The Latest Club Accounts, Rush Green and Ron Greenwood

The Guardian has reported today that West Ham have delayed filing the company’s latest set of accounts until February.  They have put the worst possible spin on it, suggesting it is a  manoeuvre to avoid revealing problems with our income and the scale our debt prior to the opening of the January transfer window.  Perhaps there are reasons other than that?

Yet at the same time, the club has just confirmed its purchase and planned development of the Rush Green site as its new training & medical facility and Reserve team ground.  The Academy will remain at the club’s traditional training base at Chadwell Heath.   Would a football club in such alleged  serious financial difficulties be able to proceed with this development?    Would not their first concern be paying the wage bill, rather than purchasing land and investing in the development of new, top class training and medical facilities? Moreover, would they also retain Chadwell Heath as a separate Academy base if they desperately needed to raise additional revenue?

Finally, earlier this year I suggested that our new new training facility should be dedicated to Ron Greenwood’s unique coaching achievements and contribution to the success of the club and England’s 1966 World Cup victory.   Would it not be fitting to call it the Ron Greenwood Training Ground and erect a statute to a man who played such a giant role in our club history?

Absolutely delighted that those conceited potato boyz from North London haven't made it further in the competition

  2. FishySuffolk says:

Off topic and back on the Transfer Window saga reports are that we are looking at Standard Liege defender Landry Mulemo who is now down the pecking order and looking for a move possibly to the PL. We will know in 6wks where our real targets are.

I know Ron Greenwood was an integral part of of West Ham but what about Johnnny Lyall he won us 2 Fa cups got us to a Final of the Cup Winners cup and nearly won us the League in the 80,s.
I think Greenwood had Moore,Peters and Hurst but that team struggled for years after we won the cup and cup winners cup in the mid 60,s Lyall created an attacking exciting brand of football compared in the end to greenwood,s dour defensive style.
A case can be made for both managers but shows you from 1985-86 where we have not had first class manager sorry Pards you had lost the dressing room,Zola time will tell.

    • Jolly says:

Graham – without Ron Greenwood there would be no John Lyall. Greenwood was his mentor.
Bob Paisely is the most succesful manager in Liverpool's history but similarly without Shankley there is no Paisley – and the last time i checked they aint called the Paisely Gates!

Thanks for ALL the posts on this thread … I've enjoyed reading … keep it up, guys. This standard sets a good benchmark.

Off topic – but I guarantee capello will be at the match this w/e. If Parker reproduces his form of the last month and indeed, last season, will he be in his next squad?

Cheers for the financial updates chaps. It's always good to get some much more plausible and believable financial news than we get from the red tops. A mate of mine showed me the 2 sentances of mistaken rubbish in the Sun about our new training facility. Got their facts wrong again but I'm past caring! Hope Capello takes note of our stars against Man yooo and gives Parker the call up he deserves. Would be nice if Lampard lost his place to Scotty wouldn't it!!! I can dream!

Ray I reckon Barry could well lose his place to Parker. Barry has been distinctly average since his money grabbing move to Citeh and is only retaining his place because the press love him and they feel his transfer fee reflects his value.
Parker is miles better than either Barry or Carrick in the holding role for England. Of the 3 his distribution may be a little behind the other two (although as he showed at the weekend its improving) but his sheer work rate is incredible. There is no midfielder in the league who gets through the work he does in a game, he is brave, strong in the tackle and entirely selfless. Personally I feel that England have always suffered from too many movie stars in the team and too many wags in the stands. Off the pitch Parker isnt the type of player to court the limelight and is a model pro in every regard. On the pitch he puts the good of the team above his own ego in everything he does.
He deserves the captains armband at WestHam and he deserves a place in the England team.

Agree with all CH. We know there isn't much loyalty left these days, but I even think Parker would be with us for many years if he was given the band, and could potentially be up there with some of our past legendary leaders..time will tell. Every true Hammer seems to think he should be Skipper. Just can't get why GZ doesn't act. If Upson's off in Jan then he'll have to give it to him. Would be something to see SP lifting a bit of silverware for us….!

  7. LoftyPerch says:

Not a chance. Parker is playing well but more often than not he doesn't boss a game against the better sides. Not quite a flat-track bully, but all his better matches this season have been against bottom half opposition.
I predict a rating of no more than seven, more probably a six against Man U.

I am sure I can have an extended debate with one of your other logins is this one doesnt fancy it. Like the one you use to give yourself a thumbs up and mark me down.
As for your interpretation of the first sentence you quote above you're wrong what it means in the simplest of terms is "accept the deal you're offered or we wind the whole thing up and you get squat".
As for the second, the meeting in august was missing certain specifics which could only be entered into any plan after a discussion with all interested parties so changes would always have to be made once these things were agreed on.

