Jeroen Boere RIP

Former West Ham United striker Jeroen Boere died in his house in Spain on Thursday, Dutch radio station RTV Rijnmond said on Saturday.

Jereon Boere has died at the very young age of 39-year-old. He retired from football in 1999 when he lost an eye after being stabbed in Japan, and had been working in Spain as real estate agent.

Early reports said he was found dead at home, but it is also rumoured that he died in a car crash.

Boere started his professional career at Excelsior Rotterdam before joining West Ham in 1993. He also played for Portsmouth, West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace and Southend United. He made 18 appearances for the Hammers, plus another eleven as sub. He scored seven goals.

What shockingly young age to die. He will be remembered fondly by all those who saw him play.

39 is no age to die, whoever he/she might be and I hope that he is remembered in Saturdays programme if it hasn’t gone to print.

Perhaps McCabe should remember that this is just a game that we follow, and that it is played by mere mortals trying to earn a living, albeit a good one. People talk about the greed of the Premiership but nothing comes close to the greed shown by Sheff Utd.

RIP Jeroen and the thoughts of all at West Ham and the other clubs that you played for will be with you at kick off on Saturday
