Just 2 points to make very quickly:

    1. Before giving my scores can someone confirm or deny that Jiminez actually played?
    2. I thought (Diamanti and Tomkins aside) we were excellent value for our nil………………

  2. Saulie says:

I must admit, although I am a massive fan of Diamanti, he had a poor game tonight, tried to run his way through the left side and got shut down each time. Tomkins and arguably Faubert were great. Faubert really pushed up that right flank when everyone else seemed content to make a campfire in their own half.

He has a bit of something about him, Saukie, I agree, but he was lucky to stay on the pitch today and goes down too easily under a challenge. I would keep him back for Home games and substitutions away and start with somone else.

I'll say it again – with Luis Boa Morte in the side this season, we would be a lot higher up the league.

  3. That really was poor. Theyve forced Parker into playing, seemingly fudging the fitness test and to what effect?

I've never seen a team make thing look so difficult. Midfield was so crowded that they were tripping over each other and even having said that they were still incapable of making successful (but ultimately pointless) 2 yard passes between themselves.

They need to go back to basics on the trainging ground, the kind of stuff you teach kids, passing and controlling, how to play the easy ball and why you should never play balls across your own box.

Need to give Franco a rest- start nouble and possibly dixon. Spector and jimmenez very poor today. Behrarmi running round like a headless chicken. Kovac kept trying and didn’t go missing like other players wen the going gets tough. Keep it up kovac! Mom tomkins.

  5. LoftyPerch says:

Struggling to take one positive from the game. Green confirms my belief that he will be lucky to grab the third berth in Capello's World Cup squad.
Felt sorry for poor old Franco. Ran his nuts off (again) but it was an impossible mission with no service and no partner.
Game was over once Spuds scored. Best we consign this one to the memory rubbish bin.
Bring a calculator with you on Sunday if Arsenal turn up with a half decent side.
    MERRY BLOODY CHRISTMAS

    • DevoDevo says:

There were positives, Lofty. Tomkins, faubert & Upson had very good games. Kovac was the best midfielder – you wouldn't have said that a few weeks ago and the players battled on evn after we went 2 down. Considering the circumstances, you can't ask a lot more.

Negatives? Green's continued malaise (maybe he doesn't like the thought of South Africa?)

      Parker's injury.

      Left back.

      Jiminez.

I agree with Andys post on the previous thread about sending out a young team against arsenal. Chances are they will do the same so it could make for an interesting game.
I know we all love a cup run but the league is more important right now. We have winable games coming up now and it is our best chance to haul ourselves clear of the mire before hitting the big Europe chasing teams in the run in to the end of the season.

  7. DevoDevo says:

Why did Zola not bring on Nouble to give us some pace/height up front and why did he take off Collison and not Diamanti (who should have been sent off) or Jiminez (who looks overweight and disinterested)?

  8. HammersWest says:

I had Tomkins as my best player, thought Faubert was much improved, and Upson did a good job. Given that the heart of the team went off ,and we needed a second substitution for Ilunga I actually thought we did OK. They didn't seem to get organised till after the half time. Specs did not do too bad a job, a couple of luckily not disastrous errors but he dealt better with Lennon that Ilunga had been. I agree with Devo and can't see why Nouble did not get a run out, and why he didn't take Jimenez off is a complete mystery, maybe he didn't remember he was playing either!

I was at the game today and like Zola I feel proud of the West ham players. Why? Because we only played a couple days earlier, we have a small squad and we are severely undermined by injuries. Not to mention the fact that we lost two players early on, especially our best player, Parker. I witnessed a lot of spirit and determination today that will prevent us from being relegated. It is also good that Tompkins is playing well again. Lets play a lot of the youngsters against Arsenal and then lets stuff Wolves!!
