully made. Would that leave us open to the same problems, (or maybe other problems), if the fit & proper person test could not be passed or the consortium was not accepted on some other ground by Straumer?
Having witnessed the carnage at Portsmouth & Notts County, Tony, I would suggest that whatever the format is, it isn't robust enough!
Tony I have commented on this and while it is complicated I dont believe it would actually effect the players registration. I know I joked about InterMarket ended up with a superb company football team but the fact is that any players bought during the transfer window would be registered to WestHam and not InterMarket.
If for any reason the takeover broke down after players were bought all that would happen is that the club and its current owners would then be liable for the monies advanced by the bank to fund the player purchases.
The likelihood of the takeover breaking down during this stage is very slim as both sides would have already agreed the details of the deal and due dilligence would have been carried out.
As for the Premier League's fit & proper persons test, Osama Bin Ladin could sail through that. Its a disgrace and its failure to protect clubs is what has lead the like of Liverpool and ManU to the brink of a financial abyss that they now find themselves at.
Apparently T.Brown(ex chairmen) is involved in one group, Magnusson (ex chairmen) wants back in, T.Fernandes (supports club , so maybe involved as a partner) plus Cottee. All maybe part of intermarket bid as a joint venture they cannot afford as individuals. The hidden identity stuff unnerves me and makes me feel uneasy…what have they got to hide with being upfront and open???????
Brown sold us for around 85 mill and left us with a tevez timebomb..no thanks.
Magnusson messed up our finances buying injured/oaps with no resale value players, on big wages…no thanks
Fernandes cannot run a formula 1 team and us at the same time properly…i would like him involved as he is a fan.
Cottee…..left us for the north west (everton) without much fuss…now he seems a whu expert in local press….not a bonds or brooking type…not for me.
If this lot are involved in intermarket…..give me the porn kings…imo
I think Jiminez was VERY lucky to get a score of almost 4 – comfortably the worst performance i've seen since Rigobert Song – he made Tristan look mobile.
It's still worth remembering that Zola was making big noises pre-season about building the team around Jiminez which might say a bit about Zola's ability to spot a player……..
As for the Kovac debate – i though he had an ok game vs Spurs but he is basicaly a destructive defensive midfileder in the Makalele mode – that's great when you are Chelsea and surrounded with forwards like Lampard, Duff and Robben but it doesnt work in our set up as (should he win the ball) he has no one running forward to play it to. and therefore has to seek a more dificult pass. Hence he loses the ball a lot and we all think that he is rubbish. He is more effective at home as Parker, Collison and Diamanti are then running ahead of him.
Good points Jolly. I said earlier that the biggest problem against Spuds was that every time we got the ball forward it came straight back which added to the pressure on the defence. Ironically, it was why Tomkins had a good game as it gave him a lot to do. Although it has showed in the past few games, it was on Monday where the absence of Carlton Cole was most seen. He would have won his share of balls in the air and would have held it up giving a chance for the midfield to get forward in support and take some of the pressure off the back four.
Lets be Honest to get 6 six we need to be looking like this…
……….Green………..
Behrami…Tomkins….????…..?????
????…Parker…..Collison…..LBM(maybe)
…………Cole……….?????……..
Top 6..sorry
Green
Behrami…Tomkins…Terry…Zambrotta..
Ronaldo…Parker…Collison….Messi
….Cole…..Torres……
That a do.
I'd try to fit in Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas Chris. Although maybe only as squad players.
We Have 18 games left 6 of which I don't expect to get anything from leaving 12 with max points of 36 that means IF we won all the others we still only finish on 44pts.If no new faces are brought I can't see us doing it,
What do you all think ?
If we do then this would be a far greater atchivement than the great escape IMO.
54 mate ,it is early …
certainly is 12 x 3 = 36 perhaps you should read the post again ? LOL
36 +18 = 54
?
36 (points available from winnable games according to chris) + 18 (points we currently have) = 54
I know it's early but come on lads!!
You've been drinking again.
Reading through the papers, seem's everyones after scotty,I tell yuh if he's sold I'm not going another flippin game!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It will not renew my season ticket and I mean it.
I don't care if we sell Green Upson or even Cole ,but Scotty no no no no !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy New Year boys from all the Hammers in Sunny Queensland,IN ZOLA WE TRUST!
Aussie New Years greetings from a rain soaked half frozen Ireland.
Grrrrrrrrr!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you too Graham but lose the mantra!!!!!
