This afternoon’s match has taken on far more importance than anyone would have predicted a month ago. Having taken only one point in 18 West Ham know that they are on a very dangerous slide. I have to admit that due to work commitments I haven’t seen them play since mid September, but by all accounts we have played good, attacking football with scant reward. We also have to learn to play 90 minutes, rather than 70.
There will undoubtedly be a few changes made today in the lineup. Valon Behrami is back in contention after a few weeks out and Carlton Cole’s suspension should see him restored to the attack.
I expect the lineup to be Green, Ilunga, Neill, Upson, Collins, Etherington, Parker, Bowyer, Behrami, Cole, Bellamy. However, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Sears and Collison retain their places at the expense of Etherington and Bowyer.
It’s a good time to play Portsmouth as they try to find their feet under Tony Adams. Let’s hope we play good, attacking football, but make sure that we defend when we need to. That’s why I think it would be best to play Bowyer and Parker together in midfield. If we can control midfield we can control the game. We only ever seem to come apart when the midfield duo can’t get into the game.

collison has to start, he’s been excellent against man u middlesboro and everton, bowyer hasnt played well for us since the opening day of the season against charlton 2 years ago

Disagree about Bowyer, don’t think he offers much now. I’d keep Jack in for sure.
I’d keep Freddie as well in place of Cole. When he gets his first I think he won’t stop.

Personally, I would bring Tomka in for Collins (at fault again last week) and play Behrami in front of Neill.
I still like the Bellers/sears partnership and would leave Cole on the bench for leter. Hopefully, Zola should replace parker when he has run his legs off.

Zola has to realise we havent got the players to play 4-3-3. Bellamy is a centre forward who should be playing off a target man, not picking the ball up in the right midfield position and trying to influence the play from there. Cole is shocking in front of goal but his hold up play is good and if they just played the traditional 4-4-2 i think we would see better results and more goals. Collins was superb today and since he came back has really added some quality to the back. Lucas neil has to have a run on the bench for a captain he was appalling. give scotty parker the armband and put behrami right back. RANT OVER
Have to agree with you John, we should play 4-4-2 , atleast until Zola has players of his choice he can bring in. I can see what he is trying to do, but it won’t work with what he has got available. Spot on John.
Zola is inexperienced. His inexperience shows as the above comments prove, get shot of smiling midget while it isn’t too late!