    • Onme_edson says:

      CH,

You are getting ahead of yourself a bit mate, the take it or leave it and get next to nothing comes later in the document – that sentence means exactly what I have said it does.

Straumur thought they were presenting a 'fate acompli' as all they want to do is give rise to the new Straumur Investment Bank. The old one, Straumur-Bandras (or what ever it was called), which was the one BG and his son owned (which when nationalised and put into monitorium was then appointed with an administrative board – which incidently was a number of months before Straumur took control of BG's remaining assets, including us) is now being wound up, but unless it is done to the Composition plan, it means that the new Straumur cannot come into being (like the new Kaupthing and Landsbanki which have been renamed as well).

    • Onme_edson says:

In the plan put to the Creditors on 6th August, they gave two sets of figures, one for the plan – which would not pay out anything for at least 5yrs and one for liquidation of assets and closing down the bank (administration). Why do that if, as you say, it could not happen and why file for bankrupcy protetion in the US as well?

The first meeting was in depth and specific – what Straumur did not take into consideration (as they were focused on saving the bank), was that given the circumstances at the time, a number of the creditors were willing to take the loss, as they needed capital to keep themselves afloat ( those with Secured debts would still have got the same either way). This why a revised plan was mooted for consideration.

I would also point out that only 75% of the 250Mil Euros from subiquent realistion of assets, has been used in settling the Secured Debts – who do you think the remainder is earmarked for?

    • Onme_edson says:

Finaly, I do not have anyother logins on this site, so please do not accuse me of being underhand in that way, it only reflects badly on you – I do not and never have felt the need to 'big' myself up on any debating forums. I have neither thumbed you up or down, as although I disagree with some of your statements, you are at least being positive and reaching the same conclusions as myself.

Official site confirms Cole out for "weeks", although he doesn't need an op.

So, who would you play on saturday and what formation?

    I would go: 4-4-1-1

    Green
    Faubert
    Da Costa (Upson if fit)
    Gabbidon
    Ilunga

    Dyer
    Parker
    Noble
    Collison

    Diamanti (Stanislas if not fit)

    Franco

    Thoughts?

    • HammerRay says:

Looks good to me Devo. If Dyers form is as good as I've heard this could be the game for him to show us what he really can do! We have to get a final answer about his fitness too as we can't keep paying his wages for the occasional reserve appearance. Bring em on!

  10. FishySuffolk says:

Devo, If Diamanti is not back saturday Hines has to start with Nouble on bench as cover possibly Dixon but depends on how fit he is but certainly worth a run out

    • DevoDevo says:

      Fishy

I think if we play 2 up top we will get murdered. I would like to see Franco holding the ball up with support coming from Diamanti, Dyer & Collison. I would ask Noble to sit close to Parker and snuff out their midfield. If Behrami is fit I would have him on the bench.

I don't think Hines is ready to start these sort of games but is an ace up the sleeve when opposition players are tired.

Given Ilunga's current form, has anyone seen Daprela in the ressies ans is he up to replacing him?

  11. FishySuffolk says:

Pity Arsenal went out to City tonight bring up another derby match with Fergie
although cant see him wanting to lose in the semi.
AW not too happy although he said that it was not one of the major cups he was looking to win and then decided not to shake hands with Sparkie "I choose who I shake hands with" he said. Something wrong there.
Anyway Chelsea looking to go out as well after playing with 10 men having subbed all 3 in first half and then through injury in second.
with Blackburn 3-2 up in extra time making it a Brum derby with Villa

  12. FishySuffolk says:

    CHELSEA OUT!!!!!
    HOORAY!!!

  13. celtichammer says:

If Diamanti is out I would play Dyer behind Franco with Stan in midfield. Upson is out so the back 4 will probably be the same although I prefer Faubert to Spector. Neither can defend well but at least Faubert can get forward and whip in a few crosses.

  14. AussieGraham says:

Well wenger,s petulant display of poor sportsmanship is a major blockage in Arsenal as a club.It is only a game and when Mark Hughes went to shake his hand after the loss he was doing his best Usain Bolt impression down the exit door.Is that a French thing and if so he should be thoroghly ashamed of his behaviour and I hope we crush Arsenal in the Fa Cup and they go another season with no silverwear due to his bad sportsmanship!

  15. AussieGraham says:

West Ham are meant to be in advanced talks with Luca Toni is that good or is he another old crock looking for some mug to pay him what he is not worth surely Chamakh would be more logical?
