In Memory of Jeroen Boere

Readers may remember that in August 2007, I had the sad task of posting about the death of former Hammers striker Jeroen Boere. I thought you’d like to know that his wife Ann has posted on the thread. Here’s what she said…

This is the first time I have seen these comments even after looking in site every week for the last 19 months. Thank you to everyone for all the kind words and support following Jeroen’s death. Regards to all, Ann Boere (Jeroen’s wife)

I have emailed Ann to tell her I am posting her words here, so do feel free to add an appreciation of Jeroen in the comments. I am sure she will take great comfort from your words.

Well i’ve only started supporting Westham late last year, so honestly off the bat i can say i don’t know who Jeroen is. But he seems like a true Hammer if his wife is still dedicated and caring about the club. It was very gracious of you to post here with regards to the members here Ann, and for that I (and we) thank you. I wish you the best for now and the future.

A man who’s life echoed his west ham career… for me, both were far too short lived. A tragic loss of life at 39 years young, I hope he’s found sanctuary with the footballing academia in the sky.

Anne, good luck to you and your family for the future.. JB, RIP.

RIP and best wishes to Jeroen’s family.

I will always remember Jeroen’s best game in a Hammers shirt, versus Leeds Utd at Elland Road. When he came on as a substitute we were losing 2-0 and the three points were as good as gone. However, a display of awesome ariel power saw two towering headers earn us a very unlikely 2-2 draw.

A fanastic performance from a centre forward who was as good in the air as anyone I have seen. Us Hammers fans rally partied on the way home after that match, courtsey of Jeroen Boere. Thank you for the great memory.

Iain, with your new video capacity on this site, it would be a fitting tribute to Jeroen to post some clips of his West Ham goals. I do not know if it is possible, but it is just a thought.

    Hi Ann
I never saw Jereon play in real life, living here in Johannesburg, but I saw him often on TV – a real grafter, who gave everything – surely, one of the best qualities in life is to have given one’s best every time. He seemed just that type of person.

    God Bless
