Agree with that, great if collson had scored but him and stanlislas are ahowing great potential. Good to see faubert playing well.
To be honest, and I coudl be wrong! But I listened to the game of 5Live and it seems like although Collison had a good game, people have voted for him for his guts and bravery rather than his performance!
He had a great game but I think Stan and maybe Hines should have pipped him to it!
Or maybe Kovac!
lol
Completely disagree with tomkins score, far too high. He won very little in the air, his lofted balls rarely got to junior and he completely ignored the right all game. In the end Nouble had to come into the middle to get a touch.
The introduction of Hine really made a big difference, although it perhaps conincided with the team’s realisation that slow long ball football wasn’t working. I think Cole has been doing an admirable, at times unbelievable, job up front, but he desperately needs a supporting striker. The midfielders were not supporting him in the second half as they probably should, and he looked ever so isolated with only checking runs or difficult turns available to him; if only he had more midfielders busting a gut to get forward, although that did happen in the second half and it was nice to see Faubert really giving it his all at times.
Last season the partnership of Cole and Di Michele actually worked pretty well (with the latter I think really falling off when the pressure fell on him and Tristan). As has been said a thousand times, we need new strikers to support Cole, but Hines and Stanislas look like fantastic new youth players who both have great potential.
I agree with most of the ratings, although I would have pushed Tomkins and Parker a bit lower down beneath Green and Cole. Parker started well but perhaps seemed a little tired near the end, which was perhaps a sign of his work rate, but he wasn’t providing good enough movement at times to help the back four work the ball forward, leaving the long ball as the main option – he’s always a tough tackler though!
Unbelievable performance by Collison, the strength of the lad is remarkable. I really wish his shot off the post had gone in for him.
I don’t mean to harp on about it but THIS is disgusting!
West Ham striker Carlton Cole has responded to allegations of racist abuse at Upton Park by telling Millwall fans: “I might be as strong as a gorilla but I’m not a monkey.”
Visiting supporters were heard aiming monkey chants at the 25-year-old England striker, who appeared to gesture back at them when substituted towards the end of a night where there were scenes of violence in and around the ground.
Referee Paul Taylor may not have noticed the abuse amid the chaos to put in his report to the Football Association – but Cole did not miss it, and said: “I heard it but it’s football. I don’t care. I know I’m not a monkey. You’ve just got to carry on and get on with it and we got the result. That was the main point, the fans got what they deserved.”
Millwall have issued a statement following the emergence of a racial element to a shocking Carling Cup second-round tie.
A statement from the League One side read: “Millwall FC condemns racist abuse by supporters of both sides on Tuesday night.
“There is no place for racism in society and both Millwall and West Ham work tirelessly in our respective communities to tackle this problem.”
Condemning “both sides” implies home fans being at fault too, with reports of Millwall’s Jason Price also being targeted.
The poll is about right. Hines and Cole could be the little and large ideal partnership in the next couple of seasons. Now, we need two new strikers. Cole won’t be able to play every game, neither will a new signing, so two is needed. If we get one is another question.
I know most of you don’t want him! But it looks like we are getting Diamanti!
This from Sky Sports
Livorno have landed Mozart and Nelson Rivas as they use some of the money they are getting from the sale of Alessandro Diamanti.
Diamanti is now in London ahead of his move to Upton Park, and Livorno have already moved to spend the money raised from his sale.
Livorno, though, are not looking to replace striker Diamanti as they feel they are well catered for up-front, instead they have brought in central defender Nelson Rivas from Inter Milan and Mozart from Palmeiras.
“Despite losing Diamanti, Livorno still have [Cristiano] Lucarelli and [Francesco] Tavano, who guarantee many goals,” president Aldo Spinelli told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“We have plenty of strikers in our squad and will not be bringing in any more.
“Our transfer market is now closed, with Mozart and Rivas we are complete.
“Rivas is official, as he has already signed the contract and now we are just waiting for [Inter director Marco] Branca to file the paperwork.
“Rivas is very good and I can guarantee he is not the player we have seen at Inter in recent months. He’ll forge a great centre-back partnership with Diniz.”
I’m excited to see Diamanti. Under GZ he could become great. Be happy. Despite yesterday’s trouble we came back took the game. Let’s hope we keep the momentum going against Rovers
COYI!!!!!
Eleenyc, Zola says that Diamanto reminds him of DiCanio AND Himself!
