Lets get this right we have money to spend on a striker anything we got for BEANO would be an additional amount and as for replacing him any of us could lay on the treatment table how hard is that. He’s a waste of time we should cut or losses move on.
AS for coming back to haunt us WHAT LIKE BELLEND,
IMO we need to start pre-season with an improved squad that don’t include the sicknotes ASHTON DYER and GABBIDON.
AS a team/squad we could hold our own and improve on last season without those 3 now let alone with replacments.
Stoke do a good pie as well Beano will love it up there. FAT B******

  2. Basildon Bob says:

E1, I agree, Dyer & Gabbs are players that shouldn’t be at the club. But Ashton is different. We are not going to find a player of Ashtons calibre, at his age, for the money being quoted. If the medical team feel he is able to come back and compete in the PL then why sell.

Don’t forget, There is a sell on clause in the deal with Norwich, so we don’t see all of that money in any event.

At the end of the day the management will do what is right for the club and if they feel no more can be done for Deano, then so be it.

  3. Munky says:

The thing with letting Deano go is that I can’t see anybody, not stoke, villa, spurs, even city, shell out for a player with his fitness record, without making any fee payable in stages, based on fitness/availability, etc. To do otherwise would be idiotic.

Therefore, if he is a crock we will end up get very little for him…. if we end up getting a fee for him he would have been worth keeping.

If we know 100% his career at prem level is basically over then it might be worth offloading him to save the wages… but there’s no way we will be getting a big bag of cash to sit back and watch him sit on someone else’s treatment table.

Going off topic here but can I say that I think people posting on forums claiming to have “inside” knowledge from within a club are the lowest form of internet users. I like this site because people are not affraid to offer informed opinion or even speculation without resorting to the whole, my nans, neighbours, son’s best mate from junior school knows a cabbie who had a fare to Upton Park and he found out this!
I think it is hugely unfair of people to take advantage of the desire fans have for news about this club. I know I have a tendancy to get dragged into things but as an old boss of mine once said, sometimes I like to put down a scalpel and pick up a sledgehammer to do the same job.
I guess in someways I have the prefect personality to be a Hammers fan, pure bloody mindedness and a relentless belief that in the end we shall overcome. I believe you are born a Hammers fan, you dont simply become one. You have to have a certain make up to be a Hammers fan. You have to believe in the purity of the game, you have to have faith that while you may be completely unaware of it there is a footballing grand plan and when it unfolds we will be rewarded for our efforts. We have raised a generation of great players and seen them go on to bring glory to other clubs or once to a whole country.
There is something immensely gratifying about the grudging respect other fans give for the way we play football or the players we have produced. Be honest, everyone of us puffs up a little with pride when we hear a commentator utter the words “The Academy of Football”, think of the huge clubs in Europe with storried histories full of trophy wins, league titles, European glory and mammouth stadia, there are many of those clubs but there is only one “Academy of Football”.
I guess I just feel that people who take advantage of decent fans are disrespecting the club I love.
It is a credit to Iain and the people he attracts to this site that there is none of that going on here. He even shows considerable restraint when I wander off topic or write a post that looks more like it belongs in a boardroom than a football ground. In my defense it is done to give fans like myself as much information about the club as possible if it proves useful then so be it.

Just seen this on Sky Sports.

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_5400899,00.html

If the Mancini/Balotelli deals don’t come off, could we do no worse than taking a look at Saviola (loan deal)? Another player who had a great reputation but has never seemed to pull it off on the big stages of Barca and Real. But I suppose the reason he is opting for Benfica is for European competition (assuming they are playing European football next season)

  6. Eddie Chappers says:

I think everyone has to realise that all of the ‘discussion’ revolving around Deano must take into account these two vital points:

    1. Since he was injured by SWP (impact injury nothing to do with being ‘injury prone’ as so many people incorrectly state) whilst training with England he has never fully recovered from this one single injury to his ankle- whether this be through a reoccurence of it but more plausibly the consequence of it not being treated properly or errors being made in his rehabilitation in the first place.

    2. As a result of the fact that he has never fully recovered from this, potentially until now, any value that could be apportioned to him would not give him the ‘rateable value’ that he deserves but would rather take into account the one injury that has plagued the last two years of his career.

As a result it would be folly to sell, unless as others point out, his ankle will never fully recover from the injury. However, in this case surely any stringent transfer medical would pick up such a ‘cronic’ problem in a bid for us to cut our losses. This leaves us/ him with two options, he will struggle to ever play Pro football again or he comes back and does the job we signed him for, I sincerely hope it is the latter! COYI

  7. SJ Chandos says:

E1, I don’t know if anyone has told you, but TS Elliott is dead mate! As for my neck it is fine and still intact, a bit like Ashton’s five year contract with us! lol.

No seriously, I just do not see it. It’s that catch 22 thing again. Why would Stoke City try to sign him unless his medical prognosis was good? If it is good, why would West Ham let such a talent go?

