Jack Collison: Player of Season So Far

For lack of anything better to do on a lazy, rainy Sunday afternoon, I thought I would calculate the averge player performances over the first twelve games of the season. I had imagined Carlton Cole would have topped the chart, but no, it’s Jack Collison. Well done to Jack! I have only included players who have played at least 5 games.

Jack Collison 6.98
Carlton Cole 6.77
Robert Green 6.76
Valon Behrami 6.59
Scott Parker 6.58
Alessandro Diamanti 6.55
Julien Faubert 6.49
Luis Jimenez 6.37
Zavon Hines 6.34
James Tomkins 6.17
Junior Stanislas 6.16
Herita Ilunga 6.03
Matthew Upson 6.03
Mark Noble 5.59
Jonathan Spector 5.23
Radoslav Kovac 5.21

I am surprised by Matthew Upson’s lowly showing, and also that Zavon Hines isn’t higher. But it is interesting that all but three players are avering between 6.03 and 6.98. Perhaps that is a reflection of our mediocre season so far. But I remain of the view that Carlton Cole deserves a much higher rating than 6.77.

I’ll revisit this chart at Christmas.

    Matt,
The club have recently renegotiated its loan facilties sucessfully. I would love to hear who these "creditors" are. Seeing as our loan facilities were in fact £30M I would be interested to hear some numbers on our reported other debts.
The club also appointed Rothschild and Standard bank to recruit investors to the club. My guess is this is based on a belief by CB Holdings that the club needs money for players and they would rather it was raised in time for the next window which may not be possible through Straumur due simply to there not being sufficent time before the window closes.

Ok mate! I'm saying what I said was gospel, all I can say is that it came from a reliable source who is usually pretty spot on!

As you know I have said all along that the club would be sold by Xmas and this is partly the reason why!

I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

The source also informed me about "2 amazing Argentines joining the club" :)

    Now for Matt's post –

Worrying times indeed. But i think this may be PR spin and brinkmanship from one of the takeover sides – in the hope of making the deal happen sooner rather than later.

I can't truly believe that CBH will allow the club to enter administration as a ten point penalty ENSURES relegation and a £100m commodity with £50m of debt becomes a £50m commodity with £100m of debt – it's accounting madness.

    • MattRyan says:

It might not be correct but it's not a PR spin mate as teh info came from a West Ham associate!

I didn't think that CB would let us go into administration either but sometimes, there is just no alternative after all other avenues are exhausted!

We've had so many rumours that have turned out to be unsubstantiated that I find it hard to believe that this is not just another one of those. I would go along with Jolly's comments.

  4. MattRyan says:

And I have no idea who the creditors are but apparently there are some!

    • celtichammer says:

sorry mate but if anything has become more obvious lately its that the clubs financial situation is no where near as bad as the press tried to make out. Would we benefit from a cash rich buyer? yes of course we would!
Do we need one to survive? no we dont.
I will stake my reputation on this point.
If we were staring down the barrel of administration in 6weeks then the press would be all over it.
Whoever gave you this info, no matter how well intentioned they are is wrong. If they are as connected as they claim then they can offer something more concrete to support their claims.

Ok mate, as I have said, I can only share what I have been told! nothing may come of it! or we could be billionaires in a few weeks, I just don't know! lol

As for asking for evidence from my family member, that's a bit wrong! lol And even if I did ask him, he'd tell me to sod off! He shoudln't even know what he does! lol

Can I take credit Iain for this post as I mentioned doing this every 10 games or so a few blogs back! My only observation would be (for example) that the injuries suffered by Collison an Behrami mean they have played less games than Cole & Upson so the average score will be greater for those players. Nonetheless an interesting result.

As disappointing as it was to see us surrendering a 2 goal lead, we still need to get behind the team. Having a go at the players & manager only serves to disrupt what little confidence the team has at the moment.

As for takeovers, I will believe it when I see it!

I told you, believe it! Don't believe it! No skin off my nose either way! :)

    We'll see on Dec 7th!

    • Jolly says:

      Or hopefully we won't……….(!!)

    • Basildon_Bob says:

Matt, my “I will believe it when I see it” coment wasn’t a dig, I truly hope that you are right, but until it is signed sealed and delivered I will remain impartial, otherwise I getting all worked up and Mrs Basildon has to calm me down. Fair play to you though for keeping us all informed.

      • MattRyan says:

Oh no probs mate! I wasn't aiming any response at anyone in particular! :) I just knoew a few would shoot it down, so I figured I'd share it and let you all do what you desire with the info :)

Thanks for the response though mate!