I know we are desperate for strikers at the moment but it appears that Freddie Sears will go straight into the squad for the Arsenal game at the weekend. As Freddie hasn't scored in 17 games for Palace (apart from the goal that never was against Bristol City) I can't see him delivering the goods against far better team than those he has been playing against.
I think Zola has got to give Nouble a start but I fear we could be in for a real tonking on Sunday.
Hi guys, just a quick note to say that baby sam (boy) was born last night at 22:34 and as of now both mummy and baby are it and healthy!

Warm congratulations, Matt, and here's a tip…
My experience of lullabies is that you can't beat Bubbles.
Many is the time I have volunteered to take a screaming infant and performed the magic of nursing them back to sleep with a low, slow rendition.
And if you're watching a match on telly and West Ham are struggling to score, just take the babe into another room or out into the garden and the lads are guaranteed to score. Works every time.
Thanks mate! Haven't tried the bubbles one yet but…….
Harry Redknapp was on Sky Sports this morning and baby was sick! lol
A match where we are losing or striggliong to score? Never! lol
It seems Toni has joined Roma on loan till the end of the season. Doubtless the press will sound this as a devestating blow to the club but I dont think we were ever seriously in for the guy. Shame as he brings the ability to score goals where ever he goes.
It was never a goer CH – we had nothing to offer him in terms of salary or competition. He's a top quality striker even at his age and was never going to trade European football for a relegation dogfight.
I think it is more likely that we will sign someone none of us have ever heard off, aged around 33, with the pace of a carthorse, the trapping ability of a wall and the goal scoring record of Emile Heskey!
Jolly thats how people described Franco and he hasnt turned out too bad!
Still if new owners come in (as long as it isnt Gollivan) I would expect at least one marquee signing as a statement of intent to the fans!
I see that Roman Abramovich has swapped the loans he gave to Chelski for equity in the club. This is exactly what BG did with WestHam Holdings. Its also the reason the press have been banging on about debts of well over £100M at the club. WestHam Holdings reported a loss of £82M for its last trading year but it had exchanged the £82M it loaned the club for equity in the club itself. Thats a simplistic explanation but it is what I have been saying for sometime with regard to how BG treated the club and how I was certain our debts were around the £37M mark.
CH – pardon my apparent stupidity but how do you swap loans for equity in a business you alreacy own?
This is very interesting. An article on the Knees up Mother Brown site.

Does Fernandes know something that we don't? He seems very confident about West Ham's (hopefully) impending stability
Filed: Thursday, 31st December 2009
By: Staff Writer
Tony Fernandes has told Hammers fans that he believes stability is just around the corner.
45-year-old Fernandes, who has been linked with a bid for West Ham United is narrowly leading a KUMB.com ownership poll, where he is currently a handful of votes ahead of nearest rivals David Gold and David Sullivan.
And speaking exclusively to KUMB.com earlier today, the CEO of AirAsia suggested that he feels the club are not too far from achieving 'stability' – whilst once again refusing to rule himself out of the running to succeed CB Holdings.
In a message to supporters, Fernandes said: "We share a common belief that West Ham deserves better and a common love for the club. Ït has had a bad run of luck but I think we have a fantastic manager and great management team.
"Let's see how the next few weeks pan out, but I am very sure stability will soon return to the club and from that West Ham can build on that stability. I really believe Zola can be one of the greatest managers in football given stability.
"Happy new year to all Hammers. Good luck to us all at Arsenal and see you at Wolves."
Is KUMB the new site for all the West Ham world exclusives??
Why hasn't Ferandes said this to the papers, sky sports etc???
Saying that lets hope something happens on Monday.
What about the WHUofficial site or will all be revealed MondaY???
I read that on KUMB too. They managed to get hold of him and he
exclusively said nothing. Personally I don't get it. What was the point of
the article? It should have been entitled "Businessman states the bleedin' obvious".
I like the sound of Fernandes. He may not appeal to everyone but he seems to me to have a bit of flair, excitement and real money about him. He's worked in big organisations and appears to have serious business nous. I hope he figures in the new order at the club.
Pau, l Fernandes on his own hasnt got the cash to buy the club outright on his own which is a shame as I think he would make a fantastic owner for the club. I had hoped he would be part of the Intermarket group but it doesnt seem to be so.
I would prefer Alan Partridge in charge of the club compared with a bankrupt bank
Jolly the holding company and the club are two seperate legal entities therefor the holding company loans money to the club and instead of looking for repayments the club issues more shares which are then given to the holding in lieu of repaying the money. It has the effect of increasing the value of the share captial of the club while legally writing off the debts. The loan is in essence treated as the consideration for the new shares.