That’ll do me! lol
diamanti is a new player & adds some excitement.
we need it at the moment
right, right droogs. Let’s do this!
Matt Ryan you cant be to shocked at that type of racist abuse from Milwall fans. During the altercation I had with a Wall fan in a pub in Bermondsey after our Great Escape win at the emirates he informed me that Saarf Londoners and Milwall fans in particular didnt like the Irish!
I told him I would be sure to let Kenny Cunningham, Mark Kennedy, Tony Cascarino and Stephen Reid know that.
Even his mates laughed at him over that one!
Lets do what???
Get Diamanti in, move forward, get WHU’s bright future rolling and all that….
Oh that! lol!
Ok then!
Lets do it!
Celtic, not shocked mate! Just totally disgusted! Cole is a diamond geezer and to get called a Monkey is horendous!
I like his reply though!
“I might be as strong as a gorilla, but I’m no monkey” lol
Quiet on here tonight!
Everyone is in the nick after last night.
Yeah Zola said Savio reminded him of himself as well. Thought he would of learnt his lesson the first time…
But he NEVER said he reminded him of PDC! lol
Man, Spurs are rolling over Doncaster
Yeah but that’s becasue it’s DONCASTER! Stan and Hines would have had a blinder against them!
im not sure matt ryan, you can only beat what is put out in front of you and spurs did that convincingly.
i really do think they will challenge the top 4, maybe finishing 3rd with liverpool looking so poor.
as for hines when i first saw him play he reminded me of defoe, i still think he can be as good as defoe.
Hi Rob! My colleague was at the game and he said Doncaster were woeful! And the 5-1 scoreline really wasn’t a good indication of Spurs being good tonight!
I’m not just saying this because I don’t like them but I really think they will end up 9th/10th! I just don’t think Harry has it in him anymore to get the best out of them on a regular basis!
Australian tv has shown the battle of Upton Park every half an hour it is hard to explain to people that it is not always like that.
aussie graham, I used to get that about bombings in Belfast, when I lived in Boston. even though I didnt live in Belfast or anywhere near it for that matter as I grew up on the south coast of Ireland.
You simply can not reverse some peoples ignorance and as infuriating as it is you just have to walk away.
I suppose we must only get better news Celtic, surely some fresh signings?
Lol when I lived in NY, I always told people that I was from London (even though I’m from Kent) and their igorance was amazing!
I used to get things like “Oh do you know Pete from Manchester” or “Have you met the Beatles”
lol
I keep telling myself that aussie. At least the Diamanti deal looks done. Inter were after him earlier in the summer and Mourinho rates him so thats a good sign.
Actually talking about Mourinho, I remember reading an interview with him in an in flight magazine coming back from the states after he had won chelski’s second title. He talked about the reaction he got from their fans when he arrived and wanted to start playing 4-3-3 and how opposed to it a lot of fans were.
He said that 4-4-2 is a very English formation and that because of that the players are very restricted in the roles they can play. He thinks the formation is too inflexable and that with 4-3-3 you can adapt more easily to the game but that you need very technically skilled players to be able to do it as everyone one of your 6 forward players need to be able to play in virtually every position. You also need to have defenders who can read the play ahead of them and play the ball intelligently.
If you look at the best teams in Europe they all tend to use the system and I think Zola is doing the right thing in trying to introduce it at West Ham but he needs patience from the fans.
We have to stop screaming for 4-4-2 anytime that things do not go our way. Just look at some of the football played by ManU at times last season when playing with a front 3. I do think Zola will be more flexible once the players have gotten adapt at playing 4-3-3
I actually like the 4-3-3! It gives us a little bit of exitement and variation up front!
I agree with the efforts to implement 4-3-3. Most of the best club sides are playing in this sort of formation now as it does give you more options – as long as you have the players who have the flexibility to maximise it.
The key is the ability of the two wider players in the front three to be able to alternate between the front and the midfield enabling the formation to become fluid and, when necessary pull 4, or even 5, into midfield.
Players like Arshavin at Arsenal are ideal for this formation. Is he a striker or a midfield player? Doesn’t matter what you call him. He gets up front and scores goals and also appears in the centre of the park when he needs to. If – and it appears to be a big if – Gudjohnnsen came to us, he would be a big asset in this formation with his ability to play as an out-and-out striker or deeper.
