Liverpool Match Thread

Think of me living it up at the Grosvenor House Hotel, while you’re watching a famous West Ham victory. I am devastated I cannot get to the game, but sometimes needs must.

Please use this thread for a conversation before and during the game.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooo!

    Balls! Torres!

    Come on boys. grab draw!

  3. Unfortunately, Green's back line has let him down today.

  4. celtichammer says:

why are we floating aimless balls in when we are getting nothing out of them?

  5. celtichammer says:

I think Nouble might have been a better option than Dyer who has contributed little since coming on. At least with Nouble we would have had support for Cole who has faded badly in the last 15mins.
I keep telling myself that we have been victims of bad luck and worse refereeing but it seems to be a theme for us so far this season.

  6. celtichammer says:

That ref is a sodding disgrace!

  7. Shropshire says:

Gutted. Never nice losing, but even worse when it's the Scousers.

  8. Man of the Match for us had to be Zavon Hines. Other than his giveaway that lead to Torres first goal, he didn't do a thing wrong all match and he was our best attacker. Cole has good spurts but his work rate leaves something to be desired and he was little more than useless for the last 15 minutes.

Despite losing the match I think Zola will be pleased with what he saw. Had the injuries not occurred our players wouldn't have been so exhausted by the end. We really missed Upson (thank God we didn't sell him) and Kovac and Dyer didn't help much. Would've much rather seen Stanislaus instead of either of them.

MOTM is definitely Hines, Parker has to be a close 2nd. What a workhorse! What is the deal with us being sooo unlucky with injuries and less then tepid refs?

  10. SoCalHammer says:

Diamonds ran out of gas. What will he be like when fit though? Cant wait to see that.

I thought excellent first half but faded 2nd..looked tired. Injuries not help obviously.
Thought noble a dissap, but rest did well overall. Thought Faubert our best player with parker and hines just behind. Hines faded but given right kicking first half so hardly surprising. Ref seemed to have in for cole and even when facing three liverpool defenders, it was him nearly always penalised. With new and returning players from injury being taken into account…i think we saw enough positves overall to see improvement in coming weeks.
Felt we deserved something for 1st half performance alone.

I think you have summed it up quite nicely Tony.
We sure did miss Upson when he went off, shame that Collins wasn't still with us, as I think we would have probably won both subsequent headers, we will never know.
Faubert was very good again. That tackle on Gerrard was 1st class.
Real weak link was Noble, such a shame, but he needs a break. Kovac had his moments, but that pass near the end summed him up, just not good enough.
Parker was immense, last week's display well and truly put behind him.
Diamanti will only get better. He could be a real star, as could Hines be. Excellent display until he tired.
Still not sure what to make of Cole. He did work hard, but also run out of steam, but some of his distribution was just not good enough.
Overall a good effort, but we can't afford to give sloppy goals away against the likes of Liverpool.

Cole's work rate leaves something to be desired? What game were you watching?

  13. Alfred Levin says:

Yeah, some interesting moments, even though we don't seem to have that extra gear.. yet.. lets bring it on! Cool of Hines.. a real nice game!

  14. tevezgate says:

I've only just watched the game, we were value for the draw imo. By far the worst aspect of it was the shockingly biased coments from Chris Waddle – who had the nerve to criticise Hines for hitting the post… a bit rich from the man who lost us the 1990 WC semi final ;)

  15. I must say Zavon Hines could be a superstar all the Scousers did was try to break his legs and with stronger and consistent refereeing they are reduced to 10 men.At the moment we are not getting a lucky break but Zola in a suit and tie he even looks like a mafioso manager can be mighty proud of the display against one of europe,s best teams. Our fitness for the last 20 minutes was lacking but against a lot of the sides we will play we are home and hosed by then.Diamond geezer,s double hit penalty kick was brilliant and he is unorthodox and will be an asset.Poor old nobes looks like a shot duck no confidence, dyer well the writing is on the wall .Yeah we keep losing but review the situation if we can get new ownership because look at our costliest signing against most other premier league teams if we could afford to buy a Torres or Tevez these are the type of players who can take us to higher playing standards but if the investment is not there we cant possibly grow.Give Zola credit he can recruit and attract these players because of the respect he has and he can improve them but in the real world money in a 10 year footballers career will always win.We love our Hammers and quite frankly I love the fact our future is looking good and we can only go onwards and upwards keep the faith be proud anyone can buy success even all of the armchair pundits struggle with their fantasy teams and therefore just keep the faith ,why? cos we love The Hammer,s that,s why you watch! So the bottom line ,new owner,s, bigger investment in quality player,s better results!

Boys, to be honest I would rather the win than oohing and aahing over the performance, cos at the moment we are just losing and have Man City to face next week, who are scoring goals for fun. The reality is we are no nearer new owners than a year ago, we do not have a 1st team squad of depth, we do not have a strong strike force and we're not getting any kind of results at the moment, so whilst I will be a Hammer til the day I die, and believe that GFZ and SC have been brilliant for us, I cannot shrug my shoulders and laugh it off as part and parcel of being a Hammers fan, I expect more from them. I expect them to be good enough to beat the likes of Wigan and looking at Liverpool in midweek saw nothing that we shouldn't have been able to cope with and come away with at least a point but we have lost both matches and I am very worried.