Whatever anybody has said on here about a takeover by G/S and anyone else in the frame or not & sticking with our current Icelandic owners. I would take anything to whatever is happening down at Portsmouth with so called arabian millionaires.
It is implloding into oblivion and financial meltdown & nothing appears to be able to stop it.
It just does not make sense. Only time will tell!!!
Seems there's arab millionaires (Citeh – money no object) and arab 'millionnaires' (Pompey – can't pay the wages). I'm sure Pompey fans thought their troubles were over when they changed owners but, as you say, all they've got is meltdown. From our pov, I'd still go with Fernandes rather than G&S.
Paulo, totally agree with you but I would have G/S if no other choice.
Hello Paul ans Fishy,
What are the pro's and con's of each then?
Why Fernandes over G&S?
Either would suffice if I had no other choice
However I would not like to be in P'mouth
shoes or should that read BOOTS!
If you look at the Brum fans' blogs you'll see that G&S were not popular, managing the club on a shoestring, without really investing in the the playing side. Brum became a yo yo club without having much of a chance of premier success. Lot of Brum fans seem to think they bled the club dry. Since they've gone the club seem to have prospered. Coincidence? I dunno but there's been a rapid about turn in fortunes since G&S left. Besides, Sullivan is/was a Spurs investor – need I say more?!
Could someone please help me out here. I know of Tony Fernandes and obviously know of Sullivan and the Gold brothers, whose net worth (admittedly under a quick inspection) out strips Fernandes by a country mile. But who are Intermarket's main players? Jim Bowe and? Also where are they based, pay tax?
All very well have someone with deep pockets, but can they do the job?
Jim Bowe is a former head of the New York Board of Trade and a very widely respected Wall Street player. InterMArket have office in the US and London and are a financial analysis company.
As yet there have been no clear indication as to who is part of the consortium other than the statement from InterMarket that it was made up of WestHam fans who had made a lot of money and now wanted to take over the club
Cheers CH. So we know nothing really then, apart from "financial analysis", and for that you could probably put "shxte hawks". With all of this financial turmoil, not just at the club but globally, I would want to take out all the unknowns.
Every one says that they would like to have City's or Chelsea's money but realistically you can see what happens to these clubs as soon as these club go down this route. Even with Mega-billionaires we would not win the league, and would we want too? Just listen to Chelsea fans go on. They don't even realise there own place. Self inflated BS!
The trouble is when the new owners take over the amount of money required just to stand still in the premier league is just obscene. Fernandes has $250m (as you have said can't buy the club himself),
The Golds & Sullivan £750m between the four of them. Who is going to pay £100m, clear debt (it'll never happen any way, it's business after all, the debt stays) and the invest? I don't blame the G&S trying it on with a cheeky take over. In my view it would not be the end of the world if they did take over.
Let us all end the year on a high. Not only have Sky Sports awarded us No.1 in Best 100 Goals in the Premier League. We now have No.1 in Best Goal of the Decade. __And WHO is No.1??? Non other than MR Paulo DiCanio himself.__Long live PDC.__I hope that we will all be singing I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles in 4 days time!!! WATCH this SPACE! LOL!__A HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL!!!!
Evening all – the tranfer window opens in 3 hours time and, as usual, our best players will be linked with everyone from Scott Parker to Stoke (laugh – i almost weed myself!) to Matty Upson to Liverpool (they're more skint than we are!) and everyone else in between.
So i'm gonna stick my neck out and say this……..
Look at who's not getting a game at Spuds, Liverpool, Chelsea, Citeh and Man Utd and they're good be a few decent deals to be done.
Spurs want Parker? Ok – we'll have Bentley and Pavlechenko in return.
Liverpool want Cole? Ok – we'll have Benayoun and Babel.
Citeh want Upson? Ok – we'll have Zabaleta, Michael johnson and Caicedo.
This may seem a bit strange but i think we COULD let our best players go and end u with a better team – although the wages may be struggle. However deals can be structured where the other clubs still pay a % of the salaries – if they want our players, they'll have to pay.
Happy new year to all.
Sorry mate. No to all 3 of those deals!
HNY!
Devo – no one is indespensable.
Cole/Upson/Parker out but Bentley, Pavlechenko, Johnson, Caicedo, Zabaleta, Benayoun and Babel in – sorry YOU are wrong – thats a team already guaranteed a top half finsh.
