Two Hammers in England Top 3 Heroes

The Daily Mail has been running a series on the Top 50 England Heroes of all time.

Guess which team has two players in the top 3? No prizes for guessing their identities…

    Upson & Cole??? lol,
Well done to Bobby Moore & Geoff Hurst, we`ll have a two or three more Westham players in the next world cup winning team too!!!

If we do they’ll be injured in the warm up!

No more than one would expect of the World cup winning players who were the the England squad’s two most valuable players. Bobby Moore the leader and architect of the victory and Geoff Hurst, the hatrick hero! Cometh the hour, cometh the men in claret and blue. And lts not forget the other goal, scored by team mate Martin Peters, although he blotted his copy book later in his career, with a misguided certain move to north London!!!!!

The final was Bobby Moore’s greatest offensive display in my opinion. His impact in the opposition half was massive. The goals had ‘made in Chadwell Heath, by appointment of Ron Greenwood’ stamped through them.

They should show a DVD of that final to all players in the club’s Academy to show them the greatest Hammers and that which they should aspire to equal.

By the way who was the other player in the top three England legends? Was it David Beckham by any chance? What no Beckham? How can that be, the most capped outfield player not in the top three England legend? Perhaps that says something about him and his so called record!

There are some other dodgy ones in the top ten as well. No one would argue with Moore, Charlton, Hurst, Banks and Ramsey. However, Butcher, Bryan Robson (not our Pop, the other one), Gascoigne and Lineker raise a smile. What is the division here, apart from obviously quality? Its winners in the former cases and losers in the latter cases!

Which camp are the 2010 squad going to join? I have a good idea, but I would hate to be called unpatriotic or defeatist! Make sure that there are at least 3 Hammers in the team and we might just do it! lol.

Martin Peters is a Tottenham fan, always has been and always will be.

  6. Steve says:

Hold on, isn’t it 3 in the top 10. I thought Shilton turned ou for us for a few games.

2 things you cant get away with.
    Drink driving.
Playing a game of football with a groin injury.

  8. Hammers & Zvezda says:

No other club can match that…..how many Shef. Utd. players made the list. Hope they f up the playoffs!

  9. Goatygav says:

    Quite right too!

    COME ON YOU IRONS!!!!

  10. SwedeHammer says:

    Ian,
Ever thought of advertisement in shape of t-shirts and/or stickers?

I can think of many different styles that would sell with West Ham ’till I die. As a Hammer and a fan of your blog, I think there is a market.

    1 word: Legends

When it comes to stating the ‘bleeding obvious’ there is no better than the daily mail.

  13. SJ Chandos says:

The Evening standard is reporting that both Parker and Kovac are doubtful for the Sunderland match!! Parker has a niggling groin injury that he has been playing with, which has now worsened. Kovac took a knock playing for the Czech Republic in the week. The team selection should be interesting if this is true!

  14. SJ Chandos says:

Is Kieron Dyer fit to complete a full 90 minutes yet? We really do need him in the line up, but not at the ultimate cost of him breaking down and missing the rest of the season.

I reckon Zola will aim to give Dyer 45 mins, whether that is from the start or coming on from the bench. If Parker and Kovac are out then Noble will have to anchor midfield. If Dyer does not start, Payne might get a start as his central midfield partner, with Stanislaus on the right and Boa Morte on the left. Lopez should be the mix as well, probably on the bench. I am not sure if Nsereko is fit yet?

Tristan will proabably start up front, with Di Michele. Lets hope Di Michele has one of his better games, more Hull City than WBA! Personally I would prefer Sears starting, with Hines and/or Banijer on the bench.

The only part of the team that is stable is the defence, with Collins now fit. Personally I would stick with Tomkins, as we will need his pace and mobility against Cisse. Although I guess the trade off is Collins’ greater experience.

  15. SJ Chandos says:

Apparently, Anton Ferdinand has stated that he needed to leave West Ham in the summer! Yeah, it works for us too Anton! Still, lets give him a good reception tomorrow, he did his best for us and £8m for a centre half with his shortcomings was very good business by the club!

Same goes for McCartney. He always did his best for us, especially during the great escape. Buying him for £1m and selling him back for £4m was great business!

  16. SJ Chandos says:

This is a great opportunity for the youngsters, they need to take it! Stanislaus, Banijer, Hines and Payne are ready and can step up to the plate. Similarly, players like Lopez and Boa Morte need to show their worth. Tristan and Di Michele also need to prove that they have a future at the club.

Lets hope that Zola and Clarke have got great motivational skills. They need them right now!

  17. Roymondo says:

According to the BBC, Parker and Kovac are carrying knocks but both could play. I believe that Savio is fit as someone mentioned to me that he played 80 minutes for Germany U21s last weekend.
We need to be aware of Keiron Richardson. Lucas Neill will always be likely to give away a free kick against him around the edge of the box and that could be dangerous as both him and Andy Reid are pretty handy at dead ball situations. We’ve been done too many times recently from free kicks.

  18. Mark from Kildare says:

All the injuries are very worrying, Parker and Kovac missing too could leave us very stretched and understrength. Still a chance for the youngsters to show the manager they are ready.

Iain if you are going today you might want to bring your boots just in case, unless you are lording it in the directors box!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Dujon says:

I read on the EPL match preview for this game, and Hines nor Banjer were included. I hope that’s wrong though.
