FA Verdict Due on West Ham-Millwall

The Times has reported that the FA will shortly decide whether to charge West Ham and Millwall for the disturbances before and during the second round Carling Cup match at Upton Park.

One option is that the FA warn and fine both clubs for failing to control their supporters.  West Ham, as the home side, could also receive an additional punishment of playing a home game behind closed doors.  Ultimately, a lot will depend on whether the FA are convinced that West Ham had put in place adequate stewarding and security arrangements within the ground?

Alternatively, the FA may accept that both clubs did everything possible to control their fans and note that strong post-match action has been taken against those involved in the pitch invasions.  To date, West Ham have allegedly slapped life bans on ten ‘fans’ identified via the publication of  their photographs.  In addition, other transgressors, similarly caught on camera, will continue to be pursued through the use of the same methods.

The spotlight is also likely to focus upon the policing of the match, including the decision to limit the number of match tickets for Millwall fans.  There is also a suggestion that Police planning for the match was inadequate,  considering the reputation of the fixture.  Worryingly, the Millwall camp have alleged that their security staff were not adequately involved in the pre-match planning.

An additional issue under consideration is the alleged racial abuse directed at West Ham’s Carlton Cole and Millwall’s Jason Price.  If proven it is hoped that both clubs take a similarly strong line.  Such behaviour must be seen to be strongly challenged and appropriate action taken to address it.

All we can do now is await the FA verdict and any possible consequences for the club!

I think the fairest punishment would be to ban us from the Carling Cup this year.

  2. Jolly says:

I think we can expect some fairly draconian punishment to be coming our way. We are, by and large, still quite unpopular with the media and general football community post Tevezgate and this charge may give the FA an opportunity to win some praise.

I would expect both clubs to be found guilty – Millwall to get a light slap of a fine (approx £10k) and us to be hit with a massive fine of around £250k,
If the FA REALLY want to punsih us – they will find Millwall innocent of all charges.

  3. Ghammer says:

Never going to be a £250k fine, both teams will be fined £20-30k each, warned of further conduct and west ham will be given an additional £10-20k coz they were at home, job done

  4. IronRik says:

I suspect that both clubs will get fined ( us more than them) and West Ham ( maybe Millwall as well) will get some kind of susended sanction, for example playing behind closed doors, should anything like this happen again.
Which I think would be fair enough to be honest.

As long as we dont draw millwall again in the cup
Then its a free for all scenario for the FA
      Millwall @ home
      WH @ home
      LOL!!!

  5. MattRyan says:

Both clubs should be fined! But ONLY for what happened inside the stadium! The clubs cannot be held responsible for what happed outside the stadium by the scum on the streets! That was teh Mets responsibility and they should ALSO be fined!

I think Millwall should get a much punishment as West Ham, I know it was us that invaded the pitch but it was that scum that ripped our stadium apart!

£50k fine each and suspended sentence!

Well we've already played a game behind closed doors………….at Bolton.

8,000 punters and 1200 of them were Hammers fans.

  8. There were a lot of reports following the trouble showing every little bit of crowd trouble across the UK. This shows they will probably feel obliged to make a significant example of both clubs. Although I have heard they are going to be holding back on being too harsh as the most serious issues were outside the ground. The fact that West Ham co-operated so heavily with Police seems to have worked in our favour too.

In all fairness, West Ham have done a LOT to rectify what happened! Not too sure what Millscum did but at least we are trying to make ammends!

    Just read this:-

West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola would consider signing Sol Campbell if he needed to add an experienced defender to his squad.

Campbell quit Notts County earlier this week meaning the 35-year-old is not allowed to join a new club until January.

"It would depend on whether you needed him, but he's a good player with experience and he's got everything," said Zola.

"If I was in need of an experienced player, I would think of him."

    I hope NOT!!!!!

  12. FISHY says:

According to reports Luca Toni is still in our sights as well as Candreva from Livorno
and Blunt from West Brom. Also Carroll & Taylor from Newcastle. If there is any truth in these rumours January should be a busy time for shopping as long as they are all on special offer. Lol!!!

    • I have seen and posted on the same reports relating to Candreva, (who we are fighting over with Murinho) and Toni (signing fee only issue) will be on a £3mill per year deal. Fingers crossed. Suppose all cannot happen as Zola wants a small squad, perhaps sales of Collison and Upson will allow this?

Oh you mean like that busy august???? lol

  14. Salesh says:

Outside the ground police's job. So no blame should be on west ham or millwall for this.

Inside, it was our fault. Lack of police in the ground. However if there was more police there still would have been trouble is its kind of hard to determine how was needed.

I doubt the punishment will be closed door game, most likely just be a slap on the hand and fine, but if the FA want to make a example they will most likely do it on us :P

Yeah we're always in for people when it's to late.

  16. Dokièh says:

I don't what should be the punishment, but what do you think it'd be if this happened to Man U or Chelsea? Haha, come on…they wouldn't get any ban!!

I see that the FA are not taking any action against Manure for the fan invading the pitch after the Manchester derby. Ok, it was only one idiot but it still means that they failed to control the fans by allowing this to happen. There might have been more (quite a few) who made it onto the pitch against Millwall but the offence is still the same, just less severe. It's like someone speeding at 35 mph and another at 60mph. Both committed offences.
Also, no action will be taken for a "missile" being thrown at a City player.
As usual, it's one rule for some and another for others.

  18. i dont understand this at all.25,000 fans in side the game(ish) and if you want to stop them running on the pitch you have to go back and put the fences up again!!! unless you want 1 steward to every fan then its imposible to stop it.oh and that steward has to be able to over power the suporter they have been put in charge of !!! madness !!!! west ham cannot be held responsible . you put everything in place stewards/police but you can never stop the larger number doing what they wanted to do! the only people that hould be punished are the ones they catch.not west ham.as for what happened outside the ground the police set that up and made it a lot worse than it should have been.you can defuse a situation a lot easier than what they did.and they are the experts???? yer right !

  19. Horters says:

I can't see what more the club could have done inside the ground. They doubled the amount of stewards on duty, made efforts to restrict the tickets to Millwall, flagged potential problems to the Police and warned all and sundry there would be agg.

It's clear we must still pay a heavy penalty, but for once I do feel for the management who were far from complacent. Policing numbers were shockingly limited, particularly inside the ground.

  20. ps im not sure i like being 27p !!! wtf is that all about?