  8. E1 says:

SJ you don’t say when did he die then DOE !lol
If zola feels he excess to requirments ie don’t fit or maybe a change could give his career a kick start or Beano’s mind ain’t right or he wants to leave could be any number of reasons more I would say than there are to keep him.
At the end of it we will all see in pre-season and beyond and I hope he does well but I also we don’t live to regret giving to setiment.

  9. E1 says:

Good to see another local lad Matt Fry sign his 1st pro contract.

  10. SJ Chandos says:

1965, E1! He always wanted to contribute to Sportsmail, but could never write badly enough! lol.

Actually, that is unfair because Samuels is quite a good sports journalist, too good for Sportsmail!

I think I remember Samuels when he was a youngster, his father had a chicken stall in a street market in Canning Town. I do not go down there anymore, but his father may still have it, if I am not too mistaken?

  11. SJ Chandos says:

Mattie Fry has something about him. And he is quietly developing in the shadow of Tomkins and Spence. Natural left footers are at a premium and the ability to cover central defence and left-back equally well is highly valued.

I hope he eventually makes the left-back spot his own. I have seen him play for the reserves and he is a ball playing, technically accomplished defender, in the classic West Ham mode. I think he could have a excellent career. And he is a Hammer through and through, as well, which is the cherry on the cake really!

Celtic Hammer, I always enjoy reading your posts. In particular, you bring financial and business information that many of us do not have easy access to. It is very much valued, so please keep them coming.

  12. SJ Chandos says:

It is also interesting to read that Fry had such a serious knee injury at 14 and completely recovered from it.

He was out for a whole season and undertook all the gruelling rehabiitation work, not easy for a youngster! It shows both dedication and a tought mentality, which will undoubtedly help him in his future career.

  13. kingy says:

celtichammer regards your comments 11.10, I couldn’t agree with you more. I do in fact have an unimpeachable source at west ham, who i am happy to reveal to anyone in the boyleyn before any home match. He phoned me at 10.45 from the training ground the friday that the Bellamy leaving story boke. Strait from the horses mouth (pun intended) Bellamy told him he was leaving and going to spurs. at that point if i could have got a bet on i would have lost my house.
It just proves that even the players don’t know whats going on
I would be gutted if Deano left, but i am led to belive although he is reaching full fitness, both injuries are related to the technique he uses by placing his weight when turning. Like all of us you cant change the way you walk at such a late stage in growing.
So the fear is that he could breakdown at any time.
Personally i would take the chance but back it up with an additional striker on loan.

  14. “It’s absolute nonsense,” he told BBC Radio Stoke.

“I have have not said we are in talks with West Ham. We are a million miles from doing anything with Dean Ashton and probably won’t.”

    thats better…its in quotes !!!

  15. chris says:

Seems Neil(super snail) is staying after all,I think he’s options are limited, but glad he’s staying he had quite a good season.Had he’s best game at centre half.
Fingers crossed Mancini deal comes off!

  16. Roymondo says:

Even if Ashton stays – and I reckon he will – we still need another out and out striker (or even two). If he goes it just leaves Carlton Cole with a whole bundle of attacking midfielders (Jiminez, Dyer, Stanislas, Boa Morte etc.). Injury or suspension to Cole would leave us in the same boat as towards the end of last season with a lack of goals, even though we had two “strikers” then (the much lamented DDM & Tristan).

  17. chris says:

Roymondo I agree,We still need another Forward to hold the ball if we are going to play this system… Not popular with everyone but K davis would be Ideal.

  18. Eddie Chappers says:

I would prefer Caicedo to Davies but there is no chance we could prise Davies off Bolton for any sort of reasonable amount after they stated there is no chance they will sell him.

  19. E1 says:

Charlton’s wonder kid Jonjo Shelvey looks like he is going to Chelsea even though he came out in public saying that he wanted to join WEST HAM.
Any body know if we were infact interested or are for that matter.

  20. Hammers & Zvezda says:

Please…no, no, no, no no…..don’t tell me Neil is staying!

  21. E1 says:

Tony Brookes has signed his first contract !!
Looking good for the future with Fry signing up as well, who needs to buy ? lol

  22. djclipz says:

are there any other players on twitter??

  23. SJ Chandos says:

We are being linked with a move for Lyons striker, Kader Keita.

This might be way of moving Faubert on. Identify a quality player with a French club and offer him in part of full exchange! I reckon Lyon would take Faubert based on his former reputation in the French League.

  24. E1 says:

Just Think In 3 or 4 years our back 4 could read like this

    Brookes Tomkins Spence Fry

Now that I would really like to see
and a home grown mid field with
    noble collison stanislas in it.

  25. Hi, I concur. Unfortunately giving a red or even yellow for theatrics will be very hard to enforce. There are some flagrant cases obvious to the viewer at home but it is hard for the referee to tell if a tumble is genuine or not without the benefit of instant replay. Imagine the double injury of taking a genuine tumble and then being awarded a red card for your pain. I think this is why most referees are loathe to apply even the currently prescribed yellow card, except they directly witness a violation, something which isn’t always possible with all the activity on the field.
