He’d forego the huge salary, Kia wouldn’t worry about the fee too much and we’d be guaranteed a fourth place finish.

IoDHammer, yes I totally agree, we need to recruit top class players to supplement and help develop our youngsters.
If you remember, the big mistake of the Terry Brown regime was not doing that. It put too much strain on the youngsters too early, who remembers Defoe struggling bravely alone up front for most of the season in 2002/03. That was a prime factor in our relegation that year.
Roader wanted Upson from Arsenal for £1m and the board would not sanction the deal. Madness!
As for this summer, so far, the main transfer movement involves Man City. The West Ham deals will come, I am confident of that.

Hey what’s all this talk of being old at 37????? I turned 58 on Sunday, have been a supporter since ’62, saw all the greats of the 70s and 80s, but since then living abroad have rarely been to UP. Point is, I’ve got a new job (teaching at a university), and a new baby, and the message is, stay young guys!

First Cole, he was never TOO bad but was close, always had faith that he would turn around.
Boa Morte, was very very poor at times but again i felt a small minute possibility of a miracle turn around.
But not once have i ever thought Faubert was anything like a professional footballer. Hes beyond redemption.

I personally think Tomkins is a better defender at this stage of his career than Rio was. There are no lapses of concentration or major gaffes with Tomkins.
Rio only really eradicated that from his game after he left us.
If Spence is even bettter than Tomkins then we are very lucky indeed!
